Subj : Looking for a lifestyle change? This cinema could be yours To : All From : News Person Date : Mon Apr 08 2024 01:34 pm A cinema nestled within one of the country's most well-preserved and tranquil environments is seeking a new owner. Located on Stewart Island, the country's southern-most cinema seats 53 and comes with a bar and restaurant space attached, right in the centre of town. Gavin Ferguson told Breakfast he'd owned the cinema for the last 25 years, but since moving to Dunedin it's "time to pass it on". "I just wanted to make Stewart Island a better place," he said. The "quite intimate and quite good" theatre has been up for sale for five years, with no takers so far. "I've had [interest] from Australia and around New Zealand but nothing too serious," he said. He said it would be ideally suited to someone who wanted to move to the island "looking for a lifestyle change". Ferguson is asking for around $1.2 million for the unique space. "When you're looking at the price of things in Auckland, I know it's not in Auckland, but it's pretty reasonable," he laughed. He said the venue used to be run by Bunkhouse theatre and mainly deals with the 30,000 - 40,000 people who arrive during the tourist season. Nearly 40,000 visitors went to the island during the 2022-23 financial year to March 31. --- Mystic BBS v1.12 A44 2020/02/04 (Windows/64) * Origin: S.W.A.T.S BBS Telnet swatsbbs.ddns.net:2323 (63:10/102) .
