Quest for minimalism I feel the urge of minimalism, both in my belongings as my habits. While I've always appreciated the minimalism in computing, I never seriously explored the idea of extending the same principles to my lifestyle. I've been following a podcast on the topic, realising that this is a wonderful idea! The bad news is that meditating on it made it clear that I've got too much stuff, (of course!) and that I should get rid of many pointless objects cumulated over time. The good news is that my current state is not so bad: once I get rid of the cruft, I'm very unlikely to pile it up again, since ...well, I just don't care of things. E.g. I never felt the urge of buying a new pair of shoes, if the one I've got is not worn off. The only serious obstacles in my way, as in the way of many others, are the sentimental value of certain objects, and the idea of wasting material that is not useful right now, but that might be possibly useful in the future. A good advice I've obtained from the podcast is that most "possibly useful in future" things can be sold, given away, or just properly recycled. If there's no other way than wasting them, may the painful experience be inspirational, to avoid future pointless purchases.
