Yup.  Plus having teachers who have spent some time in the corporate world
would have been very helpful.  I don't think I've ever had a teacher that
hadn't spent his whole career in academia.

It takes time to build up that base of knowledge that you need to "get" the
rest of it.

My dad taught 8th grade science, so I was exposed to that at a very early age.
That laid the base for me when he bought home a TRS-80 Model I for the summer.
