Subj : Luxon won't bring up jailed Kiwi brothers with Thai PM To : All From : News Date : Wed Apr 17 2024 12:50 pm Prime Minister Christopher Luxon will not be raising the case of two Kiwi brothers imprisoned in Thailand when he holds a bilateral meeting with his Thai counterpart Srettha Thavisin in Bangkok today. Hamish and Oscar Day were arrested in Phuket last month while on holiday after getting into a scuffle with a police officer and taking his gun off him. Thai police said the brothers were speeding on their motorbikes and failed to stop. Police said they first tried to bribe the officer and then assaulted him. The brothers face charges of robbery, bribery, obstructing the police, physically attacking a policeman and driving without a licence. If found guilty, they potentially face lengthy prison sentences. However, part of the incident was caught on camera by bystanders and, in that video, one of the brothers can be heard saying it was the police officer who attacked them. While political leaders do on occasion raise criminal cases affecting their citizens with their counterparts, the prime minister's office told 1News that, because this case is still before the Thai judiciary, Luxon will not be bringing it up. --- Mystic BBS v1.12 A44 2020/02/04 (Windows/64) * Origin: S.W.A.T.S BBS Telnet swatsbbs.ddns.net:2323 (63:10/102) .
