Things could be pretty scary if the opponent is facing Grant. He is big but so fast. He can be anywhere in no time... even if he is facing a big turtle. He can play either close or from a distance. His standing A and distance A are useful and speed. Also his crouching A is the same... you can control the match with them and put your opponent on the ground for a long time. His standing and crouching Bs are not as fast as the As but they have some good invinciblity too. Nevertheless his crouching B does not seem to have the edge but it could be handy against Tizoc. The power behind this fella is his distance C. It has a very good invinciblity that it can even go through Terry's Power Geyser. But I could not say the same about his distance D, crouching C and D. Because they have some damn lag and they do not come out that fast. The opponent can attack with a Super Move after you do any of them, and boy you will really regret doing them... so why are they there then? Because you can cancel them to Special Moves and Super Moves... you can be tricky with that. See? His standing D is there for a fast play and combination attacks. When you do it, you can continue with the crouching A or Majin Engetsu Rin. Also, his standing C is not that good as anti-air, because there are some attacks that can hit you if you do it... but I do sometimes dash then do it fast, by that I could hit my opponent. That is how it could be useful to you too. The same thing goes for his AC and Down + AC, although his AC is great for the Messhou Hisetsu + B... it does not seem to be that good enough... but if it countered the opponent attack then it would be deadly. His Majin-Gan is great because you can easily do it after the Guard Cancel. And it is good for some air attacks as well. It is damaging... is there anything that is not damaging for Grant? I guess not. His air attacks are all useful to you. Use his air A for those who like to jump a lot. It is so damn fast and could easily break out anything in a flash. His air B can be used for the tricky play. Like when the opponent is defending low, then jump fast and B then Messhou Hisetsu + B. His C is a very good air attack for everything. Just jump up or to your opponent and C. Use it wisely and you will be happy to have it. If the opponent does not jump, then you jump low and C and if he does jump then jump up and C. It is so good and have invinciblity. Its invinciblity comes when he punches his opponent. It is kind of fast and you will never know the timing so you will not care because it will hit the opponent in all cases. Also, his air D for the combination attacks and Messhou Hisetsu. You can jump backward and do D then cancel it to Messhou Hisetsu... this would be tricky too and make your play better. The more you do tricky things the more your opponent gets confused. The Kokuen Ryu can be used in two ways. The one with the A button is for the Guard Cancel and sometimes the opponent can defend even if you do it after the Guard Cancel, because it comes out kind of slow. So it should be used also when the opponent is cornered, jumping or when the opponent jumps at you. And be fully careful, he or she can cross you when you do it, if he or she jumps high. The one with the C button is there for the distance attacks. Use it when you want to get near to your opponent in un-noticable way. You can use it when you counter anything, when the opponent falls down and there is a counter on the screen... do the Kokuen Ryu. Gou Dangai has got the same method, but some differences. If you do it with the B button then it will comes out fast and you can use it against the Special Moves. I mean, when someone like the pizza boy Terry does his Burn Knuckle, then do the Just Defend and then Guard Cancel, then Gou Dangai. I takes some good damage. Also, you can use it to get near to your opponent and if the opponent does anything when you do it then fast do Majin Engetsu Rin. The one with the D button can be used to cross your opponent and it does have that much lag. Only do not do it when the opponent is cornered. Use it from time to time and stick with B button, because it is more helpful. Use his Gou Retsu Shou move against turtles a lot to confuse them or when the opponent is cornered and you want to change your ways in attacking, do it. And if you get your opponent with it, then they will be so sorry because there are a lot of unhappy things after it. But be sure to do it carefully. Because it has some bad lag and you do not want the opponent to defend it and then kick your sorry @$$. His best and unbeatable anti-air is with no doubt his Kyou Chou Jin. Do it whenever the opponent jumps and if he or she Just Defended it, then do not continue, and if not then do the Messhou Hisetsu. Also, you can break it, so that is just great... break it and do anything that comes to your mind... it will work, believe me. Speaking of which, his Messhou Hisetsu can be used with the D button from a distance and with the B button in a close range battle. Do not worry about the lag, there won't be any lag if you do it as I said. Grant has so many lag Special Moves, Super Moves and Normal Attacks... but if you use them all as I said, then you will not have any problems. His Ma Heki attack is there only for the combination attacks. Use it after Kyou Chou Jin or Gou Retsu Shou. If you want something really invincible and painful, the Majin Engetsu Rin is the divine answer. It can hit anything, and I mean anything. may be there will be a trade hit if Terry does his high air attack, B. And why would you do it against air attacks if you have other good options? Do not be stupid and do it just like that... no, it is not about guessing. If you see the opponent does a move, easily do it. Remember the lag if it did not hit? If you want something easier and saver to you, then do it after the Guard Cancel (which means you have to Just Defend first). It is not that hard, really. The same exacte case goes for his other Super Move, Majin Haten Dan. But this can be performed after many things and it is a very good anti-air. Some guys are good with the Just Defense. So, go for the Guard Cancel, or when you see them hit, do it. Also, if you see any damn move from any character then fast do it. Just like that... do it and save yourself. You will get a lot of needed damage and decent counter. His throw Ankoku Otoshi is normal and can be escaped easily. I do not think you need it that much because even if the opponent is turtling, you could use many tricky moves. But it is another option for Grant, though. His Feint Moves are there if you want your opponent to jump, you could use the Kokuen Ryu, or to scare him when you do the Majin Haten Dan. So, now... the important thing, when the match starts... NEVER wait for your opponent to make the first move. You just start attacking and never stop. Try to put the opponent on the ground by his great Normal Attacks, like standing A, B, C and D... crouching A and distance C. So, when you attack with those, focus on the enemy movements. If he trys to jump, do the distance C. And to not give the opponent the time or the fresh air to jump. Do from time to time up C and if he jumps, fast just jump with him and A. When the opponent depends on the Just Defense, try to change everything, dash and then jump B and then Messhou Hisetsu. Or dash crouching B and then Gou Retsu Shou. Jump and do everything you could... some guys say he sucks if it comes to air fights, but I say no. You have the Just Defense... so you could do whatever you like. There will be no trade hits because your attacks are much stronger, better and greater than everyone in the game. Even Terry could stand a chance against you. Always understand that you have the upper hand with everything, you just need to focus and do everything perfectly good and in time. You can easily corner your opponent... starting off with the Normal Attacks is good to corner everyone... when you want to be harsh, do not just push the buttons endlessly... do everything for a good purpose, like when you want to trick your opponent with the distance D and then cancel it to Kokuen Ryu. Or AC counter then any move. Or when you do crouching attacks then Gou Retsu Shou, do a very painful combo. Do not just do a simple thing, make the combo so big and damaging as if you are saying to your opponent: "Watch yoursel."! Use the Guard Cancel a LOT and never defend for no good purpose. Just Defense is good and helpful... use it and be good at it because you could do very good with it and a less good without it. But believe me, if you go with my strategy, you will not give the opponent a second to think to attack you. Most of the time they will think of saving their @$$e$ or hopelessly jumping. Be very fast, do not stand still like a moron. If you have Power Stocks... use them wisely and let your opponent fear you when you have them. ====================================================== ----------------------------------- Just Defend & Guard Cancel Section: ----------------------------------- I opened this section for all of you who e-mailed me (though most of you are not Grant fans) about the Just Defend and Guard Cancel system. I will aim at Grant with everything so you can picture your favorite character in Grant's shoes and then do everything as I say. I warn you, it will be long so that you could understand everything clearly and be good at it. I will mention many examples and write the easiest ways to everything, so if you feel tired, go fish or sleep then come back again. This F.A.Q. will not fly, anyways! ^_^ Before we get down to the fun stuff, I want to warn you not to ask the below questions as I am very very very good at Just Defend & Guard Cancel, so it is stupid to ask them: 1)Never ask, why doesn't this or that work? 2)Never say, I did as you said and nothing worked with me! Why?! 3)Never dare to say, I do not believe you are good at it, because I am very good at almost every fighting game and the Parry System (in Street Fighter 3rd Strike) and still cannot be good at Just Defend & Guard Cancel! So, it must be all about luck! Simply put, the only thing that can answer these questions is; "You need a lot of practice in order to master it!" So, you need to be fast enough, you need to play a good mind game and you need to read the opponent movements perfectly good (you are not a fortune teller, but you can see that attack coming with your eyes, right? Then use your hands to do as I say or else you are not going to be any good.)! Okay, on with the fun! ------------ Just Defend: ------------ First, let us talk about the major thing which is Just Defend, because with it, you can Guard Cancel anything with first doing the Just Defend! You can understand the meaning of it by reading the sentence. Just Defend means you have to defend exactly when the attack comes right away in order to activate it. So, to be more simple... then let us say Terry, when you see him does the standing punch you have to defend it not when he is about to do it, but when he is about to hit you. You will see yourself flash! That means you did it right! By that you will be able to do the Guard Cancel, or can still do another Just Defendings if the player does some punches. So, when you Just Defend the attack you will see on the screen "Just Defended" shows up, that means you did not defend it, but "Just Defended" the attack right before the second of beating you which makes you special. To put it simple, it is not that hard to do that, but the hard thing is about to come below... keep on reading, ladies and gentlemen. You have to understand that the Just Defend can make you gain a little life back. Like when you are in the T.O.P. mode, you will little by little gain life, but with Just Defend... you can easily gain life in anytime. That is a big good thing, now! Also, another of its good advantages is it makes you attack and jump freely! If you are a master with it, then you will make the opponent hate you so much (ask me about that), but some other opponents respect you and feel exciting about the fact that they are having fun with an expert player! Now, before we go more into it, I want to tell you that the Just Defend system helps you a lot to be way better than not doing it! For example, I am only so good with Grant, but sometimes I feel bored that people go away because he is good! They do not bother, they say he is the boss and some bad excuses to run away. So, I have to change him and select one of the other characters in order to make them play with me again (well, Kain is boss, but they don't nag! Funny). So, I choose for fun, Tizoc! I do not know what is his weak points or good points, I just know three things. 1)His movelist. 2)Just Defend. 3)Guard Cancel. Look, only these things, and I do very good with everyone. They all can see thet I suck with him, but because I am good at these things, they still complain! And I admit that I LOSE a lot (but not when I choose Grant) but still I give them a very hard time. I lose because I do not know his weakness or goodness, I only know Just Defend and Guard Cancel anything I want... but that is not enough too. So, you see? That means Just Defend helps a lot even if you do not know your player that well. So, my point now is (if you are really smart); What if you know how to use your player well and good at Just Defend and Guard Cancel? It will be a living hell, yes it is... ladies and gentlemen. ^_^ More into it. Now, the most important part about the Just Defend is the first "hit" that you will Just Defend. It is as important as your life! You have to time the first hit that comes from your opponent and then everything else will be just fine. You have first to know the frames and everyone's Normal Attacks and... ah, wait, let us take it step by step. First try to practice at home to Just Defend only the first hit that you take! Play with all the characters. Grant's distance D is not as slow as Terry's! So you need to time your Just Defend with the attack! What is the point you say? Because when you have a little life bar and let us say Kain performs his Himmlische Seele super, what will you do if you did not get the first hit right? You will either defend all the hits and kill you since you have a little life bar, or just hit and you are a goner! But what if you Just defended the first hit? Everything will be cool and you will gain a lot of life after you continue on Just Defending the other hits! So, it is so importnat to practice a lot to Just Defend every attack, do not rush yourself into it. You just have to "first" Just Defend the first hit whether is it coming from low, mid or high! The thing is how to react fast! Play against the CPU and attack and when he does anything, Just Defend! Pactice this a lot! Try to jump and let the opponent perform any uppercut move so that you will only have one choice, and that it to Just Defend it or else it will hit you! By this you will be a little bit better. Remember the most important part to everything is not to have fear deep inside of you whether you are fighting an expert or a CPU or in a big tournament, because you will screw everything! And you will be greatly screwed! Just Defend is the key to the winning, and not depending on it having fear to do it, will make you wide open to many things! But when you perfectly do it, you will make your opponent fear you as well. Or let us say, he will respect you and play as good and hard as you! Here you will pretty much do great! Taking out the tournament is a good thing, but you won't do it unless you are good at Just Defend and Guard Cancel! Expect the others are good at it, you will have no place with them. They will own you for free. So, stay at home and practice a lot the first hit. Then when you are really good (let us say 90% out of 100%), go to the arcade and do what you have worked for. See the results. The CPU pattern is pretty stupid, but when you play with a human it will be a little hard. If you get screwed, then that is for the good. Try again and again until you get better and better at the first hit. If you take more than one hit, it is okay, Just Defend the first one and defend then other (not Just Defend), I will talk about how to Just Defend more than one attack next! The next step is how to Just Defend more than one attack? All you have to do is release the stick a little bit from the defense position and then Just Defend again right away according to the opponents' attacks! How you say? Easy... Grant has a powerful Super Attack, it is Majin Engetsu Rin (around 14 hits), he kicks the opponent greatly, but he performs it not that fast, nor slow. So you need to release your stick from the defense position and then Just Defend again accordingly! Hit after hit, Just Defend! So if he does not do it fast nor slow, you have to Just Defend hit after hit not fast nor slow. Some people do millions of Just Defend to Just Defend the whole Super Move, sometimes it works, not because it is just like that, but because luck was by their side! They will not lose anything, if they screw up, they will for sure defend! But that is not my cup of tea. I do what is better and makes everything go for sure! I want a very sure result, you know! So do as I said. Let us say you want to Just Defend Hokotomaru's Super Move, Chou Baku-en Kunai! Now he throws those Shurikens SO FAST! So, you have to be fast when you do Just Defend as well! Simply put, if the hits have some lag, then you have to Just Defend as you see it. Let us say you want to Just Defend some tricky moves? Like Gato's Shin-Ga? He could do stand D, Shin-Ga and proceed with the Tsuika Kougeki or not, and sometimes he can wait for less than one second and half and then continue! What to do? You have to Just Defend accordingly! Just because now you can Just Defend perfectly, does not mean the opponent will make you eat him alive! He is as good as you, so he knows how to confuse you! Anyway, that said, some tricks are ahead, so keep on reading. Now, what to exactly do to be so good at it? Go home and go to the Practice Mode and let someone take anyone that does a lot of hits like Grant or Butt or Hokotomaru and try to Just Defend their Super Moves. Practice a lot and do not say; "Oh crap, forget it." Because little by little you will be good at it, because you know now what to exactly do, so all is up to you. After you get better, go to the Arcade Mode and try to reach Grant and put the hardest level so that you can get killed by at least three moves if you screw up. The thing here is to win the match by only what I say. So, do as I say, 1)Choose Grant (anyone of your favorite) 2)Never attack at all with your Special Moves or Super Moves. 3)Only Just Defend. 4)Only attack with your Normal Attacks. 5)Never do any combination attacks, including A,A or jumpd D then A! Only One Normal after each Just Defend! 6)Never block at all (Only Just Defend) 7)Never use Guard Cancel by mistake (we are up to it later on) Now you will die painfully a lot, but not to worry, all for the better. Do not cross what I say, believe me... it will help you to get better a lot. Grant the CPU takes a lot of damage that makes you do the Just Defend perfectly good and watch out. Also, Grant have fast Special Moves, Normal Attacks and Super Moves and a lot of hits, so it will make you good at Just Defending more than three hits. Now, do as I said and try to win. If you feel lucky, then lose the match and try to win without any luck. Just Defend and force Grant to use his brutal attacks like, Kyou Chou Jin, Gou Dangai, Gou Retsu-Shou, Majin Haten Dan so that you could Just Defend them! Dash, crouch, low jump to force him to go crazy and attack endlessly. All for the Just Defend. When you feel you are getting better then go to the second step: 1)Choose Grant (anyone of your favorite) 2)Attack with your Special Moves or Super Moves. 3)Only Just Defend. 4)Never attack with your Normal Attacks. 5)Never do any combination attacks, including A,A or jumpd D then A! Only One Special Move or Super Move after each Just Defend! 6)Never block at all (Only Just Defend) 7)Never use Guard Cancel by mistake (we are up to it later on) Now do as I said, it should be harder since your power meter will fill only by Just Defending! So, do try to win by this method! Try and try, if you get sick tired of it, do not beat the crap out of my sweet poor Grant (mean, mean you ^_^), just turn off your console and go have some rest and anywhere you want to go and then try later when you are fully ready for the task! This will make you a lot better, believe me. When you think you are good enough, do the follow: 1)Choose Grant (anyone of your favorite) 2)Attack with everything. 3)Only Just Defend. 4)Do combination attacks only after you do the Just Defend! 5)Never block at all (Only Just Defend) 6)Never use Guard Cancel by mistake (we are up to it later on) Now I think, it is easy to win! But still, not blocking is hard! Imagine yourself you only have so little life bar left (like one hit and you are a goner), so you have to fight all your best and Just Defend everything to gain life back and adjust! We are here not to teach you how to attack, but how to perfectly Just Defend! Now, I think by now you are able to do it right (hopefully)! Try the follow: 1)Choose Grant (anyone of your favorite) 2)Attack with all your might. 3)Use Just Defend. 4)Never block at all (Only Just Defend) 5)Never use Guard Cancel by mistake (we are up to it later on) 6)If you get hit because of one mistake, lose the round! You think this is easier than before? Think again, stud! This is harder than before because you will let Grant attack you more when you are about to use your Special Moves, Super Moves and Normal Attacks freely! That is so good for him! And remember, when he is going to attack you "NEVER BLOCK" so you have to be smart enough and react fast to Just Defend when you are about to eat crap for your mistakes! By this, if you get hit, you have to lose the round and try again! So you need to try again! It is not sarcastic, believe me it is for the best! You will thank me later on! You can do anything you want, I am not forcing you, I only have free advices and you have the right to choose. Now after being completely good. Reset and play the Arcade Mode once again see how good you have become with everything. If you see any character have some stupid attacks, then give her or him some time and kick him or her out again like I said with Grant! The most difficult ways to Just Defend are 1)When the you are about to land and the opponent performs a Super Move. 2)When you "just" jumped but your character still did not completely jump to the air due to the Super Move that the opponent performed! Those are the most difficlt ways. If you happened to be in any, you have to be VERY FAST to Just Defend or you are history, because most of the expert players do that. And they would laugh at you if you are good and you do not know this, because they will always get you with it. So, you have to practice to be good with everything, hero! Congratulations, we finished the good part. Now to the "hardest part"! ------------- Guard Cancel: ------------- Many many many experts are good with the Just Defend system, but they suck big time with the Guard Cancel! Guard Cancel is so useful in the game and I hope I will make you do it right. On with it. Guard Cancel meant to prevent any cheap moves and turtling! How? Read... How to activate the Guard Cancel? When you do the Just Defend, you will see yourself flash, here FAST, do any Special Move, Super Move or T.O.P. attack! But you cannot cancel the Just Defend to a Normal Attack like in Street Fighter 3rd Strike (stupidity)! You only cancel them to as I said before, Special Move, Super Move or T.O.P. attack! The easiest thing to Guard Cancel is the T.O.P. attacks since you only need to push two buttons (C and D) to cancel the guard! Some characters do their T.O.P. attacks so lowly, like Jae Hoon and Gato... so the Guard Cancel to T.O.P. must be used in a very smart way or they will surely get screwed! The thing is, your Guard Cancel won't help you a lot against fast and powerful supers if you are going to do it in the middle of their attacks, you have to be very sure that they will finish and then you can Guard Cancel! So, how to know? Well, you have to know how many hits do all characters do in their Normal Attacks, Super Moves, T.O.P., Special Moves, air attacks and so on! Also, when combined to anything how it will end? I mean jump D, standing D then Super Move! The Number will change! So, here... the best thing is to count! I do it all the time when I see many confused attacks, but with the other things it just comes by nature! Getting used to it will help you a lot. Example, Grant can jump cross D then crouch A, A, then Majin Engetsu Rin. That will be at least 17 hits if the opponent did not mash the buttons, if he does it will become 18! So, the best thing to Guard Cancel the last hit after all this mess is to do Quarter circle forward then Just Defend the last hit then fast another Quarter circle forward + B. You will Guard Cancel the Just Defend and then let your opponent say WOOW! Why? Because you Just Defended all the hits and then after the last attack you by style Guard Cancelled the last Just Defend to a Super Move. You gained a lot of life, you did something stylish and you saved yourself. More simple, Just Defend everything until the count goes to 17th, do twice quarter circle forward then Just Defend the last hit and puch B button to activate the Super Move! Easy, eh? Sure not! You have to practice from the zero now. Follow what I say. Try to only Guard Cancel the first hits... I mean the moves that hit only once like Power Wave, Gou Dangai or Hakki Shou! If it is hard to Just Defend then put the command for the move to activate it to Guard Cancel after Just Defend, then how about doing this sweet easy method? Do the command before the opponent hits you then when he hits, fast Just Defend and then only push the button that will perform the move! Like do quarter circle forward, then Just Defend, then push B. Grant's Gou Dangai will be performed! The idea here is not to be tricked by anyone. If the opponent does not attack, then do not go back and push B, because will get screwed! He will Just Defend and then Guard Cancel to a Super Move! Easy and simple, do the command for the move, if the opponent did not hit then fast attack and when you see him in the position of attacking, do the command and when you see the attack coming, Just Defend then Guard Cancel by pushing a confirming button to the move to be performed! That said, the same case goes for the Super Moves, do the command for them and then when you see an attack coming, Just Defend then Guard Cancel by pressing the confirming button to your Super Move! Now go home and try to Guard Cancel evry single attack (not more than one hit). Try and try... play against Grant again and try. Guard Cancel helps a lot. Some guys are good with the Just Defend and Grant has Majin Haten Dan where he can hit the opponent one hit but so damaging. It can be easily Just Defended! So, does that mean not to use it at all? No, you can use it easily by using the Guard Cancel to it! Same thing goes to many many other Normal Attacks, Special Move and Super Moves. Now, you know the trick of it. Try to play against experts and do it with them. Do not just do it, attack and Just Defend as much as you can and when you see it coming, just do it! Guard Cancel changes the tables so easily. I remember once I played as Tizoc against a POWERFUL Grant expert user! He kicked me so hard (of course, because I suck with Tizoc somehow), I had so very little life bar but the Power Meter was at full and he knew that I am good at Just Defend and Guard Cancel, so he had to do something nasty in order to win! Look what the very smart guy did, he jumped by surprise and I did not have time to Just Defend because it was a big surprise, so I blocked... then he fast performed his powerful Majin Engetsu Rin (powerful means with D), now what do you think happened here? Take a moment and think, you will surely say it is normal to block the Super Move even if you did not want to because you blocked the air attack! But I was way and way smarter than his laughable old trick! He should not of have looked down on me by that! It was a big surprise when he jumped but not after that! All I did was I released the stick from the blocking position right after his air D and then FAST Just Defended the WHOLE Super Move, and then fast before the last hit of his Super Move, I did half circle forward, up/forward, up... then Just Defended the last hit and did again half circle forward, up/forward, up + C (Big Fall Tizoc). He was completely shocked and I gained a lot of life back and then knocked him out! See how I changed the tables to my side? After the game he admitted that was the most coolest thing he has ever seen! Actually, I did not do it because I thought it would be cool! I did it because I had to... Tizoc cannot catch Grant if he does not Guard Cancel because Grant covers from his Super Move very fast and can jump back so I had to Guard Cancel to the most damaging Super Move in oder to win! So, you should be 100% sure that Guard Cancel is important. Now when you are good enough to Guard Cancel the first hit, then you should go to the hardest thing. To Guard Cancel after several of hits! Play against Grant... 1)Choose Grant (anyone of your favorite) 2)Only Just Defend and Guard Cancel. 3)Never attack with your Normal Attacks. 4)Never block at all (Only Just Defend to Guard Cancel) 5)Guard Cancel only to T.O.P. attacks! 6)Must win the match! The trick here to to stay alive as long as you can and win the match by these rules. Again, it is up to you not to follow it, it is not as if I am going to ask Geese to do the Raising Storm... all up to you, really! Try, you will fail... but try again and again until you win two rounds and then try again to be sure! And if you get better then you have to be a little tougher... next... 1)Choose Grant (anyone of your favorite) 2)Only Just Defend and Guard Cancel. 3)Never attack with your Normal Attacks. 4)Never block at all (Only Just Defend to Guard Cancel) 5)Guard Cancel only to T.O.P. attacks or Special Moves in the T.O.P. Mode only! 6)Must win the match! Now this is also hard, you have to only Guard Cancel when you are in the T.O.P. Mode, so you have to be really careful here. If Grant does a lot of damage then you have to Just Defend and gain life and be back in T.O.P. Mode so that you could Guard Cancel anything to anything and win the match... what you need here is to be calm and control your temper! Now a little bit easier... 1)Choose Grant (anyone of your favorite) 2)Only Just Defend and Guard Cancel. 3)Never attack with your Normal Attacks. 4)Never block at all (Only Just Defend to Guard Cancel) 5)Guard Cancel only to Super Moves level 1 while you are in the T.O.P. Mode! 6)Must win the match! This is easier, just put the Mode in the last box. Now you have to Just Defend a lot to gain Power Meter so that when you are in that Mode, you could Just Defend then Guard Cancel to Super Moves level 1 and win the match. This will take long, if you still not good at it, you will may be win the third round but it should not take a long time since the Super Move will take a lot of damage when you are in the T.O.P. Mode. So you have an advantage and a disadvantage! Next is the hardest... 1)Choose Grant (anyone of your favorite) 2)Only Just Defend and Guard Cancel. 3)Never attack with your Normal Attacks. 4)Never block at all (Only Just Defend to Guard Cancel) 5)Guard Cancel only to Special Moves! 6)Never Guard Cancel one hit. It must be more than three hit at least! 7)Must win the match! 8)The Special Move can be used only once after the Guard Cancel, which means, you can do it again when you see "Counter" on the screen! Simply put, never use combination attacks! 9)Never Guard Cancel to any Special Move if you reach the T.O.P. Mode! Now is the good task... this should make you get a lot better by making you have a hard time winning and not stepping to the T.O.P. Mode. If you get past this, then by now I think you are good enough to use the Just Defend and Guard Cancel system! So, now... 1)Choose Grant (anyone of your favorite) 2)Attack with all your might. 3)Use Just Defend to Guard Cancel. 4)Never block at all (Only Just Defend) 5)If you get hit because of one mistake, lose the round! Now is the last task. Since you can use all your might and attacks endlessly, then you should be ashamed to get hit! You should be so good at it now and perfectly good. However, you have now to play the whole game again and do everything with each character so that you could get better and better than before. After you learn everything, believe me that you will be a lot better and you will be so free to jump or do whatever you wanted to do to win! Then you will just have to be tricky not to let the opponent get you with his good Guard Cancel, like there are some Special Moves that you can Just Defend then Guard Cancel but you will not be able to hit the opponent because he could escape like Grant's Gou Dangai + D, if he performs it from a close range and you Just Defended it then Guard Cancel to anything, Grant will escape and be behind you while you are performing your Special Move, T.O.P. or Super Move to the Air! He could dash and does a very harmful combo to you! So you also should know this! When you get better you will see many new things and you will adjust to them! ======================================================= ---------------- Combos: ---------------- I will only write the names of the moves (not the commands), I have always been so... so if anybody is not good with it, you can see the command list above and then check here again. Due to the many requests oh how to play against some characters, I will write everything and I want to add how to be play the CPU to make this F.A.Q. complete. Now to the CPU, then Vs. Human (coming soon). ============ Rock Howard: ============ When the match starts, you could kill Rock easily by only your distance C, it can end the match in not time. Just focus and wait, when he performs Hard Edge, or jump or runs to you, just do distance C. It will eat anything and still beat the crap out of him. Sometimes he gets angry and performs Repuu Ken, Just Defend it and wait. This is pretty much for fun and to test your reaction. If you want to have fun more you could jump and he will perform Rising Tackle, Just Defend the three hits then Guard Cancel to Messhou Hisetsu. When you want to kill him fast, do distance C then wait (do not move), he will do Hard Edge, Just Defend it and then Guard Cancel to Gou Retsu Shou then Gou Dangai. When he falls, do Gou Dangai as many times as you can until he stands up again. Then force him to the corner by doing Kokuen Ryuu. Most of the time you will get a counter hit, fast do it again or do the usual method for damage. Ma Heki, Ma Heki, Ma Heki, Ma Heki, "anything"! Well, there is nothing surprising here. Rock depends on what you do, and he most of the time acts accordingly. He does not use his Raising Storm that much, because he is so stupid to do that. Also, he does not use his Deadly Rave or Shine Knuckle at all with Grant. He seldom uses them. He likes to perform Double Reppu Ken a lot if you do distance D. And he likes to jump whenever you do crouching As, Bs, Cs or Ds. He defends your Majin Gan everytime you do it, that is a very good thing. You could crush his guard with only three Majin Gan. So, corner him, then do it twice, then jump and do D, crouching As until you crush his guard... then when you crush his guard, just FAST do Kyou Chou-Jin, AB, Ma Heki, Ma Heki, Ma Heki, Ma Heki, "anything"! Simply put, his pattern is pretty much stupid for a CPU! ============= Terry Bogard: ============= You should be at ease here since the trademark character of the fatal fury games is so easy to beat. When the match starts, you have some sure options to win the match. First, just jump straight up like a crazy and push D whenever Terry comes to you. Terry will not be able to do anything at all. He will welcome the hit every time and eat it until he painfully dies. He will unleash Power Wave sometimes, but it will not hit you since you have Messhou Hisetsu, if you feel like the Power Wave will hit you while you are in the air, fast do Messhou Hisetsu! It will save you. The other method is only do Kyou Chou-Jin + A while you are close and continue with Messhou Hisetsu and do both over and over again! If Terry gets cornered, then continue the Kyou Chou-Jin + A with Messhou Hisetsu + B and he gets a little be far then Messhou Hisetsu + D. He will most of the time defend and then not! You do not have anything to lose, so on with the fun. Do it over and over until you knock him down. Terry is just so stupid to do anything.... and that's a fact. Now, if you want to have fun and play fair and square and kick him out by your very unmatched skills with Grant, then do the follow. When the match starts Terry most of the time will give you a little time to do anything. Here, do crouching A, then he will either do Power Wave, AB or jump. If he performs Power Wave, jump and punish him. If he ABs or jumps, do not bother with anything other than Kyou Chou-Jin then Messhou Hisetsu. If you feel confused, Just Defend and then Guard Cancel to Gou Dangai. Then when he is down, fast Gou Dangai, Gou Dangai, Gou Dangai + B until you could reach him. The Point of doing the moves for over three times is to full your power meter so that you could have some Power Stocks. Then now, jump attack him endlessly, jump and then he will either do standing As or Power Dunk... Just Defend anything he does, and Guard Cancel to Messhou Hisetsu, this will give you a counter... now FAST dash then standing D, crouching A, Majin Engetsu Rin + B. Always use his level 1 super, do not waste level 2 on him. You need to get as many SSS as you can and Grant does a lot of damage even with his level 1 supers. Now, he will fall... fast Gou Dangai, Gou Dangai, Gou Dangai to do what I said before. And then you could do some good hit by your crocuing As, standing B and A or if he defends, and then distance C... he will not defend it most of the time. If he does not defend your crouching As, just kill him with another Majin Engetsu Rin. If he jumps use your good anti-air super, Majin Haten Dan. If you get a counter, then go for Gou Dangai. If he is cornered jump and most of the times he will not defend (high jump), do jump D, Kyou Chou-Jin, AB, Ma Heki, Ma Heki, Ma Heki, Ma Heki, "anything"! Just always go for something fast and damaging. He should go down in no time since he is so stupid to defend. Sometimes he throws some Power Waves, Burning Knuckles, Crack Shoots... Just Defend them for fun and then punish him. You do not have to Guard Cancel since he has a bad recovery. He will seldom perform Power Geyser or Buster Wolf, if he does... Just Defend then Guard Cancel to anything. He will give you a lot of life back. His moves are easy to Just Defend and Guard Cancel so have fun and do not bother to do anything else. ============== Hotaru Futaba: ============== Hotaru plays way better than Terry. She uses some Special Moves many times to save herself, but that won't stop us to beat crap out of her. When the match starts, just do Kokuen Ryuu + B over and over again (if she does not defend). Whens he defends it, wait for her, she will for sure do Sou Shou Shin, here you could Just Defend all the hits then Guard Cancel to Gou Dangai or while she is performing Sou Shou Shin, FAST do Gou Dangai, if you are near the corner then proceed with Ma Heki, Ma Heki, Ma Heki, Ma Heki, "anything"! If you are not near the corner, then do another Gou Dangai or Kyou Chou-Jin then Messhou Hisetsu. Then as usual Gou Dangai over and over again until she stand up again, then do the Kyou Chou-Jin method I told you with Terry. It will work with all of the characters. If you do crouching As, she will AB or jump. Do kick her hard with any anti-air move. If you want to test your Just Defend and Guard Cancel skills, then let her have two Power Stocks, then get near her and do some Normal Attacks, she will attack with her "Sou Shou Ten Renge" and her you will gain a lot of life if you Just Defend, I do it all the time for fun. And if you want her to perform her anti-air attack, Ten Shou Ranki, just low jump over and over again until she performs it. Just Defend all the hits and after she unleash the last hit, Just Defend it then Guard Cancel to Messhou Hisetsu for FUN! Really fun! If you do not Just Defend her Sou Shou Shin and only blocked it, most of the time she will go for Ten shin Shou. So, keep blocking and then punish her. Most of the strategy I wrote with against Terry works against her as well. So be at ease... the CPU still not a worthy opponent! She does not defend your Majin Gan at all. So you can do it over and over again until you knock her down. If she defends it by luck then do it again. If she still defends it, then that is for the best. You could crush her guard with only three Majin Gan. So, corner her, then do it twice, then jump and do D, crouching As until you crush her guard... then when you crush her guard, just FAST do Kyou Chou-Jin, AB, Ma Heki, Ma Heki, Ma Heki, Ma Heki, "anything"! Hotaru is pretty decent compared to the others. She does a decent damage and does not do bad nor good. Much of a balanced character. She goes for combos sometimes but her combos are not that damaging or big. Also, she likes to jump whenever she is forced to. You will pretty much have fun with her and not make the battle boring. I could yawn many times with Terry, but I never did with Hotaru. The best thing you have to do here is the above, if you want to have fun then I strongly advice you to go for the "Stand still" method, which is, jump D, standing A, crocuhing A, distance C. The first three hits will be combo friendly, but the distance C just to make sure that she does not jump. Not to worry, she will be hit and so rarely will block! The CPU does not seem to like Grant's distance C, because it hits every one in the game! Anyway, she is pretty much easy to beat but the thing is she is fun to play against... if she ever does Rengeki Shuu, be sure to either block or Just Defend and Guard Cancel to punish her. Either way, she will be punished. ============ Bonne Jenet: ============ Jenet is as stupid as Terry. You can defeat her with many different methods... or easy method as I would like to call them. You can repeat doing Kokuen Ryuu + C all the time and she will welcome every hit with open arms. She will not defend that much, just keep doing Kokuen Ryuu. When you get a counter hit, do Kokuen Ryuu again. If you corner her, backward twice and again with the Kokuen Ryuu. Another method is you can use Gou Dangai for lots of counter hits to do damaging combos. Do Gou Dangai when she is about to move, I mean you are not a fortune-teller, but you could see her when she walks or performs anything, if she does anything, do Gou Dangai. If you do Gou Dangai and she defends it, do it again after some time to make her make a move. You could corner her for many damaging combination attacks. Another method is you can always jump with the D, she will welcome everything and get beaten easily by your combos. You could do crouching As for a start and then distance C. She will not defend your distance C most of the time. Just jump over and over again, if she defends then jump again if not then eat her a very damaging combo (see the Combos Section). She will not surprise you with anything. Actually she will surprise you with one thing, and that is, she is nothing to write home about. Pretty much weak. Jenet performs Crazy Ivan many times when you give her some air to breath. Also, she likes using her Buffrass with the get-ups and when you use your Normal Attacks from a long range. Also, when she has some Power Bars, she will use her Many Many Torpedo for free against your distance C. If your distance C was way to early, you will trade hits. Also, when you jump, she can perform Aurora anytime, so be prepared for the Just Defend and Guard Cancel! Or sometimes Gulf Tomahawk, so the best thing is to Just Defend then Guard Cancel to Messhou Hisetsu! ============= Kim Jae Hoon: ============= Will, Jae Hoon is kind of those who like to do damage a lot. Everything is damaging with him... but still the same method with Jenet work with him as well. I will paste them for you and add some other methods (I will always do that). You can repeat doing Kokuen Ryuu + C all the time and he will welcome every hit with open arms. He will not defend that much, just keep doing Kokuen Ryuu. When you get a counter hit, do Kokuen Ryuu again. If you corner him, backward twice and again with the Kokuen Ryuu. Another method is you can use Gou Dangai for lots of counter hits to do damaging combos. Do Gou Dangai when he is about to move, I mean you are not a fortune-teller, but you could see him when he walks or performs anything, if he does anything, do Gou Dangai. If you do Gou Dangai and he defends it, do it again after some time to make him make a move or you could use Majin Haten Dan when you see him moves after you do Gou Dangai. You could corner him for many damaging combination attacks. Also, the Kyou Chou Jin then Messhou Hisetsu method can work as well. do Kyou Chou-Jin + A while you are close and continue with Messhou Hisetsu and do both over and over again! If Jae Hoon gets cornered, then continue the Kyou Chou-Jin + A with Messhou Hisetsu + B and he gets a little be far then Messhou Hisetsu + D. He will most of the time defend and then not! You do not have anything to lose, so on with the fun. Do it over and over until you knock him down. If you do any mistake, most of the time Jae Hoon will perform Hien Zan and sometimes he screws around by doing AB then Hien Zan then stops it by AB then Houyoku Tenshou Kyaku. Not a combo, but oh well! Here you could master the match by using your Normal Attacks. He pretty much gets angry with them and tries to screw around. So, you could start with the standing As and Bs to corner him and dash and then do another As and Bs. If you feel that you are getting far from him then use you distance C to hit him and not make him jump. Also, when he is about to jump then you could hit him with either jump A or jump C. Those are really good and have good invincbilities. Until you corner him, here you could do anything to shut him up. Go always with you most damaging combos (see the Combo Section). Be careful when you jump though, he is always ready to do Hien Zan. So, the Just Defend and Guard Cancel will be pretty much of a good thing to you. Do not keep a distance between the both of you. Attack and attack with your Normal Attacks until he you knock him down. Only watch yourself when you jump because he does many different things when you jump, like Hien Zan, air C, Hishou Kyaku or even Shakka Shuu. Why not? He got pretty much confused so he has to do something fishy in order to stop your heavy attacks! Jae Hoon is the type of characters that you really want to kick them fast! Terry and some others are pathetic so you could just kick them whenever you want, but Jae Hoon is not! His Special Moves and Super Moves do a lot of damage! He uses almost all his Special Moves (including Hangetsu Zan and Ryuusei Raku) and Super Moves (including Houou Kyaku), so you need to be fast and not give him a chance to do anything fishy! Also, do not bother with trading with him because you want the triple S, so you need to be straight with him and kick him very hard! Use the Just Defend whenever you get any surprising attack and ALWAYS Guard Cancel. If you are not that good with either then use your Normal Attacks because they are the key to almost everything (if you want to be good with the Just Defend and Guard Cancel then see the Just Defend & Guard Cancel Section)! He will then go down easily... do not get me wrong, he is easy to beat, but not easier than Terry. Terry is one of the easiest characters to beat. Jae Hoon just gives you a lot of damage! ============== Kim Dong Hwan: ============== Dong Hwan is not like his brother. Some methods do not work against him because he could attack with Kuu Sa Jin. Anyway, on with it for further demonstration. This method works against all of them but I need to mention so that nobody would ask where and why! Also, the Kyou Chou Jin then Messhou Hisetsu method can work as well. do Kyou Chou-Jin + A while you are close and continue with Messhou Hisetsu and do both over and over again! If Dong Hwan gets cornered, then continue the Kyou Chou-Jin + A with Messhou Hisetsu + B and he gets a little be far then Messhou Hisetsu + D. He will most of the time defend and then not! You do not have anything to lose, so on with the fun. Do it over and over until you knock him down. If you do any mistake, most of the time Dong Hwan will perform Kuu Sa Jin or Raimei Dan! Now watch out when you want to use Gou Dangai, because most of the times you will get beaten up by his Kuu Sa Jin! And it does a lot of damage. But you could use your Normals in here as well. You could do some crouching As and then distance C... he will take the hit! You could jump and press the D button early so that you could hit his Kuu Sa Jin if he performs it, and if not then he will welcome the hit and you could keep on with the damaging combos. Just remember that jumps a lot for no good reason so you need sometime to jump straight up and then C! That should do it. Also, when you are hit enough (you should not be), then gain some life by the Just Defense! Jump and he will perform either Kuu Sa Jin or Raimei Dan, Just Defend either of them and then Guard Cancel to Messhou Hisetsu. Also, you can do the Majin Gan as much as you because he does not defend anything at all. His Normal Attacks are pretty much weak compared to yours, so you should keep this in mind, ladies and gentlemen! The best thing to do is to keep attacking him from everywhere. Also, you have the Majin Gan, so if you are not that good with the Guard Cancel then you can be good at Guard Cancel with this since it just needs you to push C+D to activate it! Dong Hwan is the type of characters who mash endlessly for no reason. He just does Raimei Zan, Hishou Kyaku, Super Dong Hwan Kyaku and Raimei Dan. He jumps and push D early also for no reason. His pattern is pretty much as stupid as Kevin's! Stupid enough! =========== Kevin Rian: =========== Kevin's pattern is the most idiotic pattern I have ever seen in any game, I must say! Many methods work with him because he acts like a cat! On with it... If Kevin gets cornered, then continue the Kyou Chou-Jin + A with Messhou Hisetsu + B and he gets a little be far then Messhou Hisetsu + D. He will most of the time defend and then not! You do not have anything to lose, so on with the fun. Do it over and over until you knock him down. He does not defend your Majin Gan at all. So you can do it over and over again until you knock him down. If he defends it by luck then do it again. If he still defends it, then that is for the best. Basically, Kevin gets very happy when you give him a chance to attack. Corner him with your standing As and Bs, he will try to attack back, but that will help him doing anything than getting hit. You could easily corner him with your standing As and Bs, if he by any measn performs his stupid Special Move, Creeper or Abide Mine to get away, fast do Majin Engetsu Rin to punish him. When you jump, do not give a damn about what he does (like standing C or Hell Rotor), jump jump and push D and it will eat anything he performs. Then proceed with a very harmful combination attach, like, Kyou Chou-Jin, AB, Ma Heki, Ma Heki, Ma Heki, Ma Heki, "anything"! And if you get any Counter Hit, then do not just mash, continue with anything painful. You have a lot of combination attack in the Combos Section, so look for the best and use it to knock him out. This battle should be finished in less than ten seconds in each round. So, do not waste a lot of time with him. Just beat him and finish everything once and for all. Kevin is very kind, because he just mashes without knowing what is good or bad for him... like Dong Hwan. He uses almost ever move, like, Hell Rotor (and even cancel it), Hell Trap, Creeper, Gattling Freezer, Lucky Strike! But even so, you still can beat the crap out of him, because your Normal Attacks eat everything he does, and I mean everything. His Normal Attacks, Special Moves and Super Moves are a big waste of time against Grant! You could always punish him for his mistake. Also, if your Normal Attacks did not hit him, then most likely you will trade hits! Even if you trade hits, when you look up, you will find that he is already down to half life, because you take way more damage than he does. Whenever he is about to jump, always use your distance C to kick him hard. He will never do anything and still take the hit. If you want to have fun I advice you to Just Defend everything his does and Guard Cancel to Gou Dangai then with a Counter Hit you could continue with the Majin Haten Dan. Nasty, eh? Well, that is about it I guess! =========== Hokutomaru: =========== Hokutomaru is really fun to play against. Anyway, Kokuen Ryuu method does not work on him because whenever you use it he will always perform Rakka Zan Jitsu and beat you! But there are some other methods. You can use Gou Dangai + D for lots of counter hits to do damaging combos. If Hokutomaru gets cornered, then continue the Kyou Chou-Jin + A with Messhou Hisetsu + B and he gets a little be far then Messhou Hisetsu + D. Hokutomaru is the kind of characters who uses different strategies for different ways to beat you, but he is still just a stupid CPU! You can use the easiest method of all, which is, jump D, crouching A, A, distance C! He will welcome everything with an open smile! So, he is combo friendly! Also, if you want to force him to do his Kyuukyoku Ougi Chou Bakuen Tatsumaki, the jump low from a distance or high from a mid- range! He will surely perform it, and if he does not, then try over and over again. When he performs it, Just Defend and then Guard Cancel to Messhou Hisetsu. Also, do not forget that he is one of those that you always to play against because Just Defend and Guard Cancel works a lot against him since he has many different types of Special Moves and Super Moves that do a lot of hits. So you better be good with the Guard Cancel and Just Defend to gain a lot of life here. The CPU is too stupid to finish the Chou Bakuen Kunai, take that chance and Just Defend the whole hits, pretty much good. Moreover, he his recovery is too slow when he performs any Special Move or Super Move, so you can get him with you good strategy! Hokutomaru likes to play from a distance and jump a lot. When he goes backward, he only thinks of three things, 1)Throw some Shurikens. 2)Jump. 3)Perform Rakka Zan Jitsu! His Shurikens are pathetic and can be kicked right away, or yet for the better Just Defend them to gain life! If he jumps, use any anti-air attack or punish him with your Gou Dangai and if you get a Counter Hit then fast do the Majin Haten Dan. If he performs Rakka Zan Jitsu, you have got two great options here, 1)Block, because he will have to recover. Then Punish him painfully! 2)Just Defend and Guard Cancel to Majin Haten Dan or Gou Dangai and if you have a Counter Hit then continue with the Majin Haten Dan! When he gets cornered, he will be nothing but a frog. You can eat him alive. He cannot do anything special other than mashing and letting you do any combination attack on him. I bet he will smile for it. ^_^ Anyway, that is about... remember one thing, You are all in for a big pain, so you should let him feel while you are at it. Best of luck...! ======== Freeman: ======== Freeman is a poor guy who more worthless than Terry. He can do nothing against Grant. All and I mean ALL THE METHODS work on him. Yeah, I will list them and comment further more about his gameplay and pattern! When the match starts, you could kill Freeman easily by only your distance C, it can end the match in not time. Just focus and wait, when he performs Nightmare, or jump or dashes to you, just do distance C. It will eat anything and still beat the crap out of him. Sometimes he gets angry and performs Full Blast, Just Defend it and Guard Cancel it to anything and punish him. This is pretty much for fun and to test your reaction. You have some sure options to win the match. First, just jump straight up like a crazy and push D whenever Freeman comes to you. Freeman will not be able to do anything at all. He will welcome the hit every time and eat it until he painfully dies. He will unleash Creeping Death sometimes, but he will not get you with it since you have Messhou Hisetsu, if you feel like you mashed and the Creeping Death will hit you while you are in the air, fast do Messhou Hisetsu! It will be a crossup and he will not be able to get you with it... it will save you. If Freeman gets cornered, then continue the Kyou Chou-Jin + A with Messhou Hisetsu + B and he gets a little be far then Messhou Hisetsu + D. He will most of the time defend and then not! You do not have anything to lose, so on with the fun. Do it over and over until you knock him down. Another method is you can always jump with the D, he will welcome everything and get beaten easily by your combos. You could do crouching As for a start and then distance C. He will not defend your distance C most of the time. Just jump over and over again, if he defends then jump again if not then eat his a very damaging combo (see the Combos Section). He will not surprise you with anything. Actually he will surprise you with one thing, and that is, he is nothing to write home about. Pretty much weak. He does not defend your Majin Gan "that much". So you can do it over and over again until you knock him down. If he defends it then do it again. If he still defends it, then that is for the best. Well, ladies and gentlemen. Freeman the CPU is crap and cannot match with Grant. Actually Freeman played my either the human or the CPU cannot do anything special to write home about. Grant has a big advantage over him and can battle with him either on the ground or in the wide air and still can kick the crap out of him. Freeman combos are not that special and the CPU cannot do any because he will not have a chance to do so. He will die in less than ten seconds in each round. The thing is, Freeman's pattern is pretty basic, I do not think he can be tough against anyone. The CPU seems to stink with him and the CPU cannot be any good I guess. Moreover, some of Freeman's Special Moves have a very bad recovery! He is combo friendly and a big target for anyone that wants to try some new combination attack he or she just learned! That said, Freeman only chance or mock and then bye-bye. Well, that is about it, ladies and gentlemen. Ahh, one more thing, if you beat Freeman so hard and make his life bar so little, he will most of the time go crazy and repeat performing his Special Move, Nightmare! I do not know why he does that everytime I kick him so hard, but if you do then tell me! Better yet, knock him down to end his pain and suffering. I think may be because he is suffering! ^_^ ===== Gato: ===== Gato is a fast character that does not stop no matter how many times you knock him down. There are some methods that work with him. But not as many as Freeman does! ^_^ You have some sure options to win the match. First, just jump straight up like a crazy and push D whenever Gato comes to you. Gato will not be able to do anything at all. He will welcome the hit every time and eat it until he painfully dies. He will unleash Tatsu Kiba sometimes, but he will not get you with it since you have Messhou Hisetsu, if you feel like you mashed and the Tatsu Kiba will hit you while you are in the air, fast do Just Defend everything and then Guard Cancel the last hit to Messhou Hisetsu! It will save you. Better yet if it is a Counter Hit so that you could do anything after it. Actually he will surprise you with one thing, and that is, sometimes he does Rai Ga, so you have to do the jump D early to beat it or just Just Defend and Guard Cancel to Messhou Hisetsu! He does not defend your Majin Gan at all. So you can do it over and over again until you knock him down. If he defends it by luck then do it again. If he still defends it, then that is for the best. A new method around is just stand still and wait for him. He will walk to you and then do standing A, Shin Ga, Tsuika Kougeki. You can test yourself now with the good reaction. Just Defend them then Guard Cancel to anything that comes to your mind. This a very hard one, it depends on you... how do you react with such thing! Hope you are up to it. ^_^ Gato is just the guy who likes to show his skills to you to surprise you, but on the other hand he is nothing compared to you. You will surprise him more with your strategy. He like to run a lot and perform Rai Ga whenever you jump... or better yet, Tatsu Kiba. And on the ground he like to do standing A, Shin Ga, Tsuika Kougeki! Or Zero Kiba, sometimes! Also, for no good reason he performs Houzan Sai Hekiga sometimes. No problem, relax. He is just as STUPID as the others so you should take advantage of this fight. Get near him and know his pattern or let him perform or do anything he likes to do. Make him happy and let him have fun while he still can... you also could have fun by doing Just Defend whenever he does anything to you. And when you feel like "OHHH, I'VE HAD IT WITH YOU!" Dash, jump, use all you Normal Attacks endlessly, attack him from everywhere, kick him hard with your Special Moves, Super Moves and combination attacks. Just EAT HIM ALIVE! Do not let him have a tiny distance between you, let him get mad and try his best! Well, the CPU is so stupid to be so! ====== Tizoc: ====== Poor, poor, Tizoc. Grant has one big advantage over Tizoc so what can the CPU do if Tizoc used by humans can't? You have some sure options to win the match. First, just jump straight up like a crazy and push D whenever Tizoc comes to you. Tizoc will not be able to do anything at all. He will welcome the hit every time and eat it until he painfully dies. He will unleash Olympus Over sometimes, but he will not get you with it since you have Messhou Hisetsu, if you feel like you mashed and the Olympus Over will hit you while you are in the air, fast do Just Defend everything and then Guard Cancel the last hit to Messhou Hisetsu! It will save you. Better yet if it is a Counter Hit so that you could do anything after it. Sometime he defends it and tries to do Justice Hurricane when you want to do another Kokuen Ryuu. Poor, poor, Tizoc. ^_^ Another method is you can use Gou Dangai for lots of counter hits to do damaging combos. Just jump over and over again, if he defends then jump again if not then eat his a very damaging combo. He will not surprise you with anything. Sweet Tizoc is one of the fellas that jumps a lot when you do standing A. So be ready for a good anti-air Special Move, Normal Attack or Super Move. Great Tizoc is a pretty powerful character because his throws are so damaging and he is one hell of a grappler. He is my favorite grappler in all fighting games (along with Yamada), but his main problem is Grant because he cannot get near him no matter what. I will talk more in the Vs. Human below. Now with the CPU. The CPU likes to grab, so do not let him get near you. Follow the written strategies or do anything you could do. His Justice Hurricane does a lot of damage. He sometimes Just Defends your mistakes and Guard Cancel to Justice Hurricane or better yet Big Fall Tizoc (he did Daedalus Attack with me a long time ago)! Some be really careful. Do not waste your time on jumping and doing Messhou Hisetsu because you are just making him think of grabing and that is not a very good idea. Also, he sometimes does Olympus Over for no reason (when he is stuck), or Active Tupon! Here, you can punish him with any mistake he does. He also surprisingly like to use Hercules Throw, though he cannot do much with it. He is one strange fella, but a cool one. ^_^ =============== Khushwood Butt: =============== Ryo's student seems not much of a student when we talking going up againt the CPU! Anyway, on with it... let us see the methods to beat the crap out of him... Also, the Kyou Chou Jin then Messhou Hisetsu method can work as well. do Kyou Chou-Jin + A while you are close and continue with Messhou Hisetsu and do both over and over again! Just jump over and over again, if he defends then jump again if not then eat his a very damaging combo. He will not surprise you with anything. He does not defend your Majin Gan "that much". So you can do it over and over again until you knock him down. If he defends it then do it again. If he still defends it, then that is for the best. Butt is another one of the fellas that jumps a lot when you do standing A. So be ready for a good anti-air Special Move, Normal Attack or Super Move. Butt is a shoto character, so you have to be ready for his Kou Ken and when you jump, Ko Hou. Sometimes jumps D crouching C, Kou Ken and when you Just Defend all of them he continues with Hien Shippu Kyaku! Butt likes to use Kyokugen Ko Hou a lot, so jump and let him perform it to Just Defend it and Guard Cancel it to Messhou Hisetsu. Also he likes to use the Ryuuko Ranbu when you trade hits a lot. And he REALLY likes doing crouching AB a lot of times. You could Just Defend all the crap he does, and Guard Cancel to punish him. Also, you could jump when he is cornered because he gets pretty confused when he is cornered. He also likes to AB when you crouch... and better yet, jump! Anyway, a shoto is not that good compared to Grant. Since there is Just Defend and Guard Cancel, everything will be easy. And since your Normal Attacks are so unmatched, you could beat him easily. Just be careful, his crouching AB has some invincibility at the very start, so do not mash your standing A a lot, but react with your standing AB to kick him hard. That's about it with Butt. ====== Grant: ====== An invincible difficulty for most players. Well, he takes a lot of damage but still, you have Grant and you think better than the stupid CPU! Before I go on with the methods, I just want to thank SNK for the great bosses that we are seeing in the Fatal Fury games. From Geese to Kain. All of them are really great and Grant is a very great sub-boss. Thanks SNK for not screwing my favorite Fatal Fury games like you did with the K.O.F. series (from 99... and with 97). Also, the Kyou Chou Jin then Messhou Hisetsu method can work as well. do Kyou Chou-Jin + A while you are close and continue with Messhou Hisetsu and do both over and over again! He does not defend your Majin Gan "that much". So you can do it over and over again until you knock him down. If he defends it then do it again. If he still defends it, then that is for the best. Grant is also another one of the fellas that jumps or crouches AB a lot when you do standing A. So be ready for a good anti-air Special Move, Normal Attack or Super Move. When Grant is cornered, he gets pretty much confused. You can jump with the D, he will welcome everything and get beaten easily by your combos. You could do crouching As for a start and then distance C. He will not defend your distance C most of the time. Just jump over and over again, if he defends then jump again if not then eat his a very damaging combo. He will not surprise you with anything. Grant is a powerful character indeed. He does A LOT of damage. He has the original color of his outfit that you cannot choose. Also, he can do a lot of damage, unlike you. You must not do any mistakes here. You job is to get it done by following what I said above. If you jump when he is not cornered, he will most of the time perform Kyou Chou Jin or does standing As. And if he has some Power Stocks, he could continue with his Majin Haten Dan after the As, if you Just Defended them, that is! He uses everything he has, even his Gou Retsu Shou. He does some combos as well, like, Gou Retsu Shou then Majin Haten Dan. If you mash near him, he could get you with his Majin Engetsu Rin. Be really careful here. Do not perform Kokuen Ryuu from a close range, because he will beat you with his Kyou Chou Jin and continue with Messhou Hisetsu! Yeah, know what you are doing before you go against him! So do not from a distance. Also, do not do Gou Dangai with him because he could use the same thing and still beat you. But you could use it when he jumps and dashes! Or after the Guard Cancel! You know, the usual stuff! And do not forget that he could crush your guard with only three Majin Gans! Anyway, He is a good character to play against. So, you should have a lot fun with him. You could parctice (to have fun) your Just Defend and Guard Cancel skills with him! And forget to throw him, because he will not let you unless you are lucky to throw him once for a mistake. As for a direct normal throw, no way in blue hell. I advice you not to be cheap here and play with one boring -yawn- strategy. You could have fun here a lot. Okay, do not worry about your life bar, you will trade hits sometimes and when you look at your life bar and then look at his life bar, you will just see the difference between both of you! ^_^ But that does not mean anything, he is a sub-boss, so his Normal Attacks, Special Moves and Super Moves should do a lot of damage. So, you have to use the Just Defend to gain some life back, right? If it is too hard for you, then go fish! You should read the Just Defend and Guard Cancel Section again. That is why I put the "How To Play Again the CPU (or human)" after the strategy, Just Defend and Guard Cancel, and Combos Section... so that you could be well-informed about everything and you are now up to the beat 'em up! ^_^ ================= Kain R. Heinlein: ================= Another poor fella. He is a very good looking boss and has a very good Normal Attacks, Special Moves and Super Moves... but everything can be Just Defended in no time. Poor, poor, fella. You can always play with him without using the Just Defense system to know your good stuff! On with it... You can repeat doing Kokuen Ryuu + C (be sure to do it when he falls) all the time and he will welcome every hit with open arms. He will not defend that much, just keep doing Kokuen Ryuu. When you get a counter hit, do Kokuen Ryuu again. If you corner him, backward twice and again with the Kokuen Ryuu. Also, the Kyou Chou Jin then Messhou Hisetsu method can work as well. do Kyou Chou-Jin + A while you are close and continue with Messhou Hisetsu and do both over and over again! He does not defend your Majin Gan "that much". So you can do it over and over again until you knock him down. If he defends it then do it again. If he still defends it, then that is for the best. When Kain is cornered, he gets pretty much confused. Kain is powerful due to the fact that he can have full T.O.P. bar after the first round you beat him up. Everything becomes so damaging. The above methods work pretty much on him. Kain's main problem is the Just Defend. You could jump and he will either perform Schwarze Lanze or wait until you land and then does standing D. Either way, you should Just Defend and then Guard Cancel to anything to punish him. If you are so close to him and you begin to trade hits, he will be angry enough to unleash his Super Move, Himmlische Seele. He also like to throw when you turtle... and performs Himmlischer Atem for no reason. Sometimes if you jump backward early and push any button (D or C most likely), he will perform Himmlischer Atem. He does not jump that much. He performs Schwarze Flamme whenever you perform Kokuen Ryu. So you need to do Kokuen Ryu after he falls down. Also, if he defends your Gou Dangai, most of the times he will defend or perform Schwarzer Panzer! And when you have a very little life bar, he likes to go for Schwarzer Stob. Remember that doing Schwarzer Stob three times could crush your guard. That is about it. ====================================================== ---------------------- Questions And Answers: ---------------------- This section is for those who E-Mailed me and asked about a thing or two. Instead of E-Mailing them back, I will answer here so that nobody would ask the same questions again. ============= H. Al-Yagoot: ============= Q: Hey, there! I have been trying to beat the CPU with Grant but I do not seem to have the lady luck beside me. May you tell me how to beat the CPU? - A: Since when you use Grant, stud? the easiest way to beat the CPU is to always attack and use the Normal Attacks so that you could make the CPU in the corner and then win easily by the combos I wrote above. If the CPU performed any Special Move or Super Move, then try to use the Just Defend and then Guard Cancel... but this is hard for you. ^_^ So keep with the save method... Normal Attacks and then Super moves. The CPU is pretty damn easy so do not bother think that the CPU would do the Just Defense. Good luck, button masher. ===== Raed: ===== Q: At last not fast you wrote the F.A.Q! I have been nagging for so long to do so. Anyway, my question is: "Do you think that Grant the CPU is the strong version and why if yes?" - A: Huh! Not you again... Roro! Well, I wrote it because I like this character but yes, it has been long and should of wrote about it from a long time. And Grant the CPU has the upper hand because his Normal Attacks, Special Moves and Super Moves are more or let me say way damaging, not to mention he has the original outfit (dark red) that you cannot choose. But as for if Grant the CPU is harder than the human, no way in blue hell. Grant used by human is so scary and way tougher and greater than the CPU. The CPU is stupid, unlike the human... so smart and could finish you off in a flash. May be he takes less damage but still, all his Normal Attacks, Special Moves and Super Moves are tough. Anyone who say otherwise should be buried alive. ===== LWOS: ===== Q: Terry is tough and I have no troubles defeating all the guys here. Why did you make him sound so weak? - A: I never said this or that is weak, did I? I said Grant can own the match with Terry and the match should be less tougher than it is with Gato! Terry does not really have what it takes to take out all Grant's invincible attacks, right? If Terry is going to attack Grant with his air attacks, then that would be a complete waste of good time and should lead him to his very sure death. He could do a thing or two with his Power Wave, but that is not enough too. Grant is a powerhouse if we talk about the invinciblity and goodness of the Normal Attacks... and Terry is the same with his Special Moves. But Terry lacks good Super Moves... his Power Geyser is crap and could be Just Defended in no time. Also, it just does not add a thing to Terry. And his Buster Wolf is the same with a very bad lag and no invinciblity at all. Even Rock's crouching B can break it. Unlike Grant who has every good reason to make him victorious. The question now is: "What is Terry really capable of doing against someone who has invincible attacks and Super Moves?" Not to mention he can Just Defend everything you do and Guard Cancel to Super Moves? Terry is good, but Grant is better. ====== Tariq: ====== Q: You did not write his infinities... why? - A: Because someone mentioned them in Fatal Fury: Mark of the Wolves FAQs. I only write what I know... I cannot look here and there and then copy and paste. And I am too lazy to ask the fellas to make me write them in here. Got it, Tarooq? ^_^ ======= Lord B: ======= Q: Can I ask about "How To Play Against" this or that? - A: I answered this very question many times but oh well. Yes, I do write and you can ask, but I wait for the people to ask and then do so. I cannot just write for nothing... I have a life you know. And stop using my sweet nickname, Easa! =========== Chris Adam: =========== Q: Thank you for your "great" F.A.Q., Basel. I have a request, and I hope you can help me since you seem to be more into depth and in the game. May you please be kind enough to explain to me the "Just Defense" and "Guard Cancel" system? I read all the F.A.Qs and there is nothing much to write home about. I read your F.A.Q. and you mentioned them both in almost everything like they are really "something"! I am pretty good with Grant but I want to be feared by all (funny, eh? :) You strategy is almost like mine but yours seems more powerful because of that system. I hope you have the time to tell me so that I could improve my Grant more and more... thanks! - A: Of course I will write everything about it right away, Mr. Adam! Many e-mailed me to ask about it, but I was not that interested to talk about it because they all have other favorite characters... and as you can see, this F.A.Q. is only for Grant so I needed someone else. Since you like him too, then I will gladly do so. I hope it will make you better and more powerful. Read in the Just Defend and Guard Cancel section! ^_^ ====================================================== --------------- Last Word: --------------- Okay, Finally... it is finished. Hope I was helpful and useful to you. If anybody wants to use anything, by all means do so, but tell me so first before you do that. And if anybody have any doubts about any combination attack or cannot perform any, kindly, E-Mail me and I will explain it more clearly to you. Remember, do not stick with the rules a lot... Screw The Rules. --------------- Special Thanks: --------------- 1)To SNK for this very great game. 2)To Gamefaqs. 3)To all Grant's fans. 4)To all my friends for the encouragement. ======================================================= Fatal Fury: Mark of the Wolves is Copyright SNK Corporation and.
