Cron should normally mail the user the standard output and the standard
error. But that requires a Mail Transfer Agent (MTA) like sendmail
preinstalled ... this is normally done by the default installation of most
systems.

On debian for example the MTA called EXIM is installed and any cron jobs
(including 'at' commands) are mailed to the user.You will of course need
mail(1) from mailutils or bsd-mailx in order to view which I don't think
debian installs by default.
