20 February 1943 - THE FIRST OF ROCKWELL'S 'FOUR FREEDOMS' IS PUBLISHED:
Inspired by President Franklin Roosevelt’s 1941 State of the Union
speech, artist Norman Rockwell creates four iconic scenes of
mid-20th-century American values. All will appear in The Saturday
Evening Post.

The Four Freedoms is a series of four oil paintings made in 1943 by the
American artist Norman Rockwell. The paintings-Freedom of Speech,
Freedom of Worship, Freedom from Want, and Freedom from Fear-are each
approximately 45.75" X 35.5" (116.2 X 90.2 cm), and are now in the
Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge, Massachusetts. The four freedoms
refer to President Franklin D. Roosevelt's January 1941 Four Freedoms
State of the Union address.

      Title: Norman Rockwell's Oatmeal Cookies
 Categories: Cookies, Snacks, Grains, Nuts
      Yield: 12 Cookies
 
    1/4 lb Butter
      1 c  Light brown sugar
    1/2 c  Granulated sugar
      1 ts Vanilla
    1/4 c  Water
      2 lg Eggs; well beaten
      1 ts Salt
      1 c  A-P flour; sifted
    1/2 ts Baking soda
      1 c  Oatmeal
           Chopped nuts; walnuts pref
 
  Mix in order and drop on baking sheet.
  
  Bake @ 400ºF/205ºC 7 to 8 minutes.
  
  Then run under broiler to brown.
