Rather affordable these days.  We spend very little on food versus the cost of eggs, and we do eat quite a few.  With all of the baking my wife does, combined with breakfast and other recipes, we haven't been overwhelmed *yet* with eggs.  If so we will for sure be water bathing  what we can, the rest we'll be giving to neighbors (or selling, if they insist). The tinfoil hat in me would rather eat eggs then bugs .. so there's that too ;)

If you saw my neighborhood you'd be asking me how I plan to "off" the birds when they're too old.  I'd have the police at my house for holding animal sacrifice rituals (or so my neighbors would think, as chance the birds with a hatchet, in the middle of the suburbs :)   Fortunately my brother lives in rural America, while we also know a few crazy chicken ladies.
