Introduction to Tetris 2 / Button Controls ``'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`' Alright, this isn't the same Tetris you played when you were a little kid, it's not make a line across the screen with the shapes and watch it disappear. This my friends, is not that simple, different shapes, different goal, thus a different way to play! 7 Shapes, 3 colors, and a hell of a way to play. [Please note, I played the game on a cartridge on my GBA and NOT the original Gameboy Entertainment System, hence the colors differences of the blocks, otherwise it would have been presumably green, black, and tinted green for the colors that I will mention throughout this guide] Button Controls: During the game: Directional: Left and Right to move blocks, Down for a faster fall A or B Button: Rotate Blocks Start: Pause Select: No use A + B + START + SELECT will reset the game. Menu Screen: A, B, Start: Chose the selection Direction and Select: Change highlighted selection. ``'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`' II. Normal and Puzzle Screen Navigation ``'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`' Alright on the main menu you have the option of 1 Player and Versus, when you click the 1 Player choice, 2 choices come up, NORMAL and PUZZLE. Normal Screen: --------- - 1 P ------------------------------- --------- LOW MED HI - -SPEED - - ---------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------- -ROUND - !IIIIIIII!IIIIIIIII!IIIIIIIII!- ---------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------- -MUSIC - A B C OFF - ---------------------------------------- Alright, most of it pretty much speaks for itself. "SPEED" gone is the little table from the original Tetris with the speed ranging from 0 to 9, it's just now "LOW" "MED" and "HI". "ROUND" 30 levels, the higher the level the more blocks are already on the screen for you to deal with. "MUSIC" pick a track you enjoy! I personally enjoyed the tracks from the original Tetris game, but track's A and B aren't too bad, though I usually keep it off and listen to my own music. Puzzle Screen: --------- - PUZZLE ------------------------------- --------- AUTO MANUAL - -NEXT - - ---------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------- -ROUND - !IIIIIIII!IIIIIIIII!IIIIIIIII!- ---------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------- -MUSIC - A B C OFF - ---------------------------------------- Alright, just a little different. "ROUND" what level puzzle you want, 30 levels in all, higher level, harder puzzle. "MUSIC" Like I said before, pick a track you enjoy! I personally enjoyed the tracks from the original Tetris game, but track's A and B aren't too bad, though I usually keep it off and listen to my own music. Alright now, under the "NEXT" row, "AUTO" means you solve the puzzle in as little drops of blocks as possible to move on. "MANUAL" means you can screw around until you clear the screen, so "AUTO" is much more of a challenge but once you figure it out, it's as simple as just dropping a single block in the right place sometimes. ``'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`' III. Normal Strategy ``'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`' Alright, first take your time, seriously, don't think you can rush through and drop blocks and have everything work out, this isn't the original Tetris where all you needed to do was complete a horizontal line for it to disappear. If you use a shape that has blocks that stick out such as the "Y" shape, the 2 blocks that stick out can get "stuck" and will stay on other set of blocks, here let me show you an example. [W = White blocks / R = Red Blocks / O = Orange Blocks] Say this is setup so far on the screen: W R WOR And you have a "Y" shaped set of blocks coming up, with the color scheme as: R W O O Well you'd have to rotate it so it would fall like: O O W R W R WOR The white and red blocks would get "stuck" because they'd be stopped and hit first, and in a perfect situation such as that, 3 white blocks together, 3 red blocks together, both sets disappear, then the orange blocks follow too and that set would disappear. Now use some thought and creativity in a NOT SO perfect LOOKING situation. O RR O W [Oh no! The red and white blocks are close together, yes sets of 2, but what about that ugly looking white block all off to the right!] And you have an "I" shaped set of blocks coming up with the color scheme: ROWW Well drop it so it looks like: ROWW O RR O W The set of orange blocks would disappear and the red and 2 white blocks would fall then it would look like this: RRR WWW Then once again they'd all disappear because they're in a set of 3. Alright basically, not every situation will be perfect, BUT, keep in mind that after a block drops, be sure to look that if a set disappears where the remaining blocks will drop, you can setup some nice little combos that can kill off a bunch of blocks on your screen! Also keep in mind in situations where shapes with blocks that stick out come up, such as the "Y" shaped set of blocks, of the 2 blocks on the sides hit some other blocks first they'll stop there, but the rest will keep falling, keep that in mind as well as another way to setup some nice little combos. ``'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`' V. Puzzle Strategy ``'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`' This gets a little tricky, there are 30 puzzles to solve, and depending on what mode you try to complete them there can be an infinite amount of ways to solve each puzzle level. The most definite way, in which there is a combination in the order, or where to drop each shape is the "AUTO" mode, you need to drop the shapes in certain places in the least amount of drops to complete it, AND THERE IS a combination to it. Although in the "MANUAL" mode it's a lot like the "normal" style of play, only that there already a bunch of blocks on the screen, and you don't need to drop the shapes in certain places you can do as you wish, possibly solving a 1 drop puzzle in half an hour dragging it out doing things your own way. And because of this, as soon as you figure out how to solve each puzzle under the "AUTO" mode, that's it, although there are 30 levels. Yes, 30 levels, if I were to come out and make a chart of how the puzzle is set up and where to drop each shape, by the time this guide would finish loading you probably could have figured out how to solve each one yourself! So I'll just give a few pointers or hints to help you out on how to solve them on your own, since, really, they aren't too hard to figure out. -Look at the first shape they give you. -See where it could fit. -If it fits look at the color combination. -If you drop it will it make something disappear? -If it does, what falls? -Will it drop a block that can make another set of 3 disappear? That's about it, the puzzle portion of the game, it's quite fun, but once you figure out how to beat it, that's it, just one last little piece of advice, for the most part, look closely, it's usually as simple as dropping a certain block in an obvious place, so obvious you might miss it. Just remember, a lot of the strategies you used under the normal mode, apply to the puzzle mode as well. ``'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`' VI. Versus Strategy ``'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`' Alright when you chose "VERSUS" and when you goto "1P VS COM" the screen will have 3 boxes, "EASY" "MEDIUM" and "HARD" which different animals on them. The next screen should look a lot like the "normal" "1P" screen except instead of 1P it will say 1P VS COM, and you set it up just like you would a normal game, picking the speed and round for you and the computer. [Note in "1P VS 2P" it's the same only it's another person, not the computer, and they choose their own speed and whatnot] To be honest, you play it a lot like you would a "normal game" except that you need to think a lot quicker, and try and make those combinations happen. Before in normal mode, or in "manual" mode in the puzzle mode you could take your time and get rid of blocks 3 at a time, well here, you stack on those combo's and get 6 blocks gone at once, it can speed up the fall of the computers or second player's blocks, as well as lowering the ceiling giving them less room to work with, which can be a real hassle. So really, just follow the strategies from the normal mode, but be quicker. You have maybe 2 white blocks on top of each other and you have a "I" shaped set of blocks containing all white blocks and you drop it on top vertical, getting rid of 6 blocks at once, it can lower the ceiling and make your adversary's blocks fall faster, but be wary they can do the same to you! :) ``'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`' VII. Final Words ``'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`' First, whoo! My first real FAQ, well technically this is the third "FAQ" I've written, the previous two being Soundtrack Guides for Final Fantasy Tactics as well as for Final Fantasy XI, but yes, I can finally say I've written a "real" FAQ. And it was a hell of an experience, but a good one. ``'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`'`' VIII.
