PAGE 14 ======= The Mana Drive on the back of an FG holds four Liberate Stones. The power these Stones provide is called "Liberate Force". Liberate Stones allow you to change elemental attributes and augment your Squires' capabilities, among other things. Liberate Stones are generally divided into three categories. Elemental Shifter: Gives your FG the power of Fire, Water, Wind, or Earth. Magic Source: Upgrades your FG with an increase in attack power, defensive power, etc. Squire Controller: Gives various powers to your Squires. How The Elements Relate To Each Other Fire is strong against Wind, weak against Earth Water is strong against Earth, weak against Wind Wind is strong against Water, weak against Fire Earth is strong against Fire, weak against Water COLOR ALTERATION Changes the color of your FG. Select your favorite from among the colors provided for you. You are given a total of 16 choices: 15 colors + a colorless (Metal) scheme. Use the Directional Pad to select a color, then press the A Button to accept. PAGE 15 ======= SQUIRE Here you can choose the Squire(s) you want and determine the order in which they will be released. Press up/down on the Directional Pad to select a Squire Setup Window; press left/right to select one of your Squires. During a battle, Squires are released in the order they have been chosen, from top to bottom. To remove a Squire, select a window by pressing up/down on the Directional Pad and press the A Button. Each Squire requires a certain amount of energy, which reduces your FG's available Liberate Force. If the amount of your FG's Liberate Force is negative (displayed in red), you will be unable to battle or save your game. Press the Y Button to display the Squire List. You can select a Squire even when the list is displayed. BATTLE Select a Landmark and enter your choice to begin a battle. During a battle, equipment and Squires that are destroyed are completely eliminated, but items that are only damaged have their status regenerated afterward. <> INABILITY TO BATTLE You will be unable to begin a battle if either of the following conditions exists for your selected Cavalier (Frame). 1) There are un-equipped parts. (Excludes the Heavy-Armored Cavalier's shield) 2) There is insufficient Liberate Force. (LF value displayed in red) Changing your Frame, equipment, or Squire(s) will allow you to battle. If you are short of equipment, you will need to make more with the Material Fusion process. PAGE 16 ======= MATERIAL FUSION Here you can make use of the Material gems that you have collected. Press left/right on the Directional Pad to select a Reactor (fusion furnace), then press up/down to select the desired Material. If you only have one of a certain Material, but select it in both Reactors, it will be displayed translucently in the second Reactor; you will only be able to use it in one Reactor or the other. When two Material are prepared for the fusion process, the item parameters are displayed along with the equipment or Squire to be synthesized. Press the A Button to begin the fusion process. Certain items that cannot be destroyed-- Guns, Swords, Cannon, and Liberate Stones--cannot be made more than once. The fused Material will disappear once the process is complete. Press the Y Button to display the Material List. You can select a Material gem even when the list is displayed. (The B Button returns you to the previous screen.) There are 13 types of Material altogether. Some of them are extremely hard to find, but they enable you to create rare equipment and Squires. The easiest way to create something is to select it from one of the itemized lists and enter your choice with the A Button. When you return to the Material fusion screen you will notice that the Material gems required to make that item are already set up inside the Reactors. TRAINING This mode allows you to freely battle an enemy character. While you are able to destroy equipment and Squires in this mode, they will not provide you with any additional Material gems. PAGE 17 ======= ARCHIVES <> SAVE/LOAD GAME DATA Use the Directional Pad to highlight the VMU you wish to access and press the A Button. Next, use the Directional Pad to highlight the data you wish to save/load and press the A Button. Select NEW to save in an unused file. It is also possible to overwrite a previously saved game. <> INABILITY TO SAVE You will be unable to save your game if either of the following conditions exist for your selected Cavalier (Frame). 1) There are un-equipped parts. (Excludes the Heavy-Armored Cavalier's shield) 2) There is insufficient Liberate Force. (LF value displayed in red) Changing your Frame, equipment, or Squire(s) will allow you to save your game. If you are short of equipment, you will need to make more with the Material Fusion process. * To save a file, you will need a memory card (Visual Memory Unit [sold separately]). * While saving or loading a game file, DO NOT turn off the Dreamcast console's power, remove the VMU, or disconnect the controller(s) or other accessories. <> BATTLE RECORDS The Battle Records allow you to look up the name of your knight and Cavalier; the number of matches you've won/played; the amount of equipment and Squires you currently possess/the total number of items; Command Point status--the amount of points earned by your Squire(s) in battle. These are added into your Liberate Force rating. PAGE 18 ======= III.
