I also have a RD-5R from Baofang.
It is also quit OK ... (do not confuse with DM-5R that does not support DMR 
Tier II and hence is useless)

No.
They are using RF transmitters.
(just like my MMDVM HS_Duplex_Hat just with more power ;)
