If you played Mario Kart 64 on the Nintendo 64, you'll like this game. In Mario Kart Double Dash!! you'll have 2 characters on 1 kart. It seemed like the name of the game came from all of the doubling going on. In this FAQ, I'll be explaining this game and everything you need to know about it. I'll help you out on how to complete each of the difficult courses and the different game modes you can play. If you got problems, don't go crying to me. I'll explain this on the 'E-Mail Policy' topic. Enough chatting, lets get started. ======================================================================== 2: E-Mail Policy If you're going to e-mail me, you must follow these guidelines. 1. I won't accept information that I already have on this FAQ. If you're going to waste my time and e-mail me, it must not be in this FAQ. I HATE answering questions I've already answered. Before e-mailing me, read the whole FAQ. If you don't see what you want, then e-mail me. Be careful though, because sometimes, I'll update this FAQ and the e-mails you send me might be useless to me by then. 2. Subject The e-mails you send me MUST be on this game. If your e-mail doesn't do anything with this game, then I'll just get rid of it. If I receive an e-mail from you, I'll write you back. If I don't receive your e-mail, then I won't write back. It's as simple as that. 3. Credit If you find anything that I never found, please e-mail me. I'll add it to my FAQ. However, don't write anything that I find first, I'll just remove it. If you do find anything (tips, tricks, etc.), please e-mail me. Follow these guidelines and everything will be okay. Thanks for your cooperation. E-Mail me at TPitch@twcny.rr.com. ======================================================================== 3: Basics Before playing, you need to know the basics of this game. This section will explain everything you need to know. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 3.1: Controls There are 3 different controls in this game. Single Player, CO-OP Driver, and CO-OP Thrower. Each has their own different controls and features that you'll have to master. There are some controls that can only be used in CO-OP mode however. Here are the controls. ************************************************************************ Single Player A Button......................................................Accelerate B Button...................................................Brake/Reverse Y Button....................................Use Items/Stop Item Roulette X Button....................................Use Items/Stop Item Roulette Z Button................................................Switch Positions L Button...........................................................Drift R Button...........................................................Drift Control Stick......................Steer/Throw items forward or backward Start/Pause..................................Pauses Game (Player 1 only) C Stick.........................................................Not Used Control Pad.....................................................Not Used ************************************************************************ CO-OP Driver A Button......................................................Accelerate B Button...................................................Brake/Reverse Y Button............................................Send Item to Thrower X Button............................................Send Item to Thrower Z Button...................Switch (If both positions press the Z Button) L Button...........................................................Drift R Button...........................................................Drift Control Stick......................................................Steer Start/Pause..................................Pauses Game (Player 1 only) C Stick.........................................................Not Used Control Pad.....................................................Not Used ************************************************************************ CO-OP Thrower A Button...................................Use Items/Perform Double Dash B Button.......................................................Use Items Y Button....................................Use Items/Stop Item Roulette X Button....................................Use Items/Stop Item Roulette Z Button...................Switch (If both positions press the Z Button) L Button...............................................Left Slide Attack R Button..............................................Right Slide Attack Control Stick............................Throw items forward or backward Start/Pause..................................Pauses Game (Player 1 only) C Stick.........................................................Not Used Control Pad.....................................................Not Used ************************************************************************ Double Dash: This can only be used in CO-OP mode. If both the driver and thrower hit the A Button at the same time on the green light, you might get a boost that's better than a Turbo Start. Slide Attack: This can only be used in CO-OP mode. The thrower can perform a move that can cause karts to spin out and drop their items. If the thrower isn't holding an item, he/she can steal an item from their opponent. This move could distract the driver however, so don't use it unless you need to. Drifting: Although it's normally used to make 180 degree turns, you'll also be using it to make sharp turns. If you turn the sparks behind the kart blue, you'll get a Mini-Turbo when you stop drifting. Turbo Start: If you hit the A Button immediately once the green light shows, you'll get a Turbo Boost in which can be used to pass over 5 or 6 karts. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 3.2: Characters ************************************************************************ Mario Class: Medium Default Partner: Luigi Special Item: Fireballs Kart: Red Fire ************************************************************************ Luigi Class: Medium Default Partner: Mario Special Item: Fireballs Kart: Green Fire ************************************************************************ Peach Class: Medium Default Partner: Daisy Special Item: Heart Kart: Heart Coach ************************************************************************ Daisy Class: Medium Default Partner: Peach Special Item: Heart Kart: Bloom Coach ************************************************************************ Yoshi Class: Medium Default Partner: Birdo Special Item: Egg Kart: Turbo Yoshi ************************************************************************ Birdo Class: Medium Default Partner: Yoshi Special Item: Egg Kart: Turbo Birdo ************************************************************************ Bowser Class: Heavy Default Partner: Bowser Jr. Special Item: Bowser's Shell Kart: Koopa King ************************************************************************ Bowser Jr. Class: Light Default Partner: Bowser Special Item: Bowser's Shell Kart: Bullet Blaster ************************************************************************ Donkey Kong Class: Heavy Default Partner: Diddy Kong Special Item: Giant Banana Kart: DK Jumbo ************************************************************************ Diddy Kong Class: Light Default Partner: Donkey Kong Special Item: Giant Banana Kart: Barrel Train ************************************************************************ Wario Class: Heavy Default Partner: Waluigi Special Item: Bob-Omb Kart: Wario Car ************************************************************************ Waluigi Class: Medium Default Partner: Wario Special Item: Bob-Omb Kart: Waluigi Racer ************************************************************************ Koopa Class: Light Default Partner: Paratroopa Special Item: Triple Green Shells/Triple Red Shells Kart: Koopa Dasher ************************************************************************ Paratroopa Class: Light Default Partner: Koopa Special Item: Triple Green Shells/Triple Red Shells Kart: Para Wing ************************************************************************ Baby Mario Class: Light Default Partner: Baby Luigi Special Item: Chain Chomp Kart: Goo-Goo Buggy ************************************************************************ Baby Luigi Class: Light Default Partner: Baby Mario Special Item: Chain Chomp Kart: Rattle Buggy ************************************************************************ Toad Class: Light Default Partner: Toadette Special Item: Super Mushroom Kart: Toad Kart ************************************************************************ Toadette Class: Light Default Partner: Toad Special Item: Super Mushroom Kart: Toadette Kart ************************************************************************ Petey Piranha Class: Heavy Default Partner: King Boo Special Item: All Special Items Kart: Piranha Pipes ************************************************************************ King Boo Class: Heavy Default Partner: Petey Piranha Special Item: All Special Items Kart: Boo Pipes ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 3.3: Karts Ratings -: Poor --: Fair ---: Good ----: Very Good -----: Excellent Use the Ratings key for sections 3.3.3 and 3.3.4. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 3.3.1: Character Combinations Driver Thrower Kart Size Light Weight Light Weight Light Kart Medium Weight Light Weight Medium Kart Light Weight Medium Weight Medium Kart Medium Weight Medium Weight Medium Kart Heavy Weight Light Weight Heavy Kart Light Weight Heavy Weight Heavy Kart Heavy Weight Medium Weight Heavy Kart Medium Weight Heavy Weight Heavy Kart Heavy Weight Heavy Weight Heavy Kart ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 3.3.2: Kart Advantages/Disadvantages ************************************************************************ Advantages Light Karts Medium Karts Heavy Karts Great Acceleration Average speed/accel. When it explodes, anyone caught in the explosion will flip and lose their items. Item doesn't appear in Battle Mode. ************************************************************************ Banana F+B This item can cause karts to spin out if they run over it. ************************************************************************ Mushroom This item gives you a temporary boost. It can be used to go over rough terrain and you can steal items from your opponents if you run into them. ************************************************************************ Triple Mushrooms You can get 3 boosts from these mushrooms. If you spin out or flip, your mushrooms will be reduced to 1. ************************************************************************ Fake Item F+B This item can fool anyone if placed on the right spot. Karts will flip if they run into one. ************************************************************************ Star This item makes you temporarily imvincible. Your kart will reach its maximum speed and karts will flip and lose their items if you make contact with them. ************************************************************************ Thunderbolt This item makes everyone small. While small, the kart's speed and weight are reduced temporarily. Doesn't affect the user. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 4.2: Special Items ************************************************************************ Fireballs F+B This item allows you to throw 5 fireballs at the same time. Karts will spin out if hit by one. Luigi's fireballs are tinted green, but can still be thrown forward or backward. ************************************************************************ Heart This item protects you against almost all items. The heart's effects will wear off if you receive 2 items. ************************************************************************ Egg F+B This item acts like a Red Shell, but it'll release 3 items when it breaks. Birdo's eggs have pink spots, but have the same effects. ************************************************************************ Bowser's Shell F+B This item is like a Green Shell, but it's bigger and fiercer. Opponents will flip and lose their items if run over by it. ************************************************************************ Giant Banana F+B This item makes karts spin out if they run over it. Also, 3 regular sized bananas will appear on the road. ************************************************************************ Bob-Omb F+B Be careful when using this item. When it explodes, karts caught in the explosion will flip and lose their items. You could get caught in your own explosion if you're not careful. ************************************************************************ Triple Green Shells F+B You can throw up to 3 shells that move in a straight line and will flip anyone that runs over one. Your shells are reduced to 1 if you spin out or flip. ************************************************************************ Triple Red Shells F+B You can throw up to 3 shells that'll attack anyone in your way. Your shells are reduced to 1 if you spin out or flip. ************************************************************************ Chain Chomp The chained beast will pull you as it attacks anyone in its path. When it breaks free, it'll remain on the course for a little bit longer and then will disappear. ************************************************************************ Super Mushroom This item gives you unlimited boosts for a limited time. ======================================================================== 5: Courses View section 3.3.4 to see the ratings I put for each kart. Difficulty Ratings -........................Very Easy; Use any kart with an overall of 1-5. --............................Easy; Use any kart with an overall of 2-5. ---.........................Normal; Use any kart with an overall of 2-5. ----..........................Hard; Use any kart with an overall of 3-5. -----....................Very Hard; Use any kart with an overall of 4-5. There are 3 classes to begin with. 50cc, 100cc, and 150cc. The engine size is bigger when you choose a higher class. When you unlock Mirror Mode, you'll do a mirror version of the 150cc. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 5.1: Mushroom Cup ************************************************************************ Luigi Circuit Difficulty: - Laps: 3 This course is very easy. The only thing you must avoid is the lone Chain Chomp. The dash panels at the sides of the road aren't as effective as you think. You should instead drift around the U-turn. In 100cc, 150cc, and Mirror Mode, there are 2 shortcuts you can take. One of them is guarded by a Chain Chomp however. Each shortcut has 2 double item boxes. Also, you can run into opponent karts going the opposite direction as you. In 50cc, there are no shortcuts and there's a wall between the 2 roads to keep you from running into other karts. ************************************************************************ Peach Beach Difficulty: - Laps: 3 This course is also easy. The only enemies you must dodge are the Cataquacks (appeared in Super Mario Sunshine). They'll flip your kart over if you make contact with them. The water will slow your kart down if it gets deep and you'll be pulled over by Lakitu if you go too deep. If you have a Mushroom, you can get through the deep water. Near the end of the course, there are a few item boxes behind the fountain. You'll lose time if you try to attempt getting the item boxes however. ************************************************************************ Baby Park Difficulty: - Laps: 7 This course might look easy, but you could be in trouble when there are items scattered around. You can try to drift past the items, but beware of homing items, because they can be threatening. Also, Bowser's Shell can cause a lot of chaos on the road so beware of the item if it shows up. There are 7 laps on this course, making it easy to overlap slowpokes. ************************************************************************ Dry Dry Desert Difficulty: -- Laps: 3 This course seems easy until you encounter a twister on the road. If caught, you'll spin out and items will end up being scattered around. Avoid going into the sand, it'll slow you down. There are a few turns you must take to start the course. When you reach the sand trap, turn either left or right. If you go into the sand trap, a giant Piranha Plant will pop out and eat you. It will cost you by slowing you down and placing you behind. After the sand trap is the cactus-like enemy Pokey. You'll spin out if you hit one at high speed. Avoid them and the rest of the course will be easy. If you have a Mushroom, you can go through the sand without slowing down. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 5.2: Flower Cup ************************************************************************ Mushroom Bridge Difficulty: -- Laps: 3 The traffic on this course moves slow, so it's going to be easy to run into one at high speed. The Mushroom-like car won't cause you to spin out if you hit it, instead a Mushroom pops out. The Bomb-shaped cars will explode if you run into one and the Wiggler-shaped bus can cause you to flip and lose your items if you run into it. After the first tunnel is a shortcut that requires a Mushroom and you can go over the bridge to avoid the traffic. Just be careful not to fall off or else you'll lose speed and time. ************************************************************************ Mario Circuit Difficulty: -- Laps: 3 There are a lot of tight turns you must make in this course, so you must master drifting to succeed. After the first U-turn is a circular U-turn with a Chain Chomp. You'll slow down if you go on the grass, but you can pass the Chain Chomp through the grass if you have a Mushroom. After going through the tunnel, you'll see some Piranha Plants that'll attack you if you get too close. Once you reach a road with a lot of bumps, you'll then must dodge the Goombas. You'll spin out if you hit one, but if hit by an item, they'll release a Mushroom. Be careful of the 2 Piranha Plants near the end of the course. If hit, you'll lose speed and it'll be easy for your opponents to pass you. ************************************************************************ Daisy Cruiser Difficulty: -- Laps: 3 There are no enemies on this course, but you'll have to master difficult turns to win. When you reach the pool, be sure not to fall in or else you'll lose time and speed. When you reach the dining room, you'll have to avoid dinner tables moving left and right. You could get stuck if you're not careful. After that, there are 2 routes you can take. You'll lose speed if you enter the boiler room, but there's a double item box and a pipe you can take to escape. The other route is quicker and isn't as risky as the other. Deal with 1 more U-turn and the stairs and you're finished. ************************************************************************ Waluigi Stadium Difficulty: --- Laps: 3 This course has a lot of sharp turns and there are fire rings you must avoid. Hitting a fire ring will cause you to spin out. Also, avoid the mud, it'll slow you down unless you have a Mushroom. After passing the first batch of mud and 2 sharp turns, there are 3 sets of 3 fire ropes and 3 Piranha Plant-shaped walls coming in and out. After that, you'll have to get past a few hills, make 2 U-turns and go over a gap. If you fall at the gap, you'll have to try going over it again. Just avoid the fire ring at the gap as well. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 5.3: Star Cup ************************************************************************ Sherbet Land Difficulty: --- Laps: 3 The ice on this course can cause trouble when you're drifting. There are a batch of Shy Guys on the first batch of ice. After doing a bunch of sharp turns, you'll encounter more ice and an ice enemy named Freezie. If you hit one, you'll be frozen temporarily. The snow will slow you down unless you have a Mushroom. ************************************************************************ Mushroom City Difficulty: --- Laps: 3 The traffic is much worse here than it was on Mushroom Bridge. You'll have to be more careful around this course if you don't want to get lost. Highway access if off limits to racers, because those who enter will lose speed and time once carried back by Lakitu. After the first U-turn, you'll take 1 of 2 roads. You'll have to be more careful if cars are heading your way. Don't go into buildings or anything that says "Do Not Enter" if you don't want to lose time. When you return to the highway entry, you must avoid the gap at the right and the cars heading the opposite direction as you. The shortcut on the highway requires a Mushroom, because there's some cement that'll slow you down if you enter it. ************************************************************************ Yoshi Circuit Difficulty: -- Laps: 3 This course is shaped like Yoshi. There are numerous tight turns and the Piranha Plants have returned for an encore. There are 2 shortcuts, each requiring a Mushroom. However, the second shortcut is very risky to take (the tunnel going under the set of swirly turns), because you could end up in the water and losing time. Drifting around the tight turns is a wise decision here. ************************************************************************ DK Mountain Difficulty: ---- Laps: 3 You'll deal with a lot of challenges on this course. You'll begin by heading to the cannon. It'll take you to the volcano and to the beginning of the downhill scenario. Get around the bumps and sharp turns as you go down the mountain. When you reach 2 U-turns, beware of falling boulders. You'll lose your speed and items if you get run over by one. When taking 2 more U-turns, be careful not to hit the boulders or to fall into the hole. The bridge at the end tilts a lot, making it easy to fall. If you do fall, Lakitu will bring you to the other side of the bridge, but you must regain speed if you don't want anyone to pass you. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 5.4: Special Cup ************************************************************************ Wario Colosseum Difficulty: ---- Laps: 2 Although there are 2 laps on this course, you'll have to deal with numerous tight turns and large gaps. When you get through the first few tight turns, you'll deal with a circular U-turn inside the cage. Then, there are a set of sharp turns the require you to drift to avoid falling. When you reach the part where you can choose 1 of 3 routes, you'll have to decide where to go. The dash panel at the middle makes a quick route over the gap, but homing items could send you plummeting. The other 2 routes also take you to the other side, but they're not as fast as the middle path. Get past the last few sharp turns and a gap and this course will be finished. ************************************************************************ Dino Dino Jungle Difficulty: ---- Laps: 3 There are a lot of tight turns and objects to dodge, but overall this course isn't too hard. After the first 2 U-turns, you'll see a giant dinosaur. Avoid his feet and head to the bridge. There are a few item boxes underneath the dinosaur, but you must avoid the feet as you go under. You can take any path on the bridge, even the one with a set of dash panels, but you must be careful not to fall into the water or else you'll lose speed and time. When you enter the cave there's a set of geysers and a risky shortcut. If you have a Mushroom, you can get over the gap. The geysers will flip you over if you hit one at full force. The bridge ahead requires you to get through without hitting the dinosaur's head. You'll spin out if you run into it and you could fall off the bridge too. You just have to deal with a U-turn, a set of bumps, and 4 geysers and you'll have this course done. ************************************************************************ Bowser's Castle Difficulty: ----- Laps: 3 This course has almost anything you can think of. When you enter the castle, you'll see 2 roads, each with a set of 2 Thwomps. If a Thwomp flattens you, you'll slow down for a while until you recover. After you avoid the last 2 Thwomps, you'll enter a chamber with lava. Avoid the fireballs that pop out from the lava as you go over the gap. You'll spin out if you run into a fireball and you'll lose time and speed if you fall into the lava. After the gap, you'll deal with a circular U-turn to a room with 2 fire ropes. After dodging the fire ropes, you'll deal with a lot of sharp turns. After dealing with 1 more U-turn, you'll see a Bowser statue spitting fireballs. Dodge the fireballs as you make 1 U-turn and sharp turn. There's a shortcut that requires you to drift over to complete. Jump over 1 more gap and deal with 1 more sharp turn to complete the course. ************************************************************************ Rainbow Road Difficulty: ----- Laps: 3 This course is very hard and you must deal with numerous turns in order to win. The first U-turn is easy, but the second one is more difficult to master without falling off. If you survive, you'll go through 3 dash panels. The circular road has numerous dash panels you must run through to keep your speed at a maximum. Just be careful that you don't run into anything or fall off the road. After dealing with the circular road, you'll see a swirly road leading to a circular tunnel. When you enter the tunnel, you'll be sent up to the other side of the road. Deal with a few more dash panels, 1 gap, and 1 circular U-turn and this course is finished. At times you might see a Star pop up on this course. If you get it, your kart will be at maximum speed, even if you don't run through a dash panel. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 5.5: All Cup Tour In this cup, you'll play all 16 courses. The courses are selected randomly and the difficulty is determined by which class you play. ======================================================================== 6: Battle Mode This multiplayer mode allows you and 3 friends to take a break from racing and play 1 of the 3 different battle games. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 6.1: Battle Mode Rules Battle Mode features 3 different games. Balloon Battle, Shine Thief, and Bob-Omb Blast. For sections 6.1.1, 6.1.2, and 6.1.3, you'll read the rules for each of these games. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 6.1.1: Balloon Battle The object in Balloon Battle is to pop all 3 of your opponents' balloons. You'll be using items to try to eliminate each of your opponents. The last kart remaining is the winner. If you have 1 or 2 balloons, you can steal your opponent's balloons by doing one of these things. Run into an opponent with a Mushroom or a Star or by using a Slide Attack. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 6.1.2: Shine Thief The object in Shine Thief is to collect the Shine Sprite and drive away. Your opponents must try to hit you with items in order to get the Shine Sprite away from you. You start with 60 seconds on the timer and the timer counts down once someone gets the Shine Sprite. The timer stops when the holder of the Shine Sprite loses it. The kart that's holding the Shine Sprite at the end is the winner. You can steal your opponent's Shine Sprite by doing these things. Run into an opponent with a Mushroom or Star or by using a Slide Attack. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 6.1.3: Bob-Omb Blast The only item in Bob-Omb Blast is none other than the Bob-Omb. You must use the Bob-Ombs to send your opponents skyhigh. You'll earn 1 point for each kart caught in your explosion, but you'll lose 1 point if caught by your opponent's explosion. The first kart to earn 3 or 4 points is the winner. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 6.2: Battle Stages ************************************************************************ Cookie Land This stage has a lot a walls you can use to avoid your opponent's items. The circular stage is also a place to avoid Red Shells. Do everything you can to survive here. ************************************************************************ Block City The blocks make it easy to avoid Red Shells and various items. Item boxes are scattered everywhere you go, making it easy to get an item. This stage isn't flat at some parts, so it makes it easy for some items to damage you. ************************************************************************ Nintendo Gamecube This stage is very flat and has no walls to hide in, making it easy for Red Shells to hit you. Also, be ready to drive for your life if someone gets a Star. This stage is an easy one for those who do better on flat battlefields. ************************************************************************ Pipe Plaza There are very few walls to hide behind, but you can use the pipes here to avoid an item following you. Also, you can go to a higher level to avoid some items, but you won't be safe from the Bob-Ombs, no matter how high you are. ************************************************************************ Luigi's Mansion This 3 floored stage has a lot of places to hide and a lot of item boxes you can use for your next attack. At the third level, there's a gap that takes you back to the second level and there are many hallways at the lower level you can use to try to avoid pursuit by your opponents. ************************************************************************ Tilt-a-Kart This stage tilts a lot, so you have to do everything you can to avoid falling off. The item boxes will also move around in this stage, so you must make sure you get an item before any item boxes fall off the stage. Traps aren't very effective on this stage than they were on the other 5 battle stages. ======================================================================== 7: Secrets There are some secrets you can unlock in this game. This section will show the time you must beat in order to unlock the ghost for each course.
