Hello Gophers!

I am trying to get some old Nixie tubes that I rescued from a machine about
15 years ago to work again. I want to build a clock with them as so many people
do these days. But before I order the hardware for the clock, I would like to
test the Nixies that have been lying in a box on my electronics workbench for so
long. I am currently not in possession of any step-up regulator that would bring
the needed 180VDC to test them, so I am wondering what to do. Maybe just wire
them up with a carefully chosen resistor, and put them directly on the mains?

I have some holiday coming up so I could do just that, and then decide whether
my tubes are still good enough for making a clock.

My old oscilloscope died. Not fun. I had that old Philips 10MHz unit for almost
25 years. And when I got it, it was already second hand and free. I just loved
that old PM3200X, but time goes by and machines break. I have donated the unit
to somebody else for parts, as he is currently building a clock (yet another
clock! what is that with us techies and clocks?) from oscilloscope parts.

I am very much looking forward to the Christmas holidays. Will have some time
off, and will therefore have time to work on some electronics projects.
