Not too long ago there was someone who had a build a cell phone kit.  They
originally came up with the idea just to see if they could build one for
themselves and then started offering the instructions (and most of the
parts) as a kit.

IIRC, it had a rotary dial on it!  It used an SBC or or some other small
project board as its base.

I filed it away somewhere under things I would like to try someday but I am
not sure where that info is now.  :)
