I'm in the process of getting my BBS set up right now, and I put together a bit
I called "what's this place all about" which made these two points, and my
reasoning followed yours pretty closely.

I'm glad I found this place and the software you've worked so hard on.

For me BBSes were as you said a wonderful mysterious arcane world that no one
else knew about, and they still are!  It was also a great social outlet for a
shy and awkward teenager... I am not QUITE so much those things anymore
(teenager least of all) but I do still socialize quite a bit over the computer.

I'm hoping I'm able to cobble together a small userbase that gets me some
feeling of the brotherhood we had back in the day, but we'll see.  If it ends
up being more like the FidoNet point system I ran for a couple years, I suppose
that's OK too.  At least I'll have a place to blather away from the prying eyes
of Google.
