Northbound lanes on an Auckland motorway have been blocked for hours, with
long detours for some travellers on State Highway 20 this morning.


The closure, which has been in place since 6am, was attributed to a fallen
tree and a large slip between the Neilson St off-ramp and Hillsborough Rd
on-ramp.


"Please follow the detour and allow extra time for your journey," NZTA said
in a tweet.


The multi-hour closure forced motorway traffic onto local streets around
Onehunga.

In a separate incident, emergency services cleared a crash that earlier
blocked the Neilson St off-ramp. However, the detour remains.


Bus lines 38 and 309 are experiencing delays, according to Auckland Transport.

"Expect some delays on bus routes 38 and 309 until the road is cleared.


"A fallen tree has closed State Highway 20 northbound between Neilson St and
Hillsborough Rd on-ramp."

Live traffic monitors indicated heavy traffic on approach to the remaining
open off-ramp, with long detours recommended for drivers heading north.
