Welcome (1.00) _________________ Welcome to my Darkened Skye FAQ for the Nintendo Gamecube. I decided to make this FAQ because I saw a lot of people needing help with this game. I hope the information helps you successfully get through Darkened Skye. Let's begin! Oh, and in case you're wondering, this game really does have Skittles in it. __________________________ II. Version History (2.00) __________________________ Version .50: May 19, 2003 Up to Tiniki Swamp on walkthrough, Sections IX and XII are the most incomplete and will be updated soon. Version .52: May 23, 2003 This was actually a series of smaller updates throughout the course of a few days. The changes dealt with spelling, grammar, and format, so no actual content was added. Version .53: May 27, 2003 I finally have the correct path order for the Ogmire Swamp! Thanks to Animegirl929 for this information! ___________________________ III. About this guide (3.00) ____________________________ ======== Legend (3.10) ======== Different headings around the sections in this FAQ mean different things. The format is this way to assist you in navigating this guide with greater ease. Headings: _______ This denotes main sections and general topics. ======== This denotes middle sections; those sections that are a subsection of the main topic but includes smaller sections within them. This type of heading is mostly used to separate the different worlds in the walkthrough. ~~~~~~~~ This type of heading surrounds the smallest subsections including the different "Parts" of the walkthrough. ================= About this guide (3.20) ================ ~~~~~~~~~~~ Navigation ~~~~~~~~~~~ This guide is set up to utilize the Find feature on computers for easy navigation. Open the find feature in your browser's Edit menu, and scroll to the Table of Contents. Each Roman Numeral section has a number such as 1.00 next to it in parentheses. Subsections of that Roman Numeral have a number similar to 5.10. Even smaller subsections are denoted by numbers bearing a resemblance to 7.24. Look at the number next to the section you wish to find, and type it into the search box (with the parentheses). Select "Match whole word only" and make the search direction "Up." It should take you right where you want to be. ~~~~~~~~~ Spoilers ~~~~~~~~~ Due to the fact this guide will be a full FAQ/Walkthrough when completed, it will contain spoilers. To avoid encountering spoilers in the walkthrough (Section VIII), simply do not read very far ahead of where you are in the game. A general rule of thumb is not to read past the Part you're currently on. The Characters section (Section IV) may also contain spoilers as may the Quotes and Notes section (Section XIII). If you really despise spoilers, read these two sections with caution. ______________________ IV. Characters (4.00) ______________________ ======= Major (4.10) ======= Skye: Pronunciation: As in the word "sky". Gender: Female Physical description: Tall and slim, Skye has fiery orange hair and eyes. (Perhaps due to the orange Skittles? It's pure speculation, but it's possible.) Her clothing of choice is a black sleeveless shirt and black pants, perfect for all the running she'll be doing. Background and information: The main character in Darkened Skye, Skye is a dwentil herder who happened to find a mysterious object (an orange Skittle) lying around. Determined to find out what exactly it is and why it is such an enormous deal, Skye leaves her fellow dwentil herders and ventures out with only her staff to protect her. Necroth: Pronunciation: Nec-ra-ah-th (As in the word "neck" in the first syllable.) Gender: Male Physical description: You never see him until the end, so I don't have one yet. If you do, please email it to me. (See section XVI: "Contacting me".) Information and Background: An evil sorcerer, Necroth captured all the Skittles and forbid anyone but himself from using their powers. Using his power to rain havoc on the earth, Necroth sent hideous beasts into the world to make sure his absolute power remained intact. Draak: Pronunciation: D-ra-ack Gender: Male Physical description: Draak has a thin, wrinkled body that is blood red. Fragile wings shot out from his back allowing him to, err, flutter. His eyes are a brilliant blue. Information and background: Draak lives right by Necroth's castle, but they apparently had issues so he is helping Skye. Drake can be annoying sometimes, but his vast knowledge of the creatures and people of the world proves very useful indeed. He inhabits Skye's staff during her long, arduous journey. Mariam: Pronunciation: Mary-em (Like the word "marry" and the name of the letter m.) Gender: Female Physical description: I don't believe you ever see her... Information and Background: To Skye she was just "Mom", a traveling merchant, but Mariam's life is fair from simple. She is, in truth, the head of the Keepers of Rainbow, a group pledged to use the Five Ancient Prisms to restore the Rainbow. Two years before the start of the story, she left Skye and has yet to return. ======= Minor (4.20) ====== Eeb: Pronunciation: Gender: Male Physical description: Eeb bears a strong resemblance to an elf, pointy ears and all. His skin is a pock-marked tan, and he wears a simple tunic. Background and information: Eeb is a slightly eccentric merchant who deals in rare and exotic creatures from the different worlds. He is load and expressive. (Apparently, he's a fan of Jerry McGuire as well.) Gannish: Pronunciation: Ga-ann-ish Gender: Female Physical description: Gannish is not in the best physical shape, thus she carries a cane and hunches over. With wrinkled her green skin, she looks somewhat like an overweight female version of Yoda. Background and information: Gannish in an old, wise hobbit who lives in a secluded village and possesses almost unsurpassed knowledge of Skittles. Her desire to stop Necroth's evil doing leads her to share her vast knowledge with Skye. Sea Riders: Pronunciation: Just the words "sea" (see) and "rider" (ra-i-der) Gender: Male or female Physical description: Sea Riders have almost metallic green and blue skin. Background and information: These creatures zoom around the waters of Ogmire on things that resemble jet skis. They, too, oppose Necroth and his minions but are unable to help Skye directly. Merlin: Pronunciation: M-er-l-in Gender: Male Physical description: Merlin is very old, and his appearance reflects that. He is somewhat stooped and has short gray hair. He wears a long dark purple robe and carries a wooden staff. Background and information: Merlin must be very old, for he can remember back to the times when Skittles still fell onto the lands. A member of the Keepers of the Rainbow," Merlin provides Skye with valuable information about the locations of the Ancient Prisms. He lives only in a hut in a secluded part of Ogmire. Nenu: Pronunciation: Ne-nu (The second syllable as the same as the English word "new.") Gender: Female Physical description: Nenu looks fairly similar to a human minus her pointy ears. She has blackish-brown hair and wears a dress. Background and information: "Nenu" is actually a shortened version of this character's real, unpronounceable name. Like most inhabitants of the Tiniki Swamp, Nenu is somewhat melancholy. __________________ V. Hints and tips (7.00) _________________________ These are some miscellaneous hints and tips to help you further your success in Darkened Skye. (1) Line up your jumps perfectly; the slightest misstep could result in Skye's death. (2) Interact with every glowing object or person you see. (3) Don't just look straight ahead; look at the ground and sky for things you may have missed. (4) Don't skip cutscenes. Most provide valuable information; at the very least, the dialogue is humorous. (5) Listen for monsters. You may not be able to see them until they start attacking, but you'll usually hear them when they are still a way off. (6) You can run faster with your staff on your back, but always be prepared for combat, especially in unfamiliar areas. (7) When walking around, always set the item to a nonperishable one. You don't want to accidentally waste a valuable item by pressing the wrong button in the heat of combat. (8) The health and Skittles bar both regenerate on their own, though the health bar does so at a much slower rate. (9) If you get suck, check the Notes section in the Quests, Quotes, and Notes menu for hints and tips. (10) If possible, have multiple save files in case you save in a bad situation. (11) Save and save often! You never know what's around the corner. _________________________ VIII. Walkthrough (8.00) _________________________ ========== A. Lynlora (8.10) =========== ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Part 1: The path to the village (8.11) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ When the game starts out, Skye will be facing forward on a path. Turn around and retrieve the ruin from above the tree stump. After that, go straight down the path, and you'll meet up with Drake. He explains to you that he used to be one of Mycroft's minions but has "issues" with him. Skye, though, she seems to think he is annoying, agrees to let him accompany her on her quest. After the cutscence ends, get out your staff immediately to prepare for your first battle. A group of blue-green creatures will come up and attack Skye. When attacking this type of monster, attack the one immediately in front of you first. They aren't that accurate, so if you back away occasionally you shouldn't take too much damage. Next comes the slightly confusing part. The path consists of several series of branches, which can leave you wondering what path to take. The answer is quite simple: you must take ALL of the paths. Your first objective should be collecting the rumble stone. To find it, go down the first path on the right and look for the silver box atop the tree stump. Now comes the time to explore all the paths. By doing this you find items (mostly gold runes and health powerups) and get valuable practice attacking and defending. On one of the paths you will find a hollow log. It may seem intriguing, but you can't do anything with it yet. After you get your health bar as full as you can, move on to the next step. Your next concern should be finding the key. Keep going the down paths to the left until you get attacked by a group of monsters. This group is led by a huge blue monster holding a key. This monster is definitely more powerful than any of the ones you've faced so far and is surrounded by a huge number of minions. You could defeat him yourself by a mixture of dodging his attacks with rapid fire movements and luck, but if you're really having trouble with him, I recommend you use a gold ruin. Just set it down, run away, and wait for it to explode. Finish off any surviving monsters and walk through the key to pick it up. Walk down the path to the left and you should hear a crackling sound. A cutscence will begin with Drake explaining that this is the portal that Necroth uses to funnel his minions (including Drake) into the world. Following the cutscence, go look at the large tree in the middle of the path. Adjust the camera until you see an odd-looking creature standing in the hollow of the tree (Drake calls it a "red-breasted buttmiller") and pick it up. Follow the stone path to enter the village. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Part 2: The dangerous village, the insane market place, and the black cave (8.12) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The first thing you'll notice about this village is that you keep getting shot by archers in the trees. The village has a crossbow, but, unfortunately, you don't have any ammo (and you won't get any for quite a while), so just try your best to stay out of harm's way and pick up healing plants when you find them. Go to the village marketplace by traveling south. When you get there, you find it is deserted with the exception of two traders. First talk to the vendor in the booth. He presents himself as a shopkeeper dealing mainly in strange, exotic creatures. Well, considering Drake named your find, I'd say it counts as an exotic creature. Anyway, set it down on the counter and the shopkeeper will trade you has Glow Fish for it. Next, talk to the green merchant hiding the wagon twice. She will tell you that monsters came in and attacked the village, frightening away the villagers and merchants. She will also mention that the monsters have hid a secret in the cave in the surrounding area. Armed with this new information (and your Glow Fish), head to the cave. Follow a narrow path northwest of the village, but be very wary of the pit to your left, as falling off it means automatic death. The land surrounding the cave is covered with platforms of varying heights. Before venturing into the cave, hop around to acquire the three bottles of healing potion. After these very helpful items are in your possession, jump across the platforms to reach the cave entrance. Skye refuses to enter the cave without some source of light, so equip the Glow Fish and press X. The first thing you see is a large stone door with a pitch fork lying next to it. As intriguing as it may seem, Drake informs you that you can not yet complete that puzzle, so go over to the rock pile positioned against the cave wall. Skye can see some writing on the wall but can't decipher the whole message. To clear the rocks, set down the silver ruin stone, and run a fair amount of distance away to avoid injury. Following the explosion, walk over and examine the inscription. Written in "backwards speak", it reads "Send us all to prism." Have Skye exit the cave and head back to the village. Go up the wooden steps to a house nestled in a tree. When you try to open the door, the occupant will ask for a password. Interact with the door once more; Skye will say the password and be let in. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Part 3: The truth behind the Skittles (8.13) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Skye's host is a grizzled old hobbit by the name of Gannish. She identifies the orange object that Skye founds to be an extremely rare orange Skittles. Gannish explains that Skittles once rained down from rainbows quite frequently and can grant the user powerful new abilities. The evil sorcerer Necroth came to power, banning all the people throughout the land from possessing Skittles or using their powers, with the sole exception of Necroth himself. However, Necroth did not succeed fully in his plan; some people still possessed Skittles, such as Gannish, the guardian of the Red and Yellow Skittles. Gannish tells Skye it is her duty to put a halt to Necroth's evil plans. Outside of her house, Gannish uses Skittles to bind Necroth's portal shut temporarily. After Gannish gives Skye the Red and Yellow Skittles, she instructs Skye to "see the truth" and find to sacred circle that would grant her passage to the land of Ogmire. Following the conclusion of the cutscence, move Skye out of range of the archers and access the Skittles menu. Put the Red and Yellow Skittles in the appropriate slots to gain access to "True Sight". Travel to the village's entrance, picking up healing flowers as needed. Use True Sight near the pillars at the entrance. You'll see signs glittering, but instead of reading them, look downward to find the sacred circle. Upon stepping foot in the portal, Skye will encounter a strange man. After several failed attempts to recall Skye's name, the strange introduces himself as Eeb, an old friend of Skye's mother. He will given a few cryptic hints concerning Skye's past and leaves abruptly. You'll then be transported to Ogmire. =========== B. Ogmire (8.20) =========== ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Part 1: Welcome to Ogmire, press switches galore! (8.21) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ogmire is a dark and gloomy place, an archipelago filled with secret paths and strange creatures. As luck would have it, Skye can't swim, so you are going to have to find other ways to island hop. First, work your way around the edge of the water until you find a switch on the side of a large stone. Either interact with it or hit it with your staff and then circle back around the path. When you get back to the starting point, you'll see that a cave entrance has emerged from the back wall. Inside the cave, you'll meet a strange hermit. After several rounds of spouting out nonsensical metaphors, he will finally tell you that you have arrived in Ogmire. He will also tell you to find Merlin to continue your quest and hand you a Merlin's Scroll filled with incomprehendable writing. Upon walking out of the cave, you will be attacked by a group of monsters. These guys are fast and strong, but as long as you don't let them surround you, you should be fine. Go to the right and press the button on the wall. Following that, go to the water's edge where you'll meet up with a Sea Rider. Through Drake's translation, you learn that the Sea Riders also oppose Necroth's evil doings but are unable to live on land, thus you must find a way to reach them. (Arrgh, why can't they all just come to the same place?!) All the Sea Riders meet up with you on different islands with you must jump to via rocks or Spongites. A Spongite is an item you throw out in water to make a temporary platform. Use Spongites wisely, and learn to gauge the distance Skye can jump. First off, though, use the rocks that appeared when you hit the switch to jump to the huge island in the center of the sea. A few monsters are awaiting your arrival with sharpened claws. Take out the ground based ones and then collect the healing flowers as needed. You will also notice a monster swooping down from the sky and attacking you periodically. This is painfully annoying, but unless you get lucky and are able to smack it with your staff just as it is about to attack you, it's out of your control for now. Go around the edges of the island, picking up Spongnites and doing your best to avoid the sea worms that always pop out of the water. Hit the switch on the side of one of the pillars to create another path of rocks. Take the path that is the least surrounded by sea worms to reach an island where you'll encounter another Sea Rider. Finding the other Sea Riders is more of a waste of a waste of time than it is useful being as the stuff they tell you is slightly randon and nonsensical. Rather focus on opening a pathway to the large island with dark green grass. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Part 2: Yay, two more Skittles! (8.22) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The yellow Skittles is just sitting out in the open on the lush green island, but the green one is fairly tricky to get. Where is it, you ask? Why, it's inside the green turtle just off the island's shore. To get it, use Spongites to get relatively close to it and then jump so you just barely skim the edge of its mouth. This task is made even more difficult because the place you most jump from is located next to a sea worm. Once you successfully accomplish this task; Skye will be spit back onto land holding a green Skittles in immaculate condition. GLITCH ALERT: If you jump into the turtle's mouth from the side, you will still go in it but will drown. After getting both Skittles, go to the Skittles menu and activate Prismic Pulse. Stand on the island's ledge, and shoot the switch with the Prismic Pulse. Jump down from the ledge and into the first stone. Kill the flying monsters using Prismic Pulse and then jump to the large Island. Upon reaching the island, go in the cave to flip the switch but DON'T go all the way through it. Rather, go around the side of the island and take out the three beasts that attack you. Go through the next cave you see and kill the new flying monster before departing to your next challenge. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Part 3: Island hopping (8.23) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Ahh, yes...You better be skilled at jumping if you hope to get through this part of Ogmire. Anyway, you must jump from island to island avoiding sea worms and hazardous water (Actually, the "islands" in this part are really nothing more than larger-than-normal rocks, but they suffice.) There are three branches you can choose from to reach the next island. One is fairly hazard-free, but the other two will almost certainly result in Skye's demise. Pick the path that causes two sea worms to attack you (either the middle or the right, I can't recall which.) Kill them with your Prism Pulse and move on. TIP: If you stand on the extreme left or right side of the rock only one sea worm will be able to attack you at a time, thus greatly lowering the amount of damage you take. A general rule of thumb is to save at every island then try a path until you find one that doesn't result in Skye's death. The correct pathes, in order, are: left left right right middle left (Thank you to Animegirl929 gor giving me this much needed information!) To reach the large island, take the middle path. Before going on land, however, take out the claw monsters from a distance with Prismic Pulse. It may seem tedious, but if you don't do it, the monsters are more than likely to rip Skye to shreds. After taking them out, leap on the island and head up the spiral path. Jump in the dark pit (Yes, it is counter-intuitive, but trust me on this.) After recovering from the fall, hit the switch and take out the sea worms and use Spongites to exit the cave. Climb up another winding road and look around until you see a cave that has just become accessible. Go through it and take down the flying beast before proceeding the jump to the next island, which will require three Spongites. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Part 4: Switches puzzle (8.24) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Arrive on this island to be attacked by yet more enemies. Yay! Anyhow, take out the flying beast (At least, you get a healing potion this time.) Clear the island of monsters by taking out the gray claws on the east side, then turn your attention to the numerous switches covering the island. First, strike the switch that looks something like this: - - - - | - - | - - - - | It's located near the place where you fought the gray claws. Next, go the extreme west side of island and hit the switch over there. You'll find the third switch near the first one but on the opposite wall. After pressing it, a cave will open up. Go through it and walk to the house to start a cutscence. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Part 5: Great, a death threat (8.25) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ As Skye approaches the house, a white robotic monster appears and threatens her life. Merlin comes outside and chases it away but not before the mystery agent promises that he and Skye will meet again. Merlin tells Skye that she is hunted heavily by Necroth's minions not only because of her discovery of the Orange Skittles but also due to her family connections. Skye's mother was apparently not the normal traveling merchant Skye always assumed her to be but, in truth, was actually the leader of a group of people determined to defeat Necroth. Calling themselves the Keepers of the Rainbow, they set out to reunite the five Ancient Prisms that were the source of the rainbow's power. For hundreds of years, the Ancient Prisms remained carefully sealed away until they faded from the minds of the people. Now, those Prisms are the only way to bring the rainbow, and therefore the Skittles back to lands. Merlin informs Skye that she must collect all five Ancient Prisms and place them in the pendent her mother left her. He tells her that the Yellow Prism is hidden somewhere in a ancient city in the Tiniki Swamp, where Skye is then transported. ======================== C. Tiniki Swamp (Ogmire) (8.30) ======================== ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Part 1: Watch out, killer cows...I mean, insects. (8.31) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Right off the bat, it's oblivious that getting through Tiniki Swamp in one piece won't be an easy task. Fight off any monsters that attempt to harm you and then jump across the river. Defeat the creatures who attempt to put an end to Skye's journey then and there. Look for the person standing in the middle of the area and talk to them. Draak will offer his somewhat fractured translation services and introduce the person as Nenu. After the conversion, go to the large ravine filled with swamp water. You have to use the lily pads to cross to the other side, but if you stay on them too long or jump on them twice, they'll sink, taking you with them. Maneuver carefully but quickly to the other side, picking up the healing potion along the way. Upon reaching the other side, talk to man over by the trees. (After you kill any enemies, of course, but do I have to tell you that any more?) Wait for your health bar to fill up than go in the forest but be prepared for one confusing trip. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~To be continued~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ___________________ IX. Skittles (9.00) ____________________ ================== Obtaining Skittles (9.10) =================== Here is a brief run down of how to obtain all the Skittles I've acquired so far. For more detailed information, please see the section of the walkthrough noted in parentheses. Orange Land: Lynlora How to obtain: You have this in your possession at the start of the game. You can access it in the Skittles menu after you talk to Gannish. (8.13) Red Land: Lynlora How to obtain: You get this after talking to Gannish. (8.31) Yellow Land: Ogmire How to obtain: This is on the island by the turtle. You can't miss it. (8.22) Green Land: Ogmire How to obtain: After receiving the Yellow Skittles, jump into the mouth of turtle. It will spit Skye back out, Green Skittles in hand. =============== Using Skittles (9.20) =============== Once you have two or more Skittles, go to the Skittles Menu. (See section VI for more details on the menus.) Select the Skittles power you wish to use and activate it by pressing Y. You can now use it during gameplay by pressing the Z button. Each time you use a Skittles power, the blue meter in the lower corner of the screen will go down. When it is empty, no Skittles powers can be used. This bar will replenish itself fairly quickly, but you can hasten the process by using a blue potion or touching a blue healing plant. It is possible to have more than one Skittles power with the slots filled at one time; however, only the one activated first can be used in gameplay. The exception to this rule is True Sight. After the True Sight is active, you can go back to Skittles menu and activate another Skittles power, usually an offensive one. ================ Skittles powers (9.30) =============== True Sight Required Skittles: Red and Orange Type: Defensive Power used: About one forth of the meter What it does: Allows you to see hidden objects and read signs Prismic Pulse Required Skittles: Green and Yellow Type: Offensive Power used: Very little What is does: Shoots multicolored beams a long distance Strategies and tactics: While you can use this to hit switches from a distance, it is one of your most valuable tools for attacking enemies, especially airborne ones. Aim in the general area of your target. Wait for the target to pass through the silver circle and fire rapidly. __________________ X. Quotes and notes (11.00) ____________________________ ========== Legal note (11.10) ========== These are not MY words; they are the words of the developers, who placed them in the Quotes and Notes Menu. Also, the grammar mistakes were put in there by the developers. Again, these are not MY words, and these are typed almost exactly how they appear on the game. ======= Notes (11.20) ======== That orange thing I found has strange powers. (Mild understatement-look what it did to my staff!) Brightly colored, rounded, polished like a gem...I wonder what it could be. Wow, I can run faster when I put my staff on my back! Go figure. Wandering off and leaving the dwentils behind is an iffy career move. But then, I'm not exactly elbowing for a management position on the dwentil-herding team, I am? IT'S TIME THIS GAL HAD AN ADVENTURE. Words I'm rock-solid-sure I'll never regret. Found something called a Rune Mine. Legend has it that it should not be used for battling practice. Great, now there's a gargoyle that hangs around inside my staff. (Is this what they mean by a "staff infection"? Sorry.) Actually, he's kinda cute-goes by the name of Draak. Beats traveling alone, I guess. My staff kicks some serious butt now. Might be a tad perky for dwentil-herding now, though. Hmm, I wonder what else it can do... That stone I found is vibrating strangely. Must be a Rumble Stone. I've heard that workers sometimes use them to clear away loose stonework. Unscrupulous dentists use them as well. **** I'm weirdly drawn to that hallow log in the forest. Oh well, forget about it for now. It's too small inside. I can't fit through it-not unless I start chugging diet shakes really fast. **** I'd just LOVE to enter that pitch-black, scary, stinking cave, but I can't see Jack in there. 'Course maybe Jack's not there. Hee. **** There's been a nasty rupture in the space-time continuum-I hate when that happens. Evil creatures are pouring in from another dimension. Also, I think I may have torn a hangnail. **** I'll have to remember to check the marketplace from time to time. Never know what bargains might turn up in a time of transdimensional chaos. **** Wish I knew the password to the weird house with the weird lady inside (Gannish) **** Maybe that writing I couldn't read before will be magically readable with the True Sight spell. Maybe there will be many pieces of such writing throughout this adventure. Hey, I said maybe-that makes it a hint, not a dead giveaway. **** Once I find that Sacred Circle, though, I'm pretty much committed to this whole "quest." So I still have time to change my mind. Mom, what would you do? Why can't you be here to help me with this? **** Gannish sealed off the interdeminsional-portal-thingambob (I would have done it, but she beat me to it). How long will it stay sealed, though? Time may be a-wastin'. **** Hey self, figure out how to make magic, okay? (Oh, and would you be a doll and save the world while you're at it, hon? Thanks a bunch.) **** Cold and wet. These are adjectives that describe a healthy dog's nose. I am not a dog's nose. Dang, it's chilly in here! **** Who was that guy at the Sacred Circle? Claims to be a friend. Claims to know my mother. They say "beware the wymdrake and dwentil's clothing." Or something like that. **** Merlin must be the wise dude Gannish told me to find. She said he has a plain for restoring the Rainbow. And that would be a good thing, right? **** Handy Travel Tip 7: Next time you win a vacation package to a freakish, barren archipelago completely surrounded by water, TAKE A SWIMMING LESSON FIRST. **** Those fish riders sure have an unique way of getting around in the water. Boy, it'd be fun to exploit them for profit in a giant artificial pool at Sea Park. Whoa, where did THAT horrible thought come from? I MEAN boy, it'd be fun to try that out for myself. **** I found a spongite, some kind of mollusk-critter-veggie-gumblob-thingoid. It looks a trifle dehydrated. **** I have a new SKITTLES in my magic-making kit! **** Jumping into that Whale-critter's open mouth would be suicidal. But hey, I'm Skye of Lynlora-my life has a "save game" feature. **** Two new SKITTLES in my magic kit! I'll have to fool around with them soon. **** Methinks not all spells work on all creatures. Me-also-thinks that maybe I can use spells in combination to beat certain baddies. Me-smart. **** The message I could not see without first using magic told me that I must first use magic in order to see messages. (i.e. "You cannot get inside without a ticket." "Where do I get a ticket?" "Inside.") **** So my mother was a rebel leader with a secret plan for re-uniting the Five Ancient Prisms in order to re-forge the Great Rainbow from which all magic flows. Maybe that's why she was reluctant to open up on Parent Career Day. I still remember the day she left, almost two years ago. She told me it would be her last merchant voyage, then we'd be together forever. But she gave me this 5-part talisman. Part of her must have known she would never be back. She called it her "reunion piece." I thought she was talking about mother-daughter reunions, but now I see she was talking about ancient prisms. **** And, hey, who was that scary mystery dude with the caffeine poisoning that Merlin chased away? What does he have against me? (Not his filthy mitts, I hope.) **** Wonder where the so-called "heart of the forest" could be? Leanin' toward somewhere IN THE FOREST. **** Does everything in this forest look the same to me or are my eyes playing tricks on me? **** If I want to catch a magical musical bug I should find a proper container, one that'll let in a little O2. 'Cause if smothering magical bug isn't bad karma, I don't know what is. ======= Quotes (11.30) ======= Draak: "Easy, sister. I'm on your side. Call me Draak. Though Necroth'd call me Dim Sum right about now..." "I happen to live near the neck of his eternal chaos. I hitched a ride here with his minions. They're Necroth's special forces. They know about your little orange 'discovery and they're here to lighten your load..." "He-Whose-Face-May-Not-Be-Glimpsed and I have 'issues'." **** Draak: "Now go to the village. Find this old woman named Gannish. She can tell you about that orange thing of yours that has everyone's woolies in a bunch." **** Sign on Catapult: "This weapon and its ordinances have been seized." **** Draak: "That's where I came through with the others. Necroth can tear holes in reality like a cheap tunic." **** Eeb: "Necroth set in his heavy-hitters. The swept through here in a wave, searching for someone, scaring away my customers." "I'm Eeb, merchant of the bizarre and extraordinary. I travel from world to world, collecting only the finest in rare and exotic fauna." **** Password on the cave wall: "Send us all to prism." **** Gannish: "Only them what's got the password can enter here." **** Gannish: "If you think you're taking this old biddy without a tussle, I got one word for you-ZANABANANDA!!!!...It can't be, I haven't seen one of those since...By the Great Rainbow-that, my strange young sapling is a Skittles." "I know who you are lass. The question is: do you?" Me: "I'm Skye of Lynlora. I never knew my father, but my mother was a traveling merchant." Gannish: "Facts, pish. Do you know who you really are? You have volumes to learn and but a turn of the page in which to do it. Sit, sit, sit..." "What's the matter, sapling? Viper plant got your tongue? A rainbow, that's what it is. Don't stare at me like I'm the back end of a dwentil. Rainbows were real. And when they appeared, so did the SKITTLES. Raining forth like colored hail..." _____________________________ XII.
