Legal Stuff [LEG] ================================================================== ================================================================== 1. Introduction [INT01] -------------------------------- This used to be a FAQ for Area 5 (Play Mode) for the game Rez on Sega DreamCast and Sony PlayStation 2. I used to play Rez on the DreamCast but since it was the same game on both consoles, it didn't really mattered which console people were playing on. I wrote this FAQ for myself when I had a hard time getting everything in Area 5, mostly for the shot down and support items percentage. It was pretty short and written in words that I would understand quickly. I watched a video on Google Video to be able to see how to shoot every single enemy, where they are and where the support items are (and by which enemy they are dropped). I decided to do a more detailed version of it for the people who might need it (I read everywhere that some people are having trouble with this level). This FAQ was first written for personal use in French but since almost every gamer understand english (and most of them don't understand French), I did the complete version of it only in this language. Later on, Q! Entertainement announced that the game would be ported to Xbox Live Arcade on the Xbox 360, with HD visuals and 5.1 surround sound. Since I own this console, love this game and had a single Area FAQ in hand, I decided to get back to work to finally complete the whole thing to have the first rock solid Rez FAQ. It is also the first FAQ I write. I started a Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes (GameCube) Speed Run FAQ a while back, but I got bored and threw it away. I hope it helps you like it did for me! ================================================================== 2. Frequently Asked Questions [FAQ02] -------------------------------- Q) What is Rez? A) Rez is a musical on-rail shooter that focuses on a thing called synesthesia, a sensation obtained by combining different senses and stimuli. Under this sensation, you may be able to see sounds or hear colors. Some LSD users have reported to have had the same feeling. Q) On which consoles is it available? A) Rez is available on the Sega DreamCast and on the Sony PlayStation 2. Q) Which console has the best version? A) I haven't played the PS2 version yet so I don't really know. I've read that the PS2 version looks a little better, that it has 60 frame per second (versus 30 frame per second on the DreamCast) but that the frame rate drops sometimes. I've also read that the DreamCast version has VGA support. So, both versions seems pretty good to me anyway. As for the Xbox Live Arcade version on the Xbox 360, I don't know if it's truly better yet since the game is not out yet and that I don't have access to a preview version of the game, but since it was completely restored, I guess it's much better than the previous versions of Rez. Q) How do I get Area 5? A) Read below (in section 8a) Q) How many items are Unlockables and what are they? A) Take a look in the Unlockables and Secrets section of this FAQ. Q) How do I unlock this level/item? A) Just check out the Unlockables and Secrets section. It covers everything that you can unlock in the game, including levels and items. Q) What do I get for completing Area 5 with everything? A) Absolutely nothing. You sure get a new ending (the pink butterfly ending) for getting 100% shot down, but that's about it. Q) What's the text that is displayed after the game credits when you get 100% shot down on Area 5? A) "Your skill is legendary, only you know the real truth." Q) What's the Transvibrator peripheral? A) It's a little gadget that vibrate to the game's beat. It was sold in Japan for the PS2 version (thanks to samxx1x for the correct info on this one), but it also works on a North American PS2 version. Note that this peripheral works with Space Channel 5: Part 2. Q) What do I have to do in the Trancemission level? A) As far as I know, nothing except playing. It's a loop in which you can't die. Perfect for the players who are REALLY bad at this game. Q) What's Travelling Mode? A) It's the same as Play Mode except for the fact that you can't die. It is also a good choice to introduce new players to Rez. Q) Is the Transvibrator compatible with the Xbox 360 version? A) Even though the Transvibrator has a USB port, it won't work with the Xbox 360. For the ones who are sad to read this, know that the game will support a new feature that will let you plug 3 other controllers that will be only be used to vibrate. Q) What's new in the Xbox Live Arcade version? A) The game's graphics have been upgraded to High Definition (HD) and the game's audio is now available in 5.1 Surround sound. Like I mentioned it above, it also have a Transvibration mode with which you can plug three extra controllers that will only be used to vibrate (to compensate for the fact that the PS2 Transvibrator doesn't work on the Xbox 360). Finally, the game will have online leaderboards, letting you compete for the best scores against friends or anyone all around the world if you want. Q) I couldn't find the game at my video game store. Where can I get it? A) Sadly, it is the only "easy" option to get this game. Your only hope is called eBay (where you should find it quickly for the PS2). If you can't buy on eBay for any reason, the game will be available soon on Xbox Live Arcade for the Xbox 360. Q) Where can I get a Transvibrator? A) I highly doubt that you will find it at your local video game store so your best bet would be to buy it on eBay. Q) Is this game available for the PlayStation Network service? A) Nothing has been announced yet, but for now Rez is not available for PSN. Q) How am I supposed to beat this [any Area] boss? Q) How can I get all of those enemies killed without missing one? Q) What's the name of that song? I love it! A) Only one answer to those questions: READ THE FAQ! ================================================================== 3. Game Basics [BAS] -------------------------------- In this section, I'll explain all of the game's basics like the story, the controls and all of the things you should know before playing this game. Note that I've given names to some of the game's elements based on what I thought they were and not on what they might really be in reality. 3a. Story ------------------------ Coming soon. 3b. What's your goal in the game ------------------------ To make it simple, your goal is to survive through each Area, to open different level layers and to destroy a Boss. It sounds like it has already be done in video games and it might even sound boring, but it's the simple gameplay and the blending of multiple senses that makes this game a wonderful, undescriptible masterpiece (some even call it a "experience"). 3c. Controls ------------------------ Here are the controls for each console. Since I don't have Rez for the PlayStation 2, I can't be 100% sure of the exact controls (I'll try to get the exact ones soon). As for the Xbox Live Arcade version, I suppose that they'll be like what I've written but since the game's not out yet, I'll have to wait until it's available on Xbox 360's Marketplace to put the exact ones. DreamCast: ------------- Analog Stick/D-Pad: Aim A Button: Shoot B Button: Overdrive PlayStation 2: ------------- Analog Stick/D-Pad: Aim X Button: Shoot O Button: Overdrive Xbox 360 (XBLA): ------------- Analog Stick/D-Pad: Aim A Button: Shoot B Button: Overdrive 3d. Game Interface ------------------------ I will now explain all the HUD that you will have to deal with while you play. -Character: What you see in the middle of the screen that looks like a floating person is your character. It can evolve into many forms that I will explain right after the game interface. Each new form means that your character will look different, it'll shoot different type of projectile but also that you can be shot one more time before dying. -Crosshair: That big square in the middle of the screen is your crosshair. It is you used to aim your shots in the game (if a enemy is in it while you shoot, he'll receive a shot). If multiple enemies are in that crosshair, the shot will be given to the one that's closer to the X in the middle of the crosshair. You can also lock on multiple enemies, which will make the crosshair change. First of all, the number of beams that your character will shoot will be indicated in the middle of the crosshair. Also, note that you might be able to lock on multiple targets with the same shot (that will be explained a little further in the FAQ). -Evolution Meter: That's the meter that will show you how much heal points you need to make your character evolve. It's located on the bottom-left of your screen. You will need 8 heal items to fill this meter up to make your character evolve. -Overdrive Meter: That's the meter that show you how many Overdrive attacks you have. You can fill up to four spots with Overdrive Items before it's full. 3e. Items ------------------------ Now, it's turn for the game's items. All of them will appear after destroying a single enemy or a group of enemies (or after killing a pre-boss in Area 5). Here's all of the items you may encounter, how they look like and what effect they will have. -Heal Item: They look like a blue 3D cross-shaped thing. They will boost your evolution meter (by one, two or three points each). -Overdrive Item: They look like a red 3D skull-shaped form. They will give you access to one Overdrive attack (which replace your crosshair to automatically shoot quick single shots one any enemy standing on the screen). -Bonus Cubes: They look like a green cube. Only available in Direct Assault and Score Attack modes, these items will give you bonus points (to boost your total score). 3f. Basics ------------------------ Here is some of the stuff you have to know before playing the game. I will refer to a lot of these during my FAQ so you must know what they are before reading the whole thing (if you don't, you may be a little confused). -Single Shots: That kind of shot happens when you quickly press the Shoot button. It'll send a single shot at the enemy you’re aiming at. -Charged shots: That kind of shot will send multiple shots in one shot. To do one, you have to hold the Shot button, move your crosshair on the enemies you want to shoot and then release the Shot button. It'll send up to 8 shots at a time. As I said before, the number of shots released at once will be indicated inside the crosshair. -Analysation Nodes: Those things are what make the whole level evolve, both on his look and audio (from a Story view point, that's when you get pass a security layer in the system you're hacking). They look like a kind of spotlight with a pink wire-frame cube attached to it. To get it "opened", you'll need to shoot it one time to destroy the spotlight and then you'll need 8 shots (or one fully charged shot) on the pink cube to get it "opened". -Analysation Levels: Each time you completely shoot an Analysation Node, you will be taken to a new Analysation Level (in the game's story, it's like a new security layer in the system). Every time you get to a new level, the game's visual style will evolve and the game's music with also evolve (more samples playing and the BPM (Beat Per Minute) will be faster). To make things simple, the game becomes more intense each time you enter a new level. Notice that you may miss some of these levels and still complete the Area; you will only miss some stuff along the way, but every enemy you have to encounter will still be there. -Boss Part: At the end of each Area, you'll have to face a Boss Fight. Depending on how much of the enemies you've taken down, you'll face one of the three different boss (Giga, Mega, Tera). To destroy each of them, you must destroy their core to make them explode (more precise strategies will be explained further in the FAQ about each of the bosses). 3g. Basic Tips ------------------------ -Enemy Priority: In my own opinion, you should always aim for the bigger enemies (the ones who can take more hits) than smaller ones (like 1-hit enemies). The reason for this is that big enemies normally means big guns, which will translate in a lot of missiles coming at you pretty soon. As for the smaller enemies, they sure can shoot missiles, but the face is that they shoot much less of them at a time (generally one) and they shoot them less faster than the big enemies. Finally, big enemies will normally reward you with more points. -Play Mode Items Accumulation: If you have trouble to clear a Area because you get destroyed too soon (even with my FAQ in hand), remember that you can play other Areas first to build up your character to higher forms and to get some bonus Overdrives. It may help you to go through tougher parts that you weren't capable of clearing. Note that when you turn off your console, when you exit Play Mode or when you clear Area 5, any upgrades you had will be reset (you'll have to build up your character once more after that). ================================================================== 4. How This Guide Works [WKT00] ------------------------ This guide is pretty simple. Here's how it works. Let's start things by showing you what the game's Area Guides: x%-y%: ------------- -Sequence 1 -Sequence 2 Part 1, Sequence 2 Part 2, Sequence 2 Part 3. First of all, there's the name of each section of the level. The "x" percentage is the percentage you got BEFORE getting to the section and the "y" percentage is the one you get by getting through the cube inside the round-shaped 8-hit Doors. After this, you have every single enemies sequence. A sequence is a part where enemies keep coming, where you can't really stop shooting. Each sequence is separated like you can see of the example. In one single sequence, I will tell you which enemies to shoot in the right order (separated by commas). Every single support item that you can TAKE (and not use) will be shown between parenthesis "()". A Heal is a BLUE orb and a Overdrive is a RED orb. As for the Analysation Nodes, I will write when they appear and then when to make the first shot and when to shoot the rest of it between stars (*). You can also see that some enemies during levels will take the same number of shots to be destroyed but do not look the same. I will explain every enemy in the Areas Enemies Lists, but I won't mention which type of enemies you're facing during the game, only the number of shot they need. Anyway, you don't really need that information to be successful in the game. Sometimes, I will write, also between parenthesis, the area where the next enemy is going to appear. It should help to locate enemies before they appear. ================================================================== 5. Area 1 Guide [WKT01] -------------------------------- Song: Buggie Running Beeps Artist: Keiichi Sugiyama Let's get things started with Area 1. It's the easiest one in the game so you shouldn't have any problem to get this level completely cleared in your first five attempts. The only hard parts are the 30%-40% part that as a lot of quick enemies just passing by and the 100%-Boss part in which you have a group of 1-hit quickly flying through the screen. 5a. Area 1 Enemies ------------------------ 1-hit enemies (Type 1): They will be the first thing you see in the game. They look like rockets, with 3 wings attached to them. One simple shot will do the work. 1-hit enemies (Type 2): They look pretty similar to the Type 1 enemies but they have 4 wings instead of 3 and they do not move like rocket (they fly around instead of just going in one direction). They can also shoot missiles if you take too much time to destroy them. Again, one simple shot and they're gone. 1-hit enemies (Type 3): They look like rocket too, but they will shoot missiles pretty quickly (even if you're quick, some will shoot a missile at you right before you get them). They just fly through the level. Once more, only one little shot will be enough to destroy them. 3-hit ship: They look like a huge ship composed of squares and rectangles. They will shoot a lot of missiles at you except if you shoot them extremely quickly. They can be destroy by 3 quick shots or one charged shot (I prefer the charged shot). 5b. Area 1 Analysation Part ------------------------ 0%-10%: ------------- - Two 1-hit to the right (1 heal) - Two 1-hit to the left - Four 1-hit to the right, four 1-hit to the left, four 1-hit to the right, four 1-hit to the left - Analysation Node *1 shot and one fully charged shot* 10%-20%: ------------- - One 1-hit to center-left - One 1-hit to center-right (1 Overdrive) - Two 1-hit to center-left, two 1-hit to center-right - One 1-hit coming from center-left, one 1-hit coming from center right, Analysation Node, *1 shot*, two 1-hit to center-top, * one fully charged shot* 20%-30%: ------------- - One 1-hit to center-top-left, one 1-hit to center-top-right (1 heal) - Two 1-hit on both sides (1 heal), six 1-hit far away, one 1-hit to top-right, one 1-hit to center-right, one 1-hit to center-left, one 1-hit to top-left - One 1-hit to center (1 heal), two 1-hit to center - Two 1-hit to center (look left after) - Two 1-hit to left, two 1-hit to center (look right after) - Two 1-hit to right, two 1-hit to center, Analysation Node, *1 shot and one fully charged shot* 30%-40%: ------------- - Four 1-hit to left - Four 1-hit to right (1 heal) - Six 1-hit around center (1 heal) - Two 1-hit in top-center - Thirteen 1-hit everywhere on the screen (make a lot of 1 quick shots), when one enemy comes too close to your position, use a Overdrive (it should end where you see a huge twelve 1-hit wall coming at you) - Finish the twelve 1-hit wall by shooting some 4 charged shots from left to right on the enemies remaining (1 heal) - Analysation Node, *1 shot and one fully charged shot* 40%-50%: ------------- - Four 1-hit from top-center-left to top-center-right - Analysation Node, *1 shot*, two 1-hit to center, *one fully charged shot* 50%-60%: ------------- - Four 1-hit to bottom (will go up if you're not fast enough) - Four 1-hit to bottom (opposite side), four 1-hit to bottom-right, four 1-hit to bottom-left - Analysation Node, *1 shot and one fully charged shot* 60%-70%: ------------- - One 3-hit ship to far away center - One 3-hit ship right in front (1 heal), one 3-hit to far away center-left, one 3-hit right in front, one 3-hit to top-center (1 Overdrive) - Eight 1-hit in triangle shape in center (1 heal) - One 1-hit to center, one 1-hit center-right, one 1-hit center-left - Four 1-hit from left to right - Analysation Node, *1 shot and one fully charged shot* 70%-80%: ------------- - Three 1-hit to center - Two 1-hit to center - Two 1-hit to left and right - Two 1-hit to center - Two 1-hit to left, two 1-hit to right, Analysation Node, *1 shot*, two 1-hit to center, *one fully charged shot* 80%-90%: ------------- - Two 1-hit to center (1 heal) - Two 1-hit to center - Two 1-hit to center, four 1-hit to center (1 heal), six 1-hit to center, Analysation Node, three 1-hit to center, four 1-hit to center-bottom, *1 shot and one fully charged shot* 90%-100%: ------------- - Two 1-hit to center (1 heal) - Two 1-hit to left and right, two 1-hit to center, four 1-hit to center-left (1 heal), four 1-hit quickly flying to center, two 1-hit to left and right, one 1-hit to center, one 1-hit to left - Analysation Node, *1 shot and one fully charged shot* 100%-Boss: ------------- - Four 1-hit from far away top-center, four 1-hit from close bottom-center, five 1-hit from center-left to center-right (1 heal), two 1-hit to center, four 1-hit from left to right, two 1-hit to bottom-left and bottom-right - Six 1-hit from left to center-right (1 heal), four 1-hit to top-center 5c. Area 1 Boss Fight (Earth) ------------------------ At this point, you should be at the Fourth Form and you should have 1 Overdrive. If you have all of this, this boss fight will be a walk in the park. If you don't, don't worry: It's still pretty easy. 1st part: ------------- - Shoot the disco ball as much as you can - Shoot the missiles when they appear above the boss - Finish the disco ball part 2nd part: ------------- - Shoot any of the spike ends of the structure - When the tentacles appear, shoot them quickly. If you can't destroy it before it disappear, shoot the missiles. - For the spinning tentacles part, just focus on the spike ends - You should beat that part before the real dangerous tentacles comes back. If you don't, just shoot them quickly and then shoot the spike ends to finish it - Shoot the spike ends as you wait for the next disco ball - One more disco ball, except that you can get it down before it's created. Just shoot more, more and more - Same as the beginning of this part, just keep shooting the spike ends and the tentacles when they appear - Shoot the disco as it appears - Again and again, shoot the spike ends and the tentacles 3rd part: ------------- - Shoot the spike ends as the last part is taking shape - When the razor blades are spinning around the boss, just keep your crosshair on a spot where you can just lock on a lot of squares in one shot - When a razor gets close to you, just shoot it and get back to the same strategy - You might have to fight more than one cycle of razor blades, depending on how much you've shot the spike ends during the first cycle There you go! One level down! But that was the easiest, now comes the harder ones... ================================================================== 6. Area 3 Guide [WKT03] -------------------------------- Song: Creation The State of Art Artist: Ken Ishii Here we are at Area 3. This one is not that hard and shouldn't cause any problems if you know what you're doing. There we go: 7a. Area 3 Enemies ------------------------ 1-hit enemies (Type 1): They look like missiles with three wings. They can open their wings to stop moving or just to go in more than one direction. Just one hit and they're gone. 1-hit enemies (Type 2): This type looks like one half of a ying-yang symbol with some kind of feathers on their back. They will normally fly around the screen and will stop moving; at this moment, shoot them with a single shot. Note that they can also open themselves to have two wings and even shoot missiles at you. 3-hit ships: They look like a circle shaped spaceship with a little flashing circle on the front (like in Star Fox). When you shoot them, they will deploy a huge yellow shield that won't help them in any way. Three shots is what is takes to destroy them. 3-hit enemies: They look like the 1-hit (Type 2) enemies, but they are round-shaped and have spike all round them. The just need three shots to be taken down. Small air-snakes: They look like snakes, but they're not as big as the ones you'll encounter in the 70%-80% part. They will fly up and down or left and right all over the place. They take about eight shots before exploding. Air-snakes: They also look like snakes, but they are huge and can take much more shoots to be destroyed. They will fly in all directions; shoot them as much as you can. Then, they will stop in one spot to prepare a huge beam; that's the moment when you must shoot a lot more to completely kill them (if you don't, the beam will come slowly at you). Pre-Boss Blocks: They're just blocks rolling toward you before the boss (right after the last analysation part is cleared). One shot for each of them will do the job. 7b. Area 3 Analysation Part ------------------------ 0%-10%: ------------- - Four 1-hit to bottom, Analysation Node - *1 shot*, four 1-hit to top, *one fully charged shot* 10%-20%: ------------- - Four 1-hit to bottom and four 1-hit to top going to center after (1 heal) - Four 1-hit to top-left, four 1-hit to bottom-right, four 1-hit to center-left, Analysation Node, *1 shot and one fully charged shot* 20%-30%: ------------- - Two 1-hit to center - Two 1-hit to top-center - Two 1-hit to bottom-center - Two 1-hit and one 3-hit ship to center (1 Overdrive), Analysation Node, *1 shot and one fully charged shot* 30%-40%: ------------- - Two 1-hit to top-center - Two 1-hit and one 3-hit ship to center (1 heal) - Two 1-hit to center, two 1-hit to center, one ?-hit bottom-center (1 heal) and one 3-hit to center-left (1 heal) - Analysation Node, *1 shot and one fully charged shot* 40%-50%: ------------- - Six 1-hit all over the screen - Eight 1-hit coming in groups of two quickly - Two 1-hit and one 3-hit ship to center (1 Overdrive), two 1-hit to top-center, two 1-hit to center-left and two 1-hit to center-right - Analysation Node, *1 shot*, three 1-hit to top, *fully charged shot* 50%-60%: ------------- - One 1-hit to center-right, one 1-hit to center-left, one 1-hit to center-right, one 1-hit to center-left - One 1-hit to center-right (1 heal) - One 1-hit to right and one 1-hit to left - Three 1-hit forming a triangle, one 3-hit (1 heal), Analysation Node, *1 shot and one fully charged shot* 60%-70%: ------------- - Two 3-hit to top and bottom - One 3-hit to center (1 heal) - One 2-hit to bottom, one 3-hit to top-right - Eight 1-hit and two 3-hit all over the screen, stay calm and take them out from right to left with charged shots for each enemy, use Overdrive if needed - Six small air-Snakes all over the screen, use a Overdrive (2 heal), Analysation Node should be fully shot after the Overdrive but if not, finish it 70%-80%: ------------- - One air-snake (1 heal) - One air-snake (1 heal) - One air-snake (1 heal), Analysation Node, two 1-hit to bottom-center-right, *1 shot and one fully charged shot* 80%-90%: ------------- - One 1-hit from the left, one 1-hit from the top, one 1-hit from the left - Three 1-hit to top-center, three 1-hit to bottom-center - Four 1-hit to center, Analysation Node, *1 shot*, four 1-hit around center (1 heal), *one fully charged shot* 90%-100%: ------------- - Four 1-hit to center - Four 1-hit to center - Eight 1-hit from left to top-right, Analysation Node, *1 shot and one fully charged shot* 100%-Boss: ------------- - Four 1-hit to center, four 1-hit to center (1 heal), nine 1-hit to center, use Overdrive or be really quick 7c. Area 3 Boss Fight (Venus) ------------------------ Right now, you should be Fourth form, depending on how much levels you've done before this one, how many heal you've picked up and many others variants. Unlike all the other normal bosses in the game, you have to go through a little pre-boss part before getting to the actual boss fight. Pre-Boss Part: ------------- That little pre-boss part should never, ever scare you. There's only three waves of rolling blocks coming at you (there's also a fourth wave, but it is so far away that you won't even see it). To get through the waves, just keep shooting charged shot (fully charged or not) until you get through that part. 1st form: ------------- - Look a little bit to the right and shoot quickly shoot any spotlight (red or blue) that gets in your part. If some of them are above or below you, you can shoot them but make sure that you get the ones in front of you out of the way first. 2nd form: ------------- - Quickly shoot the little black and red containers before the boss get his missiles after you. - When some of the missiles get near you, shoot them quickly and then continue shooting the containers until you get to the third form. If more missiles are launched, shoot them when they're close and then go back to the containers. 3rd form: ------------- - Look left and put your crosshair on the spot where the red squares always come from (while the boss is spinning). Just keep doing a lot of charged shot. When the boss gets some missiles at you, just move your crosshair a little bit to the left and then get back to the red squares. - When all the red squares are gone, make a lot of fully charged shot on the core of the boss. The cylinder may close before you take him down; if it does, just go back to step one of this form and then shoot it once more. When you're done with this one, the boss will explode. Nice job! You cleared Area 3 and you can now get to the 4th one, which will test your skills like never before (especially for the boss part) ================================================================== 8. Area 4 Boss Fight (Uranus) ------------------------ ================================================================== 9. Area 5 Guide [WKT05] -------------------------------- Song: Fear Artist: Adam Freeland Here we are at Area 5, easily the hardest one. Not only will you have trouble during a normal game but you will also have a lot of trouble getting all the enemies down and getting every support items. Just stay calm and practice the level over and over with my FAQ in hand, it should make it easier. 9a. How to get Area 5 ------------------------ To get Area 5, you must get 100% analysation on the four other levels in Play Mode. To get 100% analysation on those levels, you must shoot 8 times on every single analysation cube. They are carried by a little round-shaped thing that can be killed in only one shot. There's 10 analysation cubes on every level (except Area 5, but that's a whole different thing anyway). 9b. Area 5 Enemies ------------------------ 4-hit enemies (Type 1): They are the most common enemy in Area 5. They look like a little spaceship with three wings on their back. I normally destroy them by giving them a charged 4-shot (you can shoot 4 individual shots if you want). 4-hit enemies (Type 2): These enemies appear a little further in the level. They look like the other 4-hit enemies but they have 4 wings instead of 3. Also, when they are shot, their wings fall apart one by one. To take them down, use a charged 4-shot (the individual shots also work well). There are two of them that can be shot down in only one shot (I'm not sure of this one, but I always see two of them explode and there's only 1-hit that can be done on them AND it doesn't have any effect on the shot down percentage even if they're taken down in their 1-hit form). 8-hit enemies: They look like a UFO-like ship with razor blades spinning around the bottom of it. They can take up to 8 shots so I highly recommend to give them a fully charged shot. Ground-snakes: They appear from little holes and shoot some weird spiked balls at you. They can be shot in about 8 headshots. You can shot a normal or a charged shot (both are good). Just make sure your shots are on their head and not on their body or it will take much more time to take them down. Air-snakes: They look like the ground snakes except that they fly. They can appear from holes (like ground snakes) but they can also appear from nowhere. Like the ground snakes, you must give them 8 headshots. It's a little more complicated than with the ground snakes so make sure you shoot them in the head and not on their body. Individual shots are recommended for air snakes. Air-fishes: They're a little bit like the air snakes but you must shoot their whole body to destroy them. You can use charged shots and/or individual shots for them. Just make sure you shoot fast. Falcons: They have a huge body with wings. They will always spread their wings wide open and will have many targets to shoot (they take about 4-6 shots each). If you don't shoot those targets, missiles will come out of it. The Falcon will then cover himself and spread his wings again: shoot them one more time. He will cover himself again, spread his wings again but this time you have to shoot his body. He should go down in 5-6 shots (maybe more). Tubular ship: There's only one tubular ship in the level and he's located in the 35%-42% section. It looks like a huge tube with a open middle section. It will shoot a lot of trash at you (maybe 20 things at a time). They might look like a huge treat, but they're not (well, if you take out the tube quickly they shouldn't be a problem). To take down the tubular ship, you must shoot the middle part of the tube. It will take a lot of shots to take it down (almost 100 shots). It looks like a huge thing, but it's really easy to destroy. 9c. Area 5 Analysation Part ------------------------------------ First of all, I have some tips to give you before getting into the description on the analysation part.: -You should always be aware that items can fly all over the level, making it hard to see/shoot them. As soon as you see one, shoot it as soon as you can. -I highly recommend watching the video that I watched to write this FAQ. This video can be found at this URL: http://video.google.co.uk/videoplay?docid=-435065682899786051 -Be patient. 0%-7%: ------------- - Six 4-hit at the beginning (1 Heal) - 8-hit Door - Four 4-hit on the bottom (1 Overdrive) 7%-14%: ------------- - Three 4-hit up-left (1 Heal), three 4-hit middle-left, two 4-hit almost in the same area (1 heal) - 8-hit Door - Two 4-hit on each side of the door 14%-21%: ------------- - One ground-snake (1 Heal) with two 4-hit, one more ground-snake (1 Heal) with two more 4-hit - One ground-snake (1 Overdrive) - 8-hit Door with two 4-hit a little higher 21%-28%: ------------- - Two 4-hit up (look up after this) - One air-snake with two 4-hit (look down) - One air-snake coming out of a hole (1 Heal) - Aim a little bit on the left for one far away air-snake (1 Heal) - Two 8-hit (1 Heal) - Two 4-hit and 8-hit Door - Two ground-snake behind the door (one on the right first and then one on the left) 28%-35%: ------------- - One ground-snake, one 4-hit, one air-snake, one ground-snake one the left, one air-snake (1 Heal), one 4-hit and one more 4-hit right after taking out the air-snake. - One air-snake coming out of a hole (1 Heal) and one 4-hit after (look up after) - Two 8-hit (1 Heal), two more 8-hit (right first and left after) - 8-hit Door 35%-42%: ------------- - Eleven 4-hit (shoot them one by one, it's not as hard as it seems) - Tubular ship - Aim a little on the left for some far away enemies, do the same on the right when the left side is cleared - Five 4-hit - Four 4-hit, 8-hit Door and one 4-hit on top of the door 42%-50%: ------------- - When the text box is completely out of the way, use a Overdrive (if some enemies remain after the overdrive, finish them with some normal shots) - 8-hit Door and five 4-hit behind the door (a little higher) 50%-57%: ------------- - Two packs of two 4-hit (one 4-hit (Type A) and one 4-hit (Type B) on each side), one 8-hit in the middle (1 Heal), two 4-hit (one on the left and one on the right) (aim top-left) - One 9-hit (1 Heal) (aim top-right) - One 9-hit (1 Heal), three 4-hit, 9-hit Door and two 4-hit (1 Overdrive) - Two 4-hit behind the door that may go down in only 1 shot (right before you're taking to the next section) 57%-64%: ------------- - Three 4-hit on the left - Four air-fishes from the right to the middle (1 Heal), five air-fishes from the middle to the left (1 Heal et 1 Overdrive) and two 4-hit when you're shooting the air-fishes - Two 4-hit, 8-hit Door and ten 4-hit behind the door (on both sides) 64%-71%: ------------- - Two 4-hit on the left - Five air-fishes (2 Heal) with two 4-hit passing by after a couple of seconds in the middle of the screen *be careful because they can pass by without being seeing sometimes (aim on the left) - Start to shoot the two air-fishes, when the view switch to the front use one Overdrive and finish the job if needed, 8-hit Door - Two 4-hit behind the door (left and right) 71%-78%: ------------- - Five 4-hit, three air-fishes on the right (1 Heal), one air-fish on the bottom (1 Overdrive), one air-fish on the left and 8-hit Door (you shouldn't use any Overdrive, but you can use one if you're in trouble) 78%-85%: ------------- - Aim down for three 4-hit in the middle, one 4-hit on the left and one 4-hit on the right, start shooting the air-fish on the right and use a Overdrive (1 Heal and 1 Overdrive), finish the rest with normal shot if needed and shoot the 8-hit Door if it's not opened yet 85%-92%: ------------- - Shoot the big 4-hit row far away and when the two 4-hit on the bottom stop in front of you, use a Overdrive (3 Heal) and shoot the rest if needed - 8-hit door and six 4-hit behind the door before you get to it 92%-100%: ------------- - Three 4-hit, shoot the first part of the falcon, two 4-hit on the bottom, finish the falcon - 8-hit Door and five 4-hit on the bottom 100%-Boss: ------------- - Aim up for one 8-hit (1 Heal), shoot the falcon, one 8-hit (1 Heal), finish the falcon and one 8-hit (1 Heal) - Three 4-hit (1 Overdrive) and one 8-hit in the middle (1 Heal) *You might need to use a Overdrive here if it gets really busy on the screen* **I think I had air-fishes on this section, but since the video doesn't have any, I'm not 100% sure of this. I will check this out and change this part in a future version of this FAQ** 9d. Area 5 Boss Fights ------------------------------------ Alright. You're halfway through the level. If things went great in the analysation part, you should have two (or more) Overdrives: they're going to be pretty useful here. Now the only thing that is going to be hard is getting every single support item after each Pre-Boss (there are four of them). The support items just spread all over the place when the Pre-Bosses explode so you must locate and shoot every item pretty quickly (you have about four seconds to get them). I suggest using a Overdrive BEFORE the Pre-Bosses explode so that the items don't get anywhere else in the area. Pre-Boss 1: ------------- - Shoot the tentacles, not the light - Be ready for the three items, use a Overdrive if you want to be sure to get it Pre-Boss 2: ------------- - Shoot the light - When missiles appear, shoot them quickly - Be ready for the three items, use a Overdrive if you want to be sure to get it Pre-Boss 3: ------------- - While the Pre-Boss is taking shape, shoot the little green squares - When the Pre-Boss has created tube, shoot the upper part of the tube (the grey squares) - The Pre-Boss while explode in multiple "clocks", shoot each one of them one at a time - Be ready for the three items, use a Overdrive if you want to be sure to get it Pre-Boss 4: ------------- - Shoot like a madman on the yellow squares - When the missiles appear, take them down quick - In the three "wheels" part, shoot the missiles and the light - When the Pre-Boss is running around the area, try to give him a lot of shots (not many can be given) - When he jumps on you, shoot the yellow squares (keep at least two or three squares alive) - When the Pre-Boss is on the ground, use a Overdrive to be sure to get the items Final Boss ------------- - Don't bother about anything but the middle rings and the two black cylinder in the middle (one on the top and one on the bottom) - Do your best to keep your shots away from the weird polygonal-shaped enemies because they can drop support items and you might miss one of them (thing you DON'T want to happen at this point) If you think you got every single enemy and support item and that the final boss is over, don't press any button. If you really did get 100% shot down, you'll be able to see the alternate ending with the pink butterfly. Also, right after this, you'll get this sentence: "Your skill is legendary, only you know the real truth." Sure, it's not a big reward... But trust me: you'll put so much work into this (well, I DID) that you'll want to see this (I was pretty happy when I got it). After that, you can press Start to see the result screen. Good job if you completely cleared the level and if you did not, try again! ================================================================== 10. Direct Assault and Score Attack Tips [WKTDA] (work in progress) -------------------------------- Score Attack and Direct Assault modes are pretty similar to Play Mode with the exception that there will be much more enemies. For now, I don't plan to do a complete FAQ like I did for Play Mode, but I'll give you some tips on how to score great scores, which will unlock you some stuff in the game (like all the different view points for Beyond Mode). -First of all, know that you can turn on Score Display in the Option menu. This will show you, while you play, how much point you make for every shot you do. It's pretty useful to see your good shots and also your bad ones. -In both of those two modes, there will be a new item (Bonus Cubes) that you'll be able to get. It's a like green cube and if you shoot it, you'll get points to boost your final score on the game's leaderboard. If you're aiming for a huge score, missing one of those is a big mistake. -The first big advice I can give you is to always clear groups of enemies with charged shots (the higher, the better). For example, a single shot on one enemy may give you 10 points. If you see the same type of enemy but in a group, you'll g **(À TERMINER!!!)** -Obviously, when aiming for a big score, always try to have a high shot down percentage in each level. Not only will you get more points because of the enemies, but you'll also get to fight a harder boss form, which will give you more points. Most of the time, it'll make a big difference in getting first place or second in the game's leaderboard. -Even if the levels look the same, know that they're not the same as in Play Mode. In some levels, you'll see much more enemies than usual. Just stay focused and if it’s your first play through in a Score Attack/Direct Assault level, be ready for anything new. -Also, even if I just said that there will be a lot of new enemies, there's also part where the level is just flipped to the other side. Basically, if the enemies where on the left in Play Mode, they'll be on the right in Score Attack/Direct Assault. It's not always true but it happens in the beginning of Area 5. -If you are aiming for a huge score, keep your Overdrives for crowded parts. You should always try to get your charged shots done first since they will normally give you much more points than Overdrives (Overdrives make quick single shots, which give less points). ================================================================== 12. Tera, Giga and Mega (Tera being the hardest and Mega being the easiest). If you shot down more than 98% of the enemies before a boss fight on any level on any mode, you will fight the Tera form. Also, on Score Mode, that form will give you much more points. For the Giga form, you must get a little less percentage than that and even less for Mega. Sadly, I don't know the exact percentage to get those two forms. -On the DreamCast version, there is a line under the name Rez displayed on the VMU (Virtual Memory Unit). If you look at it while listening to any song (in the menu or in the game), it should pulse at the song's beat. -A screensaver fonction appears when you leave the game on the pause menu for five minutes or more. -Here's the text displayed during Area 5: "A great prosperity came, as life conquered even the highest mountains...
