Police were alerted to the incident on Great South Rd in Papatoetoe at about 10pm. "The driver of the car left the scene immediately following the collision," a police spokesperson said. "A car believed to be involved was subsequently located, and enquiries are ongoing to identify the driver." A woman who lives nearby said her family called the ambulance while her neighbours called the police. "They were bleeding," she said. The woman, who didn't want to be interviewed on camera, said the victim was hurled into the air.
