The result was Shin Nippon Pro Wrestling: Toukon Sanjushi (New Japan Pro Wrestling: The Three Musketeers) an obscure Game Boy wrestling game which featured the appearances of New Japan's popular faction the Toukon Sanjushi (a stable comprised of Keiji Mutoh, Masahiro Chono and Shinya Hashimoto). While the concept seemed great on paper, the actual Game Boy port left much to be desired as Shin Nippon Pro Wrestling: Toukon Sanjushi removed many features (such as the timing based grapple and reversal engine, recognizable wrestlers) that helped define the Shin Nippon series on the Super Famicom. This FAQ covers: *all 3 regular characters *all special moves uncovered *secrets, tips & tricks ======================================================== ******CONTROLS****** ======================================================== =============== While standing: =============== A - Block B - Punch/Kick Tap left - Run backwards Tap right - Run forwards Up - climb top left or right ring ropes Up/Down/Left/Right + B - Grapple (when Grapple Icon appears) Up - re-enter from outside the bottom of the ring Down - exit the ring (when an opponent is thrown outside) =============== From top ropes: --------------- A/B - Top rope attack Down - Climb down turnbuckle ================================ While opponent is on the ground: ================================ A - Stomp B - Pick opponent up (at head of downed opponent) A + B - Pin A + B - Special (for certain wrestlers) ======================================================== ******GAMEPLAY****** ======================================================== ============= Grapple Icon: ============= Grapples are initiated through a "grapple icon" system. The grapple icon appears on screen for a few seconds when one of the following moves have been performed: * if a wrestler punches or kicks another wrestler 3 times in a row, the wrestler will be rewarded with a grapple icon to use on their opponent. * A wrestler blocks their opponent's punch/kick at the right time, the defensive wrestler will receive a grapple icon to use on their opponent. =================== Health/Stamina Bar: =================== The health and stamina bars are located at the bottom of the screen next to each wrestler's portrait in a match. The health bar indicates the remaining amount of energy a wrestler has (which cannot be recovered after taking damage). The Stamina bar indicates the amount energy required for a wrestler to be able to return to their feet after being thrown to the mat by the opponent. After a wrestler has been thrown to the mat or has missed a high flying top rope attack, the wrestler must then button mash the A, B and directional buttons in order for the stamina bar to recover; thus allowing the wrestler to return to their feet. The more damage a wrestler has received in the match, the more difficult it will be for the wrestler to replenish their stamina bar in a match. ======================================================== ******MATCH RULES****** ======================================================== Pinfall: when either wrestler reaches a pincount of 3, the pinned wrestler will lose the match under a pinfall. Give up: when a wrestler submits to the other wrestler's submission hold, the wrestler gives up and loses the match. Countout: when a wrestler remains outside the ring for the count of 20 seconds, the wrestler will lose the match under a countout. TIME UP: when a match exceeds the match time limit. The match will end in a Time Up where neither wrestler wins the match. Disqualification: when a wrestler remains on the top ropes for the count of 5 seconds, the wrestler will lose the match under disqualification. ======================================================== ******THE MODES****** ======================================================== At the main menu, the following two modes will be presented: *1 PLAYER **OPTION ======== 1 PLAYER ======== New Japan Pro Wrestling's champion Riki Choshu has just issued out a challenge to the Toukon Sanjushi (The Three Musketeers) Keiji Mutoh, Masahiro Chono and Shinya Hashimoto. But, before the Sanjushi can challenge the champ, they must first take on members of their own faction as well as two other hidden New Japan legends standing against them. Does the Toukon Sanjushi stand a stance? In 1 Player mode, the player must choose between one of three selectable characters: [ Keiji Mutoh ]: the high flying all-rounder. [ Mashario Chono ]: the best striker with a hard kick and a crushing submission special. [ Shinya Hashimoto ]: the slowest of the bunch with a short range but powerful assortment of grapples. ====== OPTION ====== GAME LEVEL: adjust the difficulty setting of the computer. - EASY - NORMAL (default) - HARD ROUND: choose the number of rounds each match will have. - [ROUND3] best of three rounds (default). - [ROUND1] one fall match. TIME: adjust the time limit of each match. - [3 MIN] (default) - [5 MIN] - [NONE] - no time limit EXIT - return to the main menu screen. ======================================================== ******THE WRESTLERS****** ======================================================== =========== KEIJI MUTOH =========== Nickname: Natural Born Master Height: 188 cm (6 ft, 2 in) Weight: 107 kg (235 lbs) Special moves: Moonsault - B (from top ropes - when grapple icon is activated) ________________________________________________ ============== MASAHIRO CHONO ============== Nickname: Mr. G1 Height: 188 cm (6 ft, 2 in) Weight: 108 kg ( Special moves: Kenka Kick - Up + B (front grapple) S.T.F. - A + B (while opponent is laying on the ground) ________________________________________________ ================ SHINYA HASHIMOTO ================ Nickname: King Of Destruction Height: 183 cm (6 ft) Weight: 135 kg (297 lbs) Special moves: DDT - Up + B (front grapple) Wheel Kick - B (while running) ________________________________________________ After defeating the two remaing wrestlers in 1 PLAYER mode, the following three unplayable hidden boss wrestlers are then presented: ============ HIROSHI HASE ============ Nickname: The Northern Light Height: 183 cm (6 ft) Weight: 105 kg (231 lbs) Special moves: Northern Lights Suplex ________________________________________________ ================ TATSUMI FUJINAMI ================ Nickname: The Dragon Height: 183 cm (6 ft) Weight: 105 kg (231 lbs) Special moves: Belly To Belly Suplex ________________________________________________ =========== RIKI CHOSHU =========== Nickname: Revolution Warrior Height: 184 cm (6 ft) Weight 120 kg (264 lbs) Special moves: Scorpion Deathlock ________________________________________________ ======================================================== ******SECRETS, TIPS & TRICKS****** ======================================================== =============== Top Rope Trick: =============== An easy way to drain the computer's health on the hardest difficulty is to pick Masahiro Chono and head towards the top left or right ropes (I prefer the left one, myself). Once positioned, wait for the opponent to come close enough and then press the A or B buttons to do a flying attack against the opponent. If timed correctly, the opponent will fall to the ground taking damage in the process. Once the opponent has taken enough damage, knock them down to perform Chono's finisher the S.T.F. (A + B) to make the opponent submit. =========================== Fight against Hiroshi Hase: =========================== Defeat all regular characters in 1 Player mode consecutively to face the first hidden boss wrestler: Hiroshi Hase. =============================== Fight against Tatsumi Fujinami: =============================== Defeat Hiroshi Hase in 1 Player mode to face the hidden boss wrestler: Tatsumi Fujinami. ========================== Fight against Riki Choshu: ========================== Defeat Hiroshi Hase and Tatsumi Fujinami in 1 Player mode to face the final hidden boss wrestler: Riki Choshu. ======================================================== ******CREDITS****** ======================================================== [Nintendo] - for creating the Game Boy video game system.
