Especially as I recycle my scripts by using arguments, environment variables and the like to make things as generic as possible. While not used in these scripts, I even have scripts that sanity check and self configure , depending what your current working directory is, which can be useful. On my IRLP reflector, one of my self configuring scripts also parses the channel's configuration files to work out what binary to call and channel to use. The Perl script I use was downloaded, then I had to make a couple of minor tweaks to suit my net and the specifics of my DNS servers. I still have an issue that I haven't yet worked out, and that is how to look up the data to create A and AAAA records for hosts that use non standard ports. I will need this, to be able to put my FTP FTN capability into the nodelist, because it uses port 2121, not 21 (the BBS itself uses 21 for its own FTP server). And then I only want to do that for hosts with static IPs (which I will have to use TTL to infer - DDNS services typically use a TTL of 60 seconds). I may also have to get the Perk script to write a temporary file with a list of hostnames to use bash foo on, unless I can get someone to work it out in Perl (or do a lot of self study ;) ). ....
