I rewatched it all a couple of years back and strongly agree. The later shows
improved on this a little with a tighter overarching narrative - hell,
Voyager seemed to be created around combining the two concepts. Discovery
(and from what I know, Picard) seem to be diving fully into the serialized
narrative style that has gotten so popular, but a lot of fans hate that since
its such a departure. I'm somewhere in between, but having a better narrative
and less (or no) throwaway episodes is more appealing to me.
