Is liberty the right to do what one deserves, with LL> restrictions? Is liberty something else altogether? That's a very good question. From Oxford Languages: noun:˙liberty 1. the state of being free within society from oppressive restrictions imposed by authority on one's way of life, behavior, or political views. This, I think is a good start. Along with that definition, I would add that "free from oppressive restrictions" in society is not the same as free to do whatever you want. You can't kill someone just because. Neither would me walking up to you and punching you in the face be an example of liberty. Liberty of behavior, which those examples above are not, would be, for example the often used example here in the USA of the bakers who declined to make a wedding cake for a homosexual couple because their religious views didn't agree with the homosexual lifestyle. Another example of liberty of behavior would be for those who disagree with the bakers to boycott the bakers shop and give their business elsewhere to someone who doesn't hold that view. For that matter, being able to have a relationship with whomever you wish, regardless of gender or ethnic background without government denying you such pursuit is liberty.
