I would not expect apple to be any less "commercial" than a google
device, but I have never interacted with one of their mini speakers so I
don't know.
 
My mother has got into the habit of keeping her Alexa disconnected unless
she wants to use it.  I cannot remember the exact details, but it was
apparently speaking without being spoken to, at times.
