I remember the no radial tire days, but it was before I was of driving age.  I 
remember my parents getting their tires changed "for the winter" to the snow 
tires.  Most cars were rear wheel drive, which was always a treat when driving 
in the snow.

Then again, if you drive up the hill backwards, you instantly have front wheel 
drive.  I did that ones in the Malibu to get up a snow covered hill.
