The use cases I can see for this feature would be:

(1) when a user doesn't want to read messages from a certain poster (i.e. a
user that does not run a BBS);
(2) I as a sysop might want to skip messages from a certain poster but
don't want to prevent the same posts from being seen/read by others.

It is easy enough just to skip them, of course.  :)
