That is too bad, because I think such projects are very interesting.

One thing civ is sorely missing is the capability of building complex comm tech 
with limited means. It would make the population less dependand on Tech Giants.

There are Apocalypse operating systems designed for working in a Mad Max 
scenatio in which the only microprocessor you can source is the one your pocket 
calculator has
inside. I think it'd be cool if we had open hardware designs that could be 
implemented with common tools just in case you needed to put a computer 
together without
reliying in Big Tech. Like that Macroprocessor that they made at some 
University.
