I'm of the opinion that they emulate the old failed Winmodems of the late 90s, but you'll need to look up how to wire your radio to it. You can find great used TNCs for around $25.00USD which is super cheap at flea markets and on eBay. To access a bbs like this one, you'll want node software that can act as a gateway for it.
