Subj : Arrest after alleged indecent assaults on women aboard Akl buses To : All From : News Date : Fri Jun 14 2024 02:02 pm By 1News Reporters 12:33pm An Auckland man has been arrested after a series of alleged indecent assaults on women aboard an Auckland bus route. Police said the incidents were reported on bus route 70, which runs between Botany and Britomart. "Police have been working to piece together these reports, which were identified as taking place on the same bus route," Detective Senior Sergeant Dean Batey said. "We have been reviewing CCTV footage and worked with other units within Police." As a result of the investigation, a 51-year-old man from Clover Park was found and arrested earlier this week. He is facing three charges of indecent assault and is due to reappear in the Manukau District Court today. The three charges are related to alleged incidents on November 9, 2023, when he boarded in the city, on March 8, 2024, when he boarded in Panmure, and on May 21, 2024, after boarding in Pakuranga. The man is currently remanded in custody. The police investigation remains ongoing, and further charges aren't being ruled out. "I would like to acknowledge the three women who reported what had happened to them so that Police could investigate," Batey said. "Anyone commuting or using public transport should be able to do so safely and not be subjected to the behaviour experienced in these cases. "I hope this arrest brings some reassurance to people commuting on this route." Batey said police cannot rule out further charges being laid. Investigators are asking anyone who might have information on the alleged incidents to call 105. --- Mystic BBS v1.12 A44 2020/02/04 (Windows/64) * Origin: S.W.A.T.S BBS Telnet swatsbbs.ddns.net:2323 (63:10/102) .
