Giant Gram 2000: All Japan PRo Wrestling 3: Brave Men Of Glory Historic Mode Guide/FAQ By Don Becker (gg2kfaq@donbecker.org) with lots of help - see below. Version 1.0, August 24, 2000 REVISION HISTORY v0.01, 8/12/2000 - First version - four translations. v0.02, 8/14/2000 - First revision - added explanation of Kobashi/Akiyama vs. Ohmori/Takayama, plus all sorts of match translations v1.0, 8/24/2000 - Translations finished, terms defined. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= 1.) What is Historic Mode? Historic Mode is a mode of gameplay unique to Giant Gram 2000 (it's the second option from the main menu). In it, you literally step into the history of All Japan Pro Wrestling, as you re-enact some of the classic matches in the promotion's storied history. You are given percentage points based on which moves you do at a given point in the match. Score above 80%, and you unlock various features and characters. Press Y on any completed match to view highlights of the match itself. 2.) What matches can you re-enact? - Giant Baba vs. Stan Hansen, February 4, 1982 - Jumbo Tsuruta & Giant Baba vs. Stan Hansen & Bruiser Brody, April 20, 1982 - Jumbo Tsuruta vs. Stan Hansen, February 18, 1989 - Mitsuharu Misawa vs. Jumbo Tsuruta, June 8, 1990 - Mitsuharu Misawa vs. Stan Hansen, March 5, 1994 - Mitsuharu Misawa & Kenta Kobashi vs. Toshiaki Kawada & Akira Taue, December 9, 1995 - Toshiaki Kawada vs. Mitsuharu Misawa, January 22, 1999 - Mitsuharu Misawa vs. Vader, May 2, 1999 - Jun Akiyama vs. Takao Ohmori, September 4, 1999 - Kenta Kobashi & Jun Akiyama vs. Takao Ohmori & Yoshihiro Takayama, October 30, 1999 - Jun Akiyama vs. Mitsuharu Misawa, February 27, 2000 - Kenta Kobashi vs. Vader, February 27, 2000 3.) OK, so what's so special about each of these matches? - Baba vs. Hansen: Stan Hansen's first singles match with All Japan Pro Wrestling. Hansen had worked for New Japan Pro Wrestling up until that point, and Hansen switching promotions was huge, since wrestlers generally didn't switch promotions in Japan as they do in the States. - Tsuruta/Baba vs. Hansen/Brody: The biggest tag match of the early 1980's. Baba and Tsuruta were All Japan's most popular native workers, while Hansen and Brody were the most respected gaijin (foreign) workers. - Tsuruta vs. Hansen: Tsuruta, reigning NWA International champion, fought Hansen, reigning NWA United National champion and PWF Heavyweight champion, in a title-for-titles bout at the Budokan. This match unified the three belts into what is currently known as the Triple Crown. - Misawa vs. Tsuruta: This was the traditional "passing the torch" match, as the younger Misawa finally scored a pinfall victory over the veteran Misawa. The announcer screams "New Hero!" after the victory, and Misawa goes on to become All Japan's top heavyweight of the 1990's - Misawa vs. Hansen: On August 22, 1992, Misawa defeated Hansen to win the Triple Crown for the first time. This was a Misawa title defense, and is generally considered the best of the Misawa/Hansen bouts. - Misawa/Kobashi vs. Kawada/Taue: These four men were the top four heavyweights in All Japan throughout the 90's, with 12 Triple Crown title reigns between them. This particular match was the ninth tag team match between these two teams, and was the final match of the 1995 Real World Tag League tournament. - Kawada vs. Misawa: The infamous "Kawadadriver" match - during the course of this bout, Misawa tried to counter a Kawada powerbomb with a hurricanrana. Kawada countered the hurricanrana by dropping to his knees, sending Misawa head first into the mat, in what is generally considered the most brutal move in professional wrestling history. During the course of this bout, where Kawada defeated Misawa for his third Triple Crown, Kawada broke his arm, and continued the match. - Misawa vs. Vader: This was the main event of the second (and most recent) Tokyo Dome show All Japan staged. Vader had come into the promotion less than eight months before this match and mauled his way to the Triple Crown, defeating Akira Taue for the vacant title in March. Misawa channeled the spirit of the great Giant Baba, who had passed away at the beginning of the year, and defeated the much larger Vader to win his fifth (and final) Triple Crown. - Akiyama vs. Ohmori: For the first time since Misawa's Triple Crown victory in 1992, a tour-ending show at the Budokan was headlined by someone other than the Big Four (Misawa, Kawada, Kobashi & Taue) or a huge gaijin (ie: Vader, Hansen, Steve Williams). The matches on the show were determined by fan balloting, and this matchup was voted as the main event. - Kobashi/Akiyama vs. Ohmori/Takayama: Voted the 1999 Tag Match Of The Year by Tokyo Sports. - Akiyama vs Misawa: Another "passing the torch" match, as the younger Akiyama scored his first pinfall victory ever over the veteran Misawa. Akiyama is now being touted as Pro Wrestling NOAH's top wrestler. - Kobashi vs. Vader: From the same show as Akiyama vs. Misawa, this was All Japan's most recent Triple Crown title change, and was also Kobashi's first pinfall over Vader. Since Vader arrived in All Japan, he feuded with Kobashi, sending him to the hospital on one occasion. This also set the stage for the Kobashi/Akiyama rivalry that continues to this day in Pro Wrestling NOAH. 4.) So how do I grapple, hammer throw, etc.? Most of these are basic moves that you might want to know just for general gameplay: - Grapple: When facing your opponent, press A. - Side grapple: From a grapple, press A while holding either up or down. - Back grapple: From a side grapple, press A once more. - Hammer throw: From a grapple, press the D-Pad/Arcade Stick towards your opponent and press B. - Corner hammer throw: A regular hammer throw done from near the corner. - Run: Either press the direction you wish to run twice, or press a direction and hit Y. - Tag: Press Y when near your partner. - United attack: After tagging your partner in, press X+Y or A+B or X+A or Y+B simulaneously. - Burning attack: With your spirit meter at MAX, press L+R simultaneously to go into Burning mode, then L+R once more to pull off your Burning Attack. 5.) I'm pressing Down & X at the same time - why won't Baba do his stomach kick? Well, you're not really supposed to press them at the same time. Hit the direction, then the button after you've released the D-Pad. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= TRANSLATIONS (first round): =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= In the first round, you need a score of 80% to pass. After passing a match, you can view video highlights from the actual match by pressing Y from the menu. - Giant Baba vs. Stan Hansen by Don Becker & AJ 187 1.
