Police are investigating after a man's body was found on a Mount Maunganui
beach following a burglary.


Police discovered the body on the shoreline around 5am. Officers were in the
area as they were investigating a burglary at a Surf Rd building site.

The burglary had been reported about an hour earlier and saw three suspects
flee on foot.


"While two were located and arrested, a third offender ran into the sea where
police lost sight of him," a spokesperson said.


"A shoreline search was conducted and about 5am the man was found on the
shoreline.


"Sadly, he was unable to be revived."


Police said inquiries are ongoing and further details will be released when
they are available.
