The original world wide web, as it existed in the 1990s, is mostly gone now. Bits and pieces are still accessible through sites like the Wayback Machine(run by the Internet Archive and located on the Web at archive.org), but the feeling is not the same when accessing these sites through a modern browser. But what if someone were to serve a sampling of these sites through Gopher, simultaneously preserving the Web's history while presenting an alternative history where HTML was served by Gopher!? That is the idea behind the sub project presented here. All you need is a Gopher client capable of rendering 90s HTML, such as our very own Molasses client[1]. You can even view this through an old web browser like Netscape for a truly authentic experience, since many of these browsers support Gopher. [1] Development version only. We will release an official build soon with fairly complete HTML 3.2 rendering support.
