Subj : NZ Post to end rural parcel, newspaper deliveries on Saturdays To : All From : News Person Date : Mon Apr 08 2024 01:29 pm NZ Post will no longer deliver newspapers and parcels to most rural areas of the country on Saturdays from June this year. From June 29, there will no longer be newspaper and parcel deliveries to rural addresses on Saturdays across most of rural New Zealand, apart from 17 rural delivery runs that would be phased out by June 2025. Chief operating officer Brendon Main said services to rural areas on Saturdays are "not commercially viable". "We deliver very low volumes of items on these days, and it costs us more to deliver on Saturdays than we earn from the products we deliver." Impacted customers could expect a written notification about the change from NZ Post and newspaper subscribers were advised to contact their service, he said. Rural customers who hold PO Boxes and receive deliveries through the NZ Post Box Lobby service would also be affected and would receive a letter. Main said NZ Post was "going through a period of transformation" and responding to declining mail volumes and growth in e-commerce while working toward commercial sustainability without government funding. "We need to make some hard decisions about our future and the services we offer as we evolve to meet the needs of New Zealanders. "We are continuing to invest in growing an unmatched delivery business, while managing a transition to a commercially sustainable mail delivery service as we move toward a single network for mail and courier delivery as announced on 26 March 2024." --- Mystic BBS v1.12 A44 2020/02/04 (Windows/64) * Origin: S.W.A.T.S BBS Telnet swatsbbs.ddns.net:2323 (63:10/102) .
