===================================DISCLAIMER================================== I have decided not to allow websites other than Gamefaqs (www.gamefaqs.com), IGN (faqs.ign.com) & Gamespot (www.gamespot.com) to host my FAQs from now on. Please don't ask, because I will not grant permission. It's just that too many sites don't keep their version of my FAQ up to date which makes for a lot of hassle in my mailbox. So if anyone sees this FAQ on any site other than those mentioned above, please let me know and I will take care of the situation, thanks. Gastronomy Beetlejuice can take three hits before he loses a life, though some hazards will kill you with one hit. Once you lose all three lives you can use a continue if you wish, but you only have three continues. Once you have some scares you can access them by pausing the game, then you scroll through the scares with up and down until you find one that you want to use. Press A to activate it, then un-pause the game and enjoy the scare. It is also VERY IMPORTANT to know that the game scrolls vertically as you jump up or down, and you can only jump to platforms that are on the screen. This means that you will die if you drop to a platform below if it is off the screen, you must wait for the screen to scroll to it first. Similarly, you cannot jump to a ledge above you if it's not on the screen yet. This is pretty annoying, but as long as you keep it in mind you shouldn't die as often. ############################################################################### (D-01) STAGE 01: TOWN ############################################################################### Walk right past the building and drop onto the bush up ahead, make a note of the large beetle below you. This enemy CANNOT be killed so don't try it, simply steer clear of him instead. Jump over the enemy and jump to the small cloud as you grab the key that's above you. Carefully return left past the enemy and use your key [press up] to open the locked door and enter the building. Make a note of the cloud on your left as it will start moving once you throw a nearby switch. Head right past the fireplace and watch the colourful beams in front of you. These beams will kill you with one hit if you touch them so you need to be extra careful. Run past the first two beams one at a time when there's a pause between them, then jump to the ledge above you. The flaming torches above can damage you, but they won't kill you with one hit like the beams. Instead jump very low [so you don't hit the torch above] to the ledge with the flower on it when the third beam pauses. Carefully jump to the switch on the next platform to flip it, then drop to the floor and run past the three beams [which are now deactivated] once more. Jump on the cloud that's now moving and ride it up to the second floor, then look at the pot. The small creature jumping in and out of it can damage you, but if you stand on the very edge of the pot it shouldn't touch you. Ignore the pot and head right past a beam, then jump on the edge of the second pot. Jump to either of the ledges above you and flip the switch above, then carefully drop to the ground. Head right and ride another cloud up to the third floor, then make a note of the shark in the giant bathtub to your left. The shark follows you wherever you go, so as long as you run left and jump to [flip] the switch without any hesitation you shouldn't get hit. Ride the cloud on the other side of the bathtub up to the fourth floor, and CAREFULLY jump onto the pot before moving to the edge of it. Jump to the ledge with the flower and jump to the ledge above with the blue book to get the following message. "I've found the book for the recently deceased. It tells me to enter the recently deceased information booths to obtain scares." Flip the switch on your right to send a bell crashing down on the nearby enemy, then carefully jump past that enemy and his shots. Flip a second switch to crush the enemy with another bell, then jump left to the window marked EXIT to return outside once more. Avoid the large beetle as you jump across two small clouds, then avoid the large fly as you cross a larger cloud and jump to the solid ground beyond. Make a note of the hole in the ground because a bunch of small beetles should be coming out of it. These guys can't hurt you, but you should hurt them! If you squash them with your kick you will receive some tickets that you can use at any store to buy items. I recommend killing a few of them to gather some tickets, but watch out for the large beetle and bees that sometimes show up from the right. Once you think you have around 300 tickets enter the building that's between the two holes for your first store. Buy the skeleton scare [far right one] and leave the store [press down] to return outside. Head right to the beehive and activate your skeleton scare [use the pause menu], then jump up and shoot the beehive to get rid of it. Now the cloud to your right will move so ride it down to the scorpion below. Avoid the scorpion since he can't be killed, then jump to the nearby cloud and carefully jump to the ledge beyond. Avoid the large beetle as you jump up the ledges above, then beware of a fast beetle above you as you kill some small ones for more tickets. Once you have 300 of them you can enter the store behind you and buy another skeleton scare, then activate it and use it to get rid of the beehive to your right. Kill some more beetles to raise enough tickets for three skeleton scares, then buy them and get ready for a boss battle. Jump the scorpion and enter the building to the right of the store to meet the stage boss. ============== Stage 01: BOSS ============== This guy slowly walks towards you while spraying something at you equally slowly. Jump [low, or you'll end up above the door frame] over his spray cloud and use the skeleton scare, then fire at his spray can until your scare wears off. Repeat this until he dies, just remember that once one spray cloud is off the screen the next is about to appear, so get ready to jump over it. ############################################################################### (D-02) STAGE 02 - RIVER ############################################################################### Make a note of the boat below, because as soon as you jump on to it you start moving left. If you jump off the boat it stops until you're back on it once more. Jump down to the boat and ride it under a fly before carefully jumping over a second fly and landing back on the boat. Continue riding the boat left, then jump another fly and land safely on the boat again. Continue riding the boat left as you jump another fly, until eventually the boat stops. Jump up the trio of ledges above you and avoid the scorpion and the tentacle creature above as you squash some beetles for tickets. Buy two skeleton scares [exit the store and re-enter it if they're not offered] from the store in the blue door to your right [if you don't already have two]. Jump over the scorpion and stand right of the tentacle creature above you, then use your skeleton scares and fire single shots at the tentacle creature until it dies. Kill some more beetles and buy an ogre scare, then jump up the ledges above. The large beetle and scorpion to your left are really annoying so you're likely to get hit at least once. Jump to the right edge of the first platform when it's safe and quickly jump left to the platform above [so that if you get hit you won't get knocked back down and have to start all over again] before jumping to the floor above you. Ignore the small frog on your right, then jump over him when it's safe. Activate your ogre scare and carefully shoot the giant green creature to get rid of it, because if you get hit by him you'll lose your ogre scare. Head right and jump up the ledge, then jump towards the tentacle creature and shoot it without touching it yourself. Repeat this until your ogre scare runs out, then use a skeleton scare [or buy and use one if needed] if the enemy isn't dead yet. Squash some beetles and buy an ogre scare, then jump up to the spot where the tentacle creature was above you. Beware of the beetle as you head left past another store and reach the highest ledge, then jump over the fly before jumping to the next ledge on your right. Jump over the beetle and fly as you jump to yet another ledge, then drop down to the ledge with the eyes. Walk to the right edge and drop to the ledge below when it's safe, then quickly [once the it scrolls on-screen] drop to the ledge with the beetle and walk to the ledge on your right. Jump over the giant creatures shots as you drop to the ledge below, then use an ogre scare to get rid of the creature. Head right and carefully walk under the jumping frogs, then use the remainder of your ogre scare to kill the tentacle creature above. Jump up the right side of the pair of ledges above you if you still have some ogre scare left, otherwise buy one. Avoid the beetle and fly, then jump to the right side of the large creature above and use your ogre scare to kill it. Kill some beetles and buy an ogre scare or two or a few skeleton scares, then jump up past the spot where you killed the latest green creature. The glowing red eyes to your right are the entrance to the boss of this stage so take a breath and head over to them. ============== Stage 02: BOSS ============== This football player boss [WHAT are they thinking!?!!?] is an exact clone of the first boss. He walks slowly towards you and kicks slow-moving footballs at you one at a time. Simply jump the football and shoot him until he dies, while watching for more footballs to jump over. It's the exact same tactics that you used on the first boss, so if you made it this far hopefully you haven't forgotten those skills already. ############################################################################### (D-03) STAGE 03: HOUSE A ############################################################################### This is a very short stage and is played in a very different style from the stages so far. This stage is played from an overhead perspective, much like the original Legend of Zelda. Touch the far right box of the three on your right for a scare [looks like a bottle or potion], then touch the top left of the trio of boxes in the bottom left corner for another scare. Go up and grab the single box beside the column of four for a third scare as you avoid the enemy. Finally touch the upper right box for another scare before opening the door above. Ignore the pair of boxes and head up past the enemy instead, then touch the lone box for a key. Head left and up the stairs as you open the door there and continue up to end this short stage. ############################################################################### (D-04) STAGE 04: HOUSE B ############################################################################### Throughout this stage there are a lot of wrong turns that will send you to a sandworm stage if you take them, but if you pay attention you'll make it through all right. Quickly get out of the narrow hallway [because sometimes a spider will come down and you'll have nowhere to move] as you watch the spiders scuttling along the floor. Open the door to your left and grab the key from the box but DO NOT continue walking left or you'll end up in the sandworm stage below. Instead walk to the door in the upper right corner and open it, then get a scare from the far left box and another from the bottom right one. Grab another scare from the middle box of the six left over, but DO NOT touch the upper right box. If you touch it an enemy will come out to annoy you, so continue up to the next area instead. There are two hazards in this short room, one is the screen that's slowly scrolling. If you get caught at the bottom and it scrolls past, you lose a life. However there is also a large floating door that's chasing you, and if it catches up you'll end up in the sandworm stage below. However if you just follow the path up, right and up to the next room as fast as you can you should be fine. There are two enemies in this room so start using those scares until they turn into large beetles, then eat the beetles to regain your strength. Approach the door above you [don't open it yet] and wait for an enemy to come close, then use your scares to easily beat him without any risk of harm. Open the door and eat the beetle, then follow the path right to find three more scares in the boxes. Open the nearby door and walk to the book, then press select to pick it up and get the following message. "The Maitlands' are new to this afterlife stuff. They'll never find their way without this book." Walk back through both doors to the main room, then head right and walk up to Barbara for the following message. "It's that foxy Barbara Maitland but she's trying to stop me. She's lost the book for the recently deceased. She'll let me through if I find it for her though." Since you've already found the book that Barbara's looking for, simply press select to give it to her before heading right to the next area. Avoid the spiders here as you approach the stone harp above you, then touch it to get teleported to another room. Avoid more spiders as you grab three scares and a key from the boxes, then use the harp to return to the previous room. Head right and open the door, then go up to the next area. This area has another floating door slowly chasing you so make sure it doesn't touch you, or you'll end up in the sandworm stage below. Use a scare to get rid of the fuzzy dice, then walk up to the hammer below the table and press select to pick it up and get this message. "Delias' sculptures are too stupid to be scared. I'm going to have to chip them away with this hammer." Now launch the hammer at the enemies with select and let it bounce back and forth, press select again when it's close to catch it. Use the hammer to kill all enemies and eat any beetles that appear, then unlock the door above you while still avoiding the floating door that's chasing you. You should see three different paths leading up, but only one of them is the right one. The left two paths will take you to the annoying sandworm stage below, and the right one will take you to the next area [so take the right one]. This area scrolls much like one of the earlier ones so you need to be quick, but there's also a fork in the path early on. Take the right path and collect the three scares as you follow it up to the next area. Let the hammer bounce up and down in the area to your left as it kills a pair of enemies, then ignore the far left door as it leads to the sandworm stage below. Walk up through another door instead and use your hammer to get rid of the enemy by the toilet. Open the box for a key, then head for the right side of this area. Unlock both doors there and continue up the stairs to end this stage and take you to stage 05. ############################################################################### (D-05) STAGE 04-A: SANDWORMS! ############################################################################### If you're in this stage it means that you took a wrong turn somewhere in stage 04, but this detour is really short and not that hard if you don't panic. Jump the two gaps ahead of you and grab the random scare, then activate it and wait on the left side of this purple ledge. Now you should see the sandworm circling around, but as long as you stay here it shouldn't touch you. You need to watch the sandworm's pattern and shoot it in the head without it touching you. Once you've used up your scare another one appears in the same location so you don't really need to worry about running out. Basically keep attacking the sandworm's head until it dies, then jump the final gap and jump to the door. This ends the stage and puts you back to the spot in stage 04 where you took a wrong turn, so make the right choice this time around! ############################################################################### (D-06) STAGE 05: HOUSE C ############################################################################### Head left while avoiding some spiders and use some scares to get rid of a couple of enemies, then go up to the next room as you avoid more spiders. Ignore the path to your left because it leads to the sandworm stage above. Use the harp above to reach another room, then grab a key from the box there. Go back through the harp and head down to where you started this stage, then unlock the door to your right. Grab a scare from the box above, then continue onward to the next area. This is another scrolling area that also has a floating door chasing you, and of course you have a choice of routes. The left route has one enemy but is much tighter on time, you have less chance for errors. Where as the right path has two enemies, but is pretty direct. I recommend the right route since chances are you'll only take one hit on either route, and if you're good you may not take any damage on this route. Once you pick your route and follow it up, you'll reach the next area. Avoid the spiders here and MAKE SURE you don't touch either of the boxes, because they both have enemies inside them. Avoid the spiders and walk over to the fire extinguisher on your left, then pick it up with select to see the following message. "This extinguisher ought to put out a few fires." Now stand close to the flaming harp [while avoiding the spiders] and use the fire extinguisher [with select] until the fire goes out. Enter the harp to reach another room, then grab a scare from the box to your left. Pick up the nearby fly swatter with select to see the following message. "Looks like the ghost with the most has his fly swatter back." The fly swatter behaves exactly like the hammer, so you can use [with select] it in exactly the same way. Head right past the harp and pick up the spray can with select for the following message. "I've now found Otho's spray can." Now go back through the harp and walk up to Othos on your right to get this message. "Hey look at what we've got here. It's my old buddy, Otho. If I spray him a gross color he won't hang around too long. I just need to find one of his spray cans." Hit select to spray Otho and get rid of him, then head right to the next area. Avoid the floating door and the red enemy as you head right, then start your fly swatter bouncing up and down to take out the flies. Pick up your swatter once all the flies are gone, then go through the door on your right to reach the next area. There are a few annoying enemies here, so use your scares and try to avoid them as best as you can. Enter the harp above to reach another room, then avoid the enemy here as you pick up [use select] the duck below you and see this message. "All you ornithologists will recognize this lesser spotted rubber duck." Head back through the harp and head right [using scares if needed] as you approach Charles. "Oh brother, it's that square, Charles. He wants his rubber duck, I'd better humor him." Press select to give Charles the duck, then go up to the next area. Use your swatter on the flies in here while avoiding the door, then head left and grab the key from the box. Avoid the remaining flies as you unlock the door above and continue to the next area. In this scrolling area you want to take the left route and grab the key from the box there [an enemy's in the other box in the right route], then unlock the door above and continue on to the next area. This scrolling area teases you with items that you can't get, so don't fall for it. Pretty much just follow the path until you see the boxes, then grab the first box ONLY as it has the key that you need. Now quickly head for the door and unlock it to reach the next area. Avoid the spiders and use your scare on the enemy if you want, then head right and use select to catch the mouse for the following message. "Wiggle, wiggle little mouse, scare a deetze from this house." Now head back left and approach delia above you to see this message. "Delia won't move. She won't let me through. But I know of something that would soon change her mind. A cute little mouse should get her moving." Now hit select to use the mouse, then continue up to the next area. Ignore the first box on your left in this scrolling area since it has an enemy inside, then ignore the second box to save time. Grab a scare from the third box if you think you have enough time, then continue up to the next area. Try your best to avoid the flies as you enter the harp above, then head right through another harp. Walk down and pick up [use select] the ring below to see this message. "I've found my ring. It will come in handy if I find a nice girl to marry." Now go back through both harps and head right to meet Lydia and get the following message. "Oh wow, it's Lydia, my true love. I'd better find that wedding ring." Hit select to give Lydia the ring, then grab a key from the nearby box and pick up [use select] the glasses above for this message. "Someone has carelessly left their glasses lying around." Unlock the door to your left and continue upward to finally end this long stage. ############################################################################### (D-07) STAGE 06: OUTDOORS ############################################################################### In this stage you'll want to squash a few small beetles any time you see them, since you'll be buying some scares later on. Head right and jump the squid, then squash some beetles for a few tickets. Drop down to the ledge that you can see below you, then carefully drop to the ledge with the frog. Carefully jump to the small ledge on your left, then do a low jump to the small ledge on your right. Jump right across ledges until you reach a pair of jumping frogs, then carefully time your jumps over them. Jump to the middle of the small pyramid of platforms while a scorpion walks down the left side of them, then jump to the top and ride a cloud across the gap. Carefully jump to the next ledge with the scorpion, then avoid the enemy while jumping to the lowest ledge on your right. Jump to the ledge in front of the frog, then carefully jump over him to reach a pair of ledges. Jump to the ledge above and avoid the beetle as you enter the purple building. Climb the platforms until some beetles appear, then return to the ground until they pass. Climb the platforms once more and carefully jump over the torch at the top to continue your climb along the right wall. Jump over the torch to land on another sequence of platforms, then carefully descend them before riding a nearby cloud. Jump from the cloud to a column of platforms, then climb to the top of them and jump to a second column. Climb this column and jump the torch, then avoid the scorpions as you keep climbing. Do a jump left from the second highest platform to reach the next one easily, but WATCH OUT for the fly while doing this. Jump right to another platform and collect the box of chalk to get told the following message. "I have collected a box of chalk." Jump to the larger platform to your right and wait on the right side, then carefully jump the torches while avoiding the beetle and fly when you land. Continue right and jump the gap, then enter the door to return outside. Jump right as you avoid a few enemies, then drop to the platforms below the small beetles. Follow them as they wind down right and back left, then drop down further and head right past a couple of frogs. Do a long jump right to the next platform as you meet up with another frog, then climb the series of platforms while avoiding a beetle. Jump left to the large platform and head right while avoiding some squids, then jump to the long ledge above. Head right and wait for the frog to jump the gaps, then run under him and jump across. Slowly work your way down past the scorpion and beetle until you reach some frogs, then ignore the frogs and drop below when the fly isn't in the way. Continue following the ledges down, then ride a nearby cloud across the gap and climb up past a squid and beetle. Enter the store by the beetle and buy at least three ogres [head back and get more tickets if needed], then leave the store and jump the gap to your right. Run under three frogs as you head right, then take a breath and enter the building to start the boss battle. ============== Stage 06: BOSS ============== This ghostly character is only slightly different from the other two bosses. He slowly comes towards you just like them, but hit attack is a close range electrical attack. Also he can only be hurt in the face, so you need to jump and shoot to damage him. However you can easily just activate an ogre scare and stand in one spot, jumping straight up and shooting him in the face. If you're fast you can even hit him once on the way up in a jump and then a second time on the way down. After two-three ogre scare's worth of shooting the boss should be dead. ############################################################################### (D-08) STAGE 07: HOUSE D ############################################################################### Ignore all three boxes [since they all have enemies inside] and approach Adam to get the following message. "It's Adam. What a loser. He can't see what he's doing without his glasses. He'll let me through if I find them for him." You picked up Adam's glasses a few stages back so press select to give them to him, then go up to the next area. This area is full of harps that teleport you elsewhere as pictured below: ------ ---- |KEY F| | C | -- | | -- ------- | | | | | | --- | | --- --- -- | | | | D | --- --- ---- |G | ------- ---- | E | | | ------- -- --- | B D E | | G| ------- | | ----- ---- | F | | | ------- -- --- | A B C | | A| ------- | | START ----- According to the picture above, the key that you need is in the top left room, but the door won't open until you've scared the two people in the top right area. So your first job is to avoid the floating door and other enemies as you work your way to harp/teleporter G. I recommend taking a detour to the S-shaped room with teleporters/harps C & D because you can get a pair of scares from the boxes there. Either way, once you've used teleporter/harp G you should use your scares on the pair of enemies and eat any beetles left behind. Now work your way to teleporter/harp F and open the door there. Grab the key and go all the way back to teleporter/harp G, then open that door and walk up to the green wall to end the stage. ############################################################################### (D-09) STAGE 08: AFTERLIFE ############################################################################### Head right and run under the frog, then jump the gap and carefully jump another frog. Walk to the right end of this platform and do a low jump to the ledge below, then jump the squids as you head right and grab the red number one. Carefully jump over the frog ahead and continue right, then jump up past the beetles and jump left to collect a red number two. Head left as you jump some scorpions and avoid the wire enemy, then jump the gap and carefully jump a pair of frogs. Head as far left as you can, then jump to the platform above and jump over the squid. Jump to the platform above with the beetle and grab the red number four to your left. Jump the squid once more and head right until you reach a frog, then grab the red number three beside it. Walk left enough that you see a jumping frog below you, then drop to it's ledge [just left of it]. Jump this frog as you head back right and low jump to avoid the wire enemy. Continue right as you jump the scorpions once more and avoid the wire enemy. Now jump to the platform on your right near the frog and scorpion. Carefully jump up past them to reach another wire enemy and scorpion, then carefully grab the red number five above the scorpion. Head left under three frogs before passing some cabinets above a tree, then watch a nearby beetle as you jump the gap. Try your best to get over these beetles without taking much damage, then continue right to a frog. Run under the frog and jump the gap, then jump to the platform on your left and jump right to a higher platform instead of the one directly above you. Watch the squid and avoid them if needed, then jump up the platforms on your left and onto the clouds above. Jump on any of the flies to get rid of them as you head right, then grab the red number six from the air. Continue right along the clouds while jumping on flies until you see some solid ground again. Jump to the ground and be careful of the fly and squid ahead, then jump the gap and go through the EXIT door to end the game and start the ending. ############################################################################### (E) ENDING ############################################################################### Beetlejuice walks out on stage and waves the peace sign, takes a bow and says the following. "It's the showman in me you know. I can't help it, I make it look too easy. Not too much applause please. I do three shows a day with little time to be praised. Well, I've got another booking now but, before I go, just remember this. If you need your local bio exorcist, just call my name three times." ############################################################################### (F) EXPERIMENTAL ############################################################################### For a little while now I've had a paypal link in all my FAQs at the very bottom here. Mainly as a small experiment since a few other FAQ authors have also had the same idea. I had a few people email me before I put this link in because they wanted to send money, so it's here for those people. I've been getting cases of energy drinks and making some excellent progress on a few FAQs & maps. If you don't want to send money or can't then send me an email, it's nice to hear what people thought about my work and there's always room for improvement. My email address and paypal address for those that want to contribute are both dan.engel.2017 (AT) gmail (DOT) com Many thanks, and I hope you continue to use my work! ~Dan
