We don't have that issue here but your options vary wildly based on location. In the UK 60% of the population have full fibre to the home, another 10% can get gigabit via cable. A lot of places can only get fibre from Openreach (was BT, previously the government owned British Telecom) so the prices are kind of meh, when you have smaller altnets building they tend to offer more for less. Then you have Northern Ireland, where fibre to the home covers 95% of the population... Luckily I'm on net for Openreach & Virgin so I have a choice, but I just buy a 74Mbps service from a cheap provider over the Openreach fibre.
