When I wrote those, that was a different version of linux, so it's possible the iptables -S doesn't work the same way it used to. I'm on debian 10, and I still get the expected output. What version of linux are you on? IIRC, you are on a Pi, but what version of raspbian? what version of iptables and/or fail2ban?
