I don't think there's only a single 'correct' solution, it's interesting to get some new ideas. d> I'd also happily consider spinning up another network d> with more relaxed rules (assuming you cant control who d> comes in from the gated side) - but then it might not be d> appealling due to spam, or those who just join forums to d> spew abuse? For an echomail<>mastodon system I think you're right and spinning up another network could be a good solution. Another option may be to create some "unofficial" echoes that sysops can opt into that aren't really part of fsxNet but can be distributed using the same node numbers. I am not sure how the mastodon -> echomail gateway would work - how to decide which mastodon posts end up in which echo, for example. Maybe based on hashtags? Personally, I have a mastodon account and I view only posts from accounts that I follow - giving me a curated timeline of posts. I'd like a way to view and interact with those posts from the BBS. I'm not sure how that would work, aside from implementing a mastodon client on the BBS side that I can provide my login credentials to. d> My motivation to do this, will be from the coding side d> of making it happen, but I probably wouldnt be a d> messenger - so unless there is an interest, it'll be on d> the bottom of my "what should I do next" list :) That's fair! I am interested in both ends of it (the coding and reading/posting). Mostly right now I am interested in tossing around ideas of how to implement this kind of gateway - I think it's an interesting challenge to integrate these systems and there may be different approaches that I wouldn't consider on my own. Besides echomail gateway, a Mastodon BBS Door is on my mind right now, but that has its own downsides. (probably more development work to write the full BBS door/Mastodon client than to gate to echomail, and doors tend to be less integrated with the rest of the BBS) Fun to consider different ideas, at least!
