One of the departments my wife works on for volunteer fire recommended them as a more cost efficient radio instead of a Motorola, so we bought the HT's. A few years later I got interested in HAM, so we both got our tickets, and I bought TYT-7800's for both pickups. People assume they are junk because they are "Japanese knock offs of Yaeseu" but really what they are are great radios for the money and which I have NO problems out of at all!
