Well those are concepts, but I guess you are asking about the real
implementations.
Eg Pretty Good Privacy (PGP) and the GNU reimplementation if it called the GNU
Privacy Guard (GPG).

Those are encryption programs that you can use to encrypt messages and files,
so that they are basically impossible to decode by brute force.

If I write a message to you I can encrypt it with your public key, so that only
 people with your private key can read it.

It is also possible to sign, meaning that you can be sure that the message is
by me and that it has not been altered, but it is freely readable by anyone.
