I read up on it. Yeah, they killed off E4X earlier this year. I don't know how
useful it is, but there is/was another project that provides an XML parser and
supports DOM. http://xmljs.sourceforge.net/ is the url. You might want to take
a look and see what you think. It hasn't been updated sine 2011, but it might
be promising.
