I think the infrastructure is nearly as robust as the Bell system was. Down
here in hurricane country, I've never noticed the area to be without internet
service. I'm pretty sure they have multiple redundant backup power systems.

Interesting sidenote, Spectrum Cable yanks the onboard batteries out of the
modems with builtin voip. They told my mom it was so that the equipment
would have the opportunity to be occasionally rebooted or something. It's
the stupidest thing; I wonder if they just made a deal for discounted modems
w/o batteries.

In any event, I purchase the biggest UPS available at Office Depot, and
dedicate it to the home network, plus one LED light. I keep a smaller one
at my desktop. At least, I did -- T.S. Harvey took those. But, I would
get nearly four hours total uptime on cable, before switching to notebook
power plus 4G internet. Basically a full day of battery power for working,
if I needed it, and used it wisely.
