DOH moment...

After the previous message, I was taking part in a video conference
yesterday.  While I had a standard USB camera functioning, I decided to try
the same dongle back in the windows box.

It sees the device... black image.. uh... turned out to be a simple fix,
nothing to do with the capture device but the camera end. It's got a
mini-hdmi to hdmi adapter in it, and had the cable hanging out the end of
that.  Poking around with the camera got me intermittant images, and
ultimately just needed strain relief on the lead to stop the adaptor getting
pulled out of the camera.
