18th of August 2022 <-----------------------------------------------------------------> Sometimes it's hard for me to decide which software I want to use for a specific task: Some time ago I distrohopped three times a week and changed my desktop environment with a unhealthy obsession. Then I wanted to stop it, which wasn't that easy.. For now I settled on Void GNU/Linux with the lovely Xfce desktop environment. Oh it would be great if it was that easy -- but it just isn't. For example, I can not decide between gemini and gopher. But there is another decision to make, when you want to write on a GNU/Linux system: What text editor to use. Recently I tried to familiarize myself with emacs and vim -- those are great programs but I really don't need functionality for everything and anything -- I just want to write some stuff after all. And while it seems as I have to write some texts with Libreoffice, simple texteditors are still great for blogging, phlogging and gemlogging. Right now I'm using the GNU nano -- sure, laugh at me for this from your emacs or vim installation, but nano seems to be exactly the editor I really need. It is not overcomplicated, it does not have thousands of functions and it isn't an IDE. But that is what I like about it. This is brilliant -- but I like this! | | vim/emacs nano But hey, at least I'm not using gedit. ;) <-----------------------------------------------------------------> By the way, here are some usefull flags for nano: -S --> soft-wrapping long lines while not creating new ones --> useful for gemini -b --> hard-wrapping long lines (creating new ones in the size of the terminal) --> useful for gopher -l --> line numbers <----------------------------------------------------------------->
