The last great innovation for BBS'ing was BinkD, which simplified a part of
the transport layer / infrastructure of moving mail packets. Everyone adopted
it as there was a need for it. That was 20 years ago. Since then... really
nothing... maybe we can only go so far, the amps can only go to eleven, etc.

It could be argued that Mystic and Synchronet drove a recent new wave of BBS
nostalgia/interest. I'm not really a fan of either software but totally 
respect that it gets someone excited to put a board up again.
