INTRODUCTION G0100 =============================================================================== Welcome to King's Quest 3 for the PC, an adventure game released by Sierra in 1986. This is the third game in the long series. The walkthrough for this game is complete and includes a point list. By following the walkthrough you will also get all points in the game. BASICS G0200 =============================================================================== F1 = Help F2 = Sound On/Off F3 = ReType F5 = Save F6 = Teleport F7 = Load F8 = Put map away F9 = Restart F10 = Change Speed (Slow, Normal, Fast, Fastest) Alt+Z = Quit Tab = Inventory The number in the ()s is the amount of points you get during the game. They are listed again in the point list for a quick overview but note that they are sorted by location so you will not aquire them in the order as they are written in the list. Parser inputs are in ALL CAPS. I recommend playing on Fast speed, normal if you are in dangerous situations where you can fall or an enemy is nearby. Note that this speed does not affect the clock in any way. This game is timed as you might notice from the clock in the top right corner. This means save often and be quick about your tasks. Manannan travels on the following pattern: Schedule: Total Time: 5 minutes at home 5.00 25 minutes away 30.00 5 minutes at home 35.00 25 minutes away 1.00.00 ...and so on... If you are quick with inputs and finding your way around the locations then you should be able to finish all possible spells before he returns. This requires some luck with a few random events, or patience with reloading your game. =============================================================================== 03.) WALKTHROUGH G0300 =============================================================================== ___Manannan's House___ ---------------- You have 5.00 minutes to do one of following tasks: * Feed the chickens Outside the house, FEED CHICKENS near the coop at the northern end * Clean the study Go north from the start, at the cabinet in the west corner CLEAN STUDY * Clean the kitchen In the kitchen stand next to the broom and CLEAN KITCHEN * Clean the chamber pot In Manannan's bedroom on the 1st floor EMPTY POT next to the bed If Manannan appears before that or you have any unlawful items on you it is game over. You can also do the task and wait until the 5 minute marker so you don't risk getting caught red handed. Prevent from getting caught by frequently returning to your room at the east side of the first floor. In your room DROP ALL to hide the items and later TAKE ALL to get it back. If you aren't use whether or not you have infringing items, simply press TAB to check your inventory for any with an (*) next to them. If so, you better stash it. When you start walk right into the dining area and TAKE CUP (1) from the table. Enter the kitchen at the top and TAKE BOWL (1) from the left shelf. TAKE SPOON (1) and TAKE KNIFE (1) left off the fireplace and TAKE FRUIT (1), TAKE CHOP (1) and TAKE BREAD (1) on the cutting board near the window. Return to the starting position and go up the stairs to the observatory. TAKE FLY (1) on the ground and return to the first floor. Enter the room at the top and OPEN DRAWER (1) on the table with the large mirror. At the large closet, LOOK ON TOP OF CLOSET (1), then OPEN CLOSET. SEARCH CLOSET (7). CLOSE THE CLOSET. OPEN DRAWER (3) at the right hand side and leave the room. Now go to your room at the eastern side of the first floor and DROP ALL (4). Return to the starting position and wait until the clock reaches 5.00 so Manannan leaves. You now have 25 minutes until he returns, enough time to complete the spell to defeat him. If you don't finish, simply wait five minutes with your inventory dropped and then he will leave for another 25 minutes. Anyhow, go to your room on the first floor and GET ALL back. Find the cat in the house at a random location, such as the study. Keep coming back until it is here. Try to TAKE CAT until you are successful. Now TAKE HAIR (1). Go out of the house and OPEN GATE to the chicken pen. TAKE CHICKEN and PLUCK FEATHER (1). OPEN GATE and go down south all the way. Be careful not to fall, save often and use the rocks as shields from the chasms. ___Llewdor___ ------- Go right and TAKE MUD (1) near the river. Continue right and walk to the beach. Go south here and TAKE WATER (1) from the ocean. Go back north and west until you reach a patch of desert. Point Gwydion towards the bottom right corner so you do not turn to stone as soon as Medusa arrives. When she is near you, SHOW MIRROR TO MEDUSA (5). Go south and TAKE CACTUS (1) near the rock. Go south twice more and TAKE SNAKE SKIN (1). Go east thrice and north once. TAKE MISTLETOE (1) at the tree and go west. Re-enter this screen until the bears are leaving their home. OPEN DOOR to get inside and TAKE PORRIDGE (2) from the table. Go up the stairs. OPEN DRAWER and TAKE THIMBLE (1). Leave the house, TAKE DEW (1) from the flowers and then go west, north and TAKE ACORNS (1). Make sure Gwydion takes dry nuts by LOOK ACORNS. REACH HOLE (3) at the tree and climb up the ladder (2). Carefully go over to the entrance and save your game. Enter and hope the bandit is sleeping. If not he'll push you down the tree so you need to reload your game. When he's sleeping TAKE PURSE (4) from the table and leave. Climb back down and then go east until you reach the store and OPEN DOOR. TAKE FUR (1) from the dog and then BUY OIL (1), BUY LARD (1), BUY SALT (1), BUY POUCH (1) and exit the store. LOOK MAP and teleport to Manannan's house with F6. Wait here for the eagle to arrive. This is random and if it does not arrive in the next minute or so, reload your game and keep re-entering the screen. When it does come flying through and drops the feather, TAKE FEATHER (2). Walk up the winding road and OPEN DOOR. ___Manannan's House___ ---------------- Go into the study just north and OPEN CABINET (4). MOVE BOOK at the right bookcase near the corner. MOVE LEVER (5) behind it and go down the new path. At the bottom you want to TAKE MANDRAKE (1), TAKE JUICE (1), TAKE BONE (1), TAKE SPITTLE (1), TAKE SAFFRON (1) and TAKE TOADSTOOL (1) at the northern shelf. Now go to the large spell book on the lab table and start creating those spells. ___Creating Spells___ --------------- Follow these instructions word by word as a tiny spelling mistake can mean death. If you are lucky the game didn't understand a word completely ("What's ___?" but if an action is inappropriate or missing some grammar you mess up and die, sort of. The verse include commas and is on separate lines just as they appear here. If you are running short on time simply create the transformation spell only, follow the story and then return here to create the rest of them. The time stops when you need to enter the verse so don't worry about the time too much. Each spell should take less than a minute to create. As you find out whether or not you have done something wrong straight away it is a good idea to save each time you progress (separate save just in case!). OPEN CABINET to return the wand. PUT COOKIE IN PORRIDGE. Leave the room and DROP ALL in your room on the first floor. TAKE PORRIDGE. Return to the entrance of the house and wait until Manannan has returned (e.g. 30.00 minutes). Go right and GIVE PORRIDGE TO MANANNAN (12). TAKE ALL in your bedroom and LOOK MAP. ___Llewdor___ ------- Teleport to the tavern near the shop and OPEN DOOR to the tavern. DIP FLY WINGS IN ESSENCE to become a fly and wait until the bandits chat (3). Fly outside, west twice and into the hole in the tree you reached into earlier (5). Fly back out and FLY BEGONE, MYSELF RETURN. LOOK MAP and teleport to the cave with the spider web in the northeast. (Save if you want all the points because the next action sometimes does not yield the 4 points!) DIP EAGLE FEATHER IN ESSENCE and fly into the spider web (4). When you regain control walk into the cave to retrieve a stone (3). LOOK MAP and teleport to the bottom of the path towards Manannan's house. ___Manannan's House___ ---------------- Walk up and OPEN DOOR. Go into the study and OPEN CABINET. OPEN DOOR and TALK CAPTAIN. GIVE GOLD TO CAPTAIN (3) and leave. Walk east along the pier and over the plank onto the ship (2). ___Pirate Ship___ ----------- Walk right and TAKE BOX. Walk back left and DROP BOX left off the large one. JUMP CRATE twice and then JUMP to grab the ladder (2). Go up the ladder and walk right. TAKE SHOVEL (1) near the boat and go back left. In the cabin, OPEN CHEST and TAKE ALL (3). Carefully climb down the ladder and wait in the right hold until you hear the message that you are nearing land. Unfortunately you can't just leave the game running as the mice talk as well and it can take a long while to reach the shore, perhaps 5-10 minutes. When it's time, POUR SLEEP POWDER ON FLOOR and say SLUMBER, HENCEFORTH. Go left and JUMP CRATE twice then JUMP to the ladder. Climb all the way up and climb down the small ladder on the right. Fall off the edge of the ship in the next screen and swim right to the shore. Before the beach you might need to quickly enter the southern screen and return so the shark doesn't catch you (5). ___Daventry___ -------- Walk right and stand in front of the palm tree. Switch to slow if necessary. You need to walk five steps to the right and DIG (7). You'll know when you have done it correctly. Go north and east, walk on the upper path to the left again. Climb up the rock in the center and go right on the highest path. Walk through the waterfall to the north screen but wait before you proceed to the end of it. A snowman will soon arrive and you need to PUT FLY WINGS IN ESSENCE quickly or have the input ready by then. Fly east two screens and you will return to normal. Go down the left path (4). Walk into the cave nearby to arrive at the top right. Climb to the next one and you'll end up at the bottom left. Enter the next cave and you will be at the bottom right. Walk all the way east and south, you can't avoid falling down at this point. Walk up the stairs on the right until you exit at the top. RUB OINTMENT ON SELF. Walk right and defeat the dragon with STIR THE STORM BREW WITH A FINGER, then BREW OF STORMS, CHURN IT UP (7). UNTIE ROSELLA (3). The directions to the castle are: East, east, all the way down the staircase, west around the debris, north twice (4).
