Yeah. On that note, it's a bit different in Germany, since you're expected to bag your own items and/or do something to get out of the way.

But I _know_ I carry it too far, or at least _way_ more than other people. But really only gets problematic when people start talking to me in German while I'm attempting to get out of the way.

Though, thankfully, most of the time my German is enough for those interactions.

Oh, and I _prefer_ the "bag your own" method. Since I bring my own bags for everything, and oftentimes my needs are different.

Yeah. I guess there's a bit of a difference between talking about automation in our lives and automation as a societal thing, but, yeah, keeping it kind is kind of the point.

I suppose it could be a DVD thing, but I think you might be running up against the lack of cinema movie releases, too. Hard to update the end cap if nothing is available for release.

Though, yeah, if they release directly to Netflix, it _also_ makes it problematic.

But I realize that I don't want to own DVDs. I just want access to movies. I would happily stream everything, but copyright law makes, "Oh, I want to watch x movie that I heard about" way more challenging, and DVD rentals are a good workaround.

Ah, yeah, that _does_ seem like it could be a problem.

Though I'm also a person who watches everything with subtitles.

Mind you, _German_ subtitles, but still.

This also reminds me about my annoyance with some streaming stuff here. E.g., I had Amazon Prime for a month, and there are movies that are dubbed from English, and the stream is only available in German, with no subtitles.

Netflix is better about that, though.

Nah, they just announced that they'd be ending in September. And I guess another poster here pointed out that Redbox tried to buy them, but Netflix had no interest.

I know the quality of their catalog had been going down for a while (they weren't buying as much stuff, and such a catalog naturally decays over time, as things physically wear out), but the quality of their catalog was still _far_ beyond any streaming service.

At least that's one thing you never have to worry about with a streaming service.

I feel like I _should_ miss them, but I'm not sure I ever had a membership at any of those places. Too young, maybe.
