It certainly sounds like it would cut down on a lot of the overhead in the
network. How much additional activity do you feel these changes could make?
I never really considered how something like that could impact user
activity.

Thanks.  I took a look at PiFace and it's exactly what I'm looking for.  The
guide I found basically told you how to build the same thing.  Based on my
skill set I'm thinking pre-built is the way to go, plus I'm not sure I could
pick up the various parts needed for the price of the turn-key PiFace.
