my take is that if you have the archiver installed, and defined with the 
correct syntax in Mystic config > editors > archive editor  .. and you then 
define the extension used in the echomail node 'archive type' field Mystic 
should play along and attempt that compression / decompression for the packets 
it's handling for that echomail node.

g00r00 has for the most part left those default settings in the archives 
untouched for some time, there were a few minor tweaks to ZIP from memory..and 
more recently additions to handle text files but that's been about it.

Fair to say most folks use either ZIP/UNZIP or uncompressed raw packets these 
days but there's nothing to stop you using another compression tool so long and 
sender and receiver have it installed and things are configured correctly 
between both systems.
