Jet Set/Grind Radio Tag FAQ (European-Version) by Longinus Version 1.0 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Did you ever wanted to make your own tags on your PC and use them in the game?? It's possible, even without being connected to the internet! All you need is a PC, a Hexeditor (I use HexWorkshop from Break Point Software, you'll get it at www.bpsoft.com), DCI_VMI Converter (get it at www.franken.de/users/deco/myfiles/myfiles.htm) and a Nexus 4MB Memory Card (and of course the Software, download it at www.hkems.com)! Turn on your PC, paint and draw a picture and save it in JPEG format. Remember it only works in RGB-Mode. Now open your Image with the Hexeditor and do the following: 1.Insert the following bytes at the beginning of your image: 444B 2050 6963 7475 7265 2020 2020 2020 4472 6561 6D4B 6579 2020 2020 2020 2020 2020 2020 2020 2020 2020 2020 2020 2020 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0100 0100 0000 8D10 F726 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0DF3 1DF4 2DF5 3DF5 4DF6 5DF7 6DF8 7DF8 8EF9 9EFA AEFB BEFB CEFC DEFD EEFE FFFF 2222 2222 2222 2222 2222 2222 2222 2222 2222 2222 2222 2222 2222 2222 2222 2222 2226 DCCB A766 5443 2222 2222 2222 2222 2227 EBCD DFED CBA9 7655 4322 2222 2222 2239 E655 679A BCDE FDCC B976 6554 3222 2239 D622 2234 4566 79BB CDEE DCBA 9322 224A D622 2222 2222 2345 5677 ABCD C522 224A D522 2222 2222 2222 2222 345A D622 224B C522 2222 2222 2222 3222 224B C522 225B C522 2222 2222 2226 7422 224B C522 225C B522 2222 2222 226B C622 225B C522 225C B422 2222 2222 25AD EA42 225C B522 225C B422 2222 2222 5ADF FC72 225C B422 225D A422 2222 2223 9CDE EDA4 225D A422 226D A322 2222 2222 479A ABB6 226D A322 226D 9324 5544 4322 2233 4443 226D 9322 226E 9227 CCBB A962 2222 2222 226E 9222 226E 7237 DFFE EC93 2222 2222 226E 7222 227F 7237 DFFF FD93 2222 2222 227F 7222 227E 6237 DFFF FD93 2222 2222 227E 6222 229E 6237 CEEF FD93 2222 2222 239E 6222 239D 6225 9ABB CC73 2222 2364 23AD 6222 23AD 6222 3444 5542 2222 59DB 54AD 6222 24AD 5222 2222 2222 2247 BEEE B5BC 5222 24BC 5443 3222 2223 47AD EEEF E9BC 5222 24BD CBBA A977 7779 BEEE EFFE ECBC 5222 227A BCDE EEFF FFFE EEFF FFFF EECB 5222 2224 5567 9ABC DDEE EEFF FFFF FEDB 4222 2222 2222 3445 667A BCDE FFEE EEDA 4222 2222 2222 2222 2223 4566 79BC CDD9 3222 2222 2222 2222 2222 2222 2222 2222 2222 2222 2222 2222 2222 2222 2222 2222 2222 0000 F684 19D4 339F 5349 5A45 B726 0000 696D 6167 652F 6A70 6567 3B20 696D 6167 652E 6367 693F 4944 3D31 3330 3200 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 (Here start the bytes of your image) 2. Insert the following bytes at the end of your image: (Here end the bytes of your image) 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 00 I don't know if the second step is really necessary, but it works. Save your file and make a backup of it. Rename your file to Image.vms (of course what counts is the ending *.vms). Now convert your VMS file to a DCI file with the DCI_VMI Converter. When it asks you "ata File or ame File" press D for Datafile. At "Filename in VMU Directory" type DREAMKEY.P00, for your next image Dreamkey.P01 and so on. You can type anything at "VMI description"! Now you have a DCI-File and a VMI-File (which can be deleted; it is not important). Load the DCI-File to your Nexus-Card with the DC-Link Software! Now you can use your own pictures (they are marked with a DL) in the Game. The Size of your pictures is not important, but you should try to make them not to big because it doesn't look that good. The best rsolutions are: 128x128 for small tags 256x128 for large tags 512x128 for xl tags And your files should not be bigger than 60 KB! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ As I said this is for the European Version of Jet Set/Grind Radio. I don't know if it works with the US and the Japanese Version. Try it! If it doesn't work you can find out how to make your own tags yourself. Simply download a picture from the internet with your PC and then the same picture with your Dreamcast and save it on your Nexus! Get the DCI file and convert it back to a VMS file with the DCI2VMS Converter! Compare your Picture file on the PC and your VMS file in the Hexeditor and you will find the bytes you need to put in your own image files! So that's it! I hope you'll enjoy your own tags.
