Kira is a new character in the Mortal Kombat universe. At first glance she does not seem to be one of the greatest characters you could use in the game. I decided to give her a chance and she isn't that bad. She is pretty simple to learn, and when used effectively, can cause some trouble. Also, she is fun to look at. II- Where do I find Kira? Kira is not a default character. Thus, you must unlock her. To unlock her, you must play the Konquest mode, and travel to H-2 in earthrealm. The key to her koffin (SH in the Krypt) will be in a hut. The chest is time based from 1-4am (I do not think that the day of the week matters). Kira's alternate outfit is in Koffin SG in the Krypt and costs 990 sapphire koins ############################################################################### 2) Legend ############################################################################### I- Moving: Up (u) Down (d) Forward (f) Back (b) -Back-step: By tapping back twice (bb), Kira will take a bigger step back than normal. Pretty much just used to get away from the opponent (or the edge of the stage possibly). -Jumping: By pressing the control pad or joystick diagonally up and forward (uf) or up and back (ub) Kira will jump backward or forward. Jumping is not really that useful. -Side step: While your opponent is attacking, by moving upward (u) or downward (d) you will step to the side of them and be able to attack. You will do more damage than normal if they are attacking while you hit them. Side stepping is extremely useful, and you will probably use it a lot. -Crouching: By holding the pad or joystick diagonally down and forward (df) or down and back (db) Kira will crouch and be able to duck certain attacks and be able to attack low too. II- Attacks: (*Note: I will not list the specific buttons because they can be changed in the options to your preference) Attack 1 (1) Attack 2 (2) Attack 3 (3) Attack 4 (4) III- Blocking: One thing that separates Mortal Kombat (MK) from many fighting games is the fact that there is a button specifically meant for blocking. By pressing the block button (BL) by itself, Kira will block high. By pressing df+BL or db+BL Kira will block low attacks. IV- Change Styles Change Style (CS) Kira's 3 fighting styles are Xing Yi, Kempo, and Dragon Teeth (her weapon). (*Note: there are arena weapons you can pick up in some stages. The default button is the white button. When Kira picks up a weapon and has a different style. I don't really use arena weapons though so I won't include it now). V- Throwing Throw (T) Kira's throw does pretty decent damage, and it is very useful. Throwing will work on someone who is blocking, but not crouching (or crouching and blocking). VI- Combo Breaker A new feature to MK, basically, if someone catches you in a combo, by pressing f+BL, Kira will perform a breaker to prematurely end their combo (this will also works while they're juggling you in the air). Does not deal good damage (actually it basically deals nothing), but it is useful in getting yourself away from a death trap. You only get 3 in the entire fight. ############################################################################### 3) Special Moves ############################################################################### -Black Dragon Ball: b,f+4. Kira flies across the screen rolling in a ball (like Kano used to). The priority kind of sucks though because it won't go through a lot of moves. The damage this move inflicts is pretty good so if you manage to side step a projectile from a certain distance you could use it. You could incorporate this move in a combo, but I wouldn't advise it, since it reduces damage. Also, this isn't a move you want to keep doing because if it is blocked, recovery time is long, and you will get punished. -Kiss of Death: b, f+1. Kira blows a pink powder that will temporarily blind the opponent (*Note: This move does not work on Kenshi, so don't even try it). Recovery time is decent, and you get a free move/combo/throw if it lands, however, damage you inflict after is toned down. This can also be used while the opponent is in the air (like after pop up moves, or if they jump). -Night Shade: d,f+3. Kira crouches down and shoots a pink projectile at the opponent. Even though you'd think, the opponent does not have to block low to stop this, any block will do. Recovery time is decent too. However, Kira ducks under most attacks and high projectiles when she does this move. For example, if Kira does a Night Shade at the same time Nightwolf shoots an arrow, Kira won't get it, but Nightwolf will. ############################################################################### 4) Move List and Combo's ############################################################################### - Certain attacks will knock your opponent into the air. When this happens they are fair game to hit with other attacks or even the same one. Also, I will make notes to talk about certain moves, but that doesn't mean others are not good (or bad), but those just particularly stand out for a reason. I- Xing Yi: Straight Punch: 1 Power Fist: b+1 Low Palm Strike: d+1 Chop Strike: 2 Eagle Strike: d+2 *Good follow up while opponent is in the air. Steel Finger: f+2 *Also good when opponent is in the air to create distance. Front Snap Kick: 3 Low Foot Strike: d+3 *Pretty good low attack. Rising Knee: 4 *Hits crouching opponents. Hopping Back Kick: b+4 Toe Strike: d+4 Lifting High Kick: u+4 *Decent, knocks opponent in the air (or juggles). Red Zone: 4,2 Casualty: 4,3 Seek and Destroy: 1,1,4,3 *Use if opponent is blocking, decent recovery time. Twilight: 1,1,2 *Knocks opponent into the air. Dangerous: 1,1,4 Fiery Hands: 1,1, u+4 Wrath of Kira: 1,1, b+4 Rebel Chick: 2, b+1 Suffering: 1,1,2, b+1 Assault and Battery: 1,1,4,2 *Fourth hit misses a lot, don't use this combo. Rebel Queen: 1,1,4,CS *Good because it changes styles, and knock opponent up. II- Kenpo Throat Chop: 1 Spinning Elbow: b+1 Leaping Power Punch: u+1 *Interesting move, and powerful. Low Knife Strike: d+1 Shoulder Chop: 2 *Knocks opponent up. Upwards Uppercut: u+2 *Quick move, knocks opponent up. Double Handed Push: b+2 Uppercut: d+2 *Good follow up while opponent is in the air. Reverse Side Kick: 3 Knee: f+3 *Hits crouching opponent and knocks them in the air. Low Kick: d+3 Axe Kick: 4 *Good move, pretty powerful, and knocks opponent in the air. Scorpions Tail: b+4 Creeping Kick: d+4 Black Tiger: 1,1 Leopard Paws: 1,3 Bad Girl: 1,3,3 Tiger Strikes 1,1, u+1 Black Dragon Special: 1,1,4 *Knocks opponent in the air. Red Beauty: 1,1,2 *Knocks opponent in the air. Leopard Legs: 3,3 Into the Nite: 1,1,CS, b+2 *Pretty Good. III- Dragon Teeth Forward Chest Slashes: 1 Downward Circling Sword: b+1 Low Upward Knife: d+1 Rising Dragon Teeth: 2 Upward Circling Teeth: b+2 Uppercut: d+2 *Knocks opponent in the air. Dragon Push: f+3 Tippy Toe Stab: u+3 *Hits in the eye, but I don't think you get a free hit. Low Tippy Kick: d+3 Front Side Kick: 4 Spinning Dragon Kick: b+4 Low Spin Kick: d+4 Dragon Tooth: 1,3 Sharp Girl: 1, f+3 Snap Dragon Kicks: 4,4 Black Dragon Tail: 4,4,4 Hi-Octane: b+1, b+2 ############################################################################### 5) Tips and Strategies ############################################################################### For combo's, Kira's most powerful ones involve knocking the opponent into the air. When the opponent is in the air, this (^) will indicate they are in the air. Kenpo: u+1 ^ u+1 *This alone does around 27% if you just hit them normally. Also: u+1 ^ u+1 ^ 1,1,CS, b+2 *This combo does around 40-42% damage. The timing on the u+1 is a bit tricky, so you could substitute attack 4 with u+1. Remember too that if you perform these combo's while the opponent is blinded from the Kiss of Death, they will not do as much damage. - Side stepping is also a very important part of Kira's game. Make sure you get pretty good at it, and practice. - Turtlers: You are bound to face turtlers, so if someone just keeps blocking high you can always throw them or perform the low hitting attacks (although I would think throwing is better since Kira does not have any low hitting combos to do decent damage). Against someone who is blocking low, I have mentioned in the moves list that a couple attacks are able to hit the low blockers. The best would be attack f+3 in Kenpo since it knocks them into the air. - Vs. Onaga: Onaga is super cheap, and the best way I can think of beating him is with combo b+1, b+2 with the Dragon Teeth. It puts a little distance between you so that you have a little head start backwards if he tries to grab you. Just attack at the right time, and use the Komidogu's and you should be fine. -Try to save your combo breakers for situations where you are near the edge of the stage. I hate dying by the traps in the stage. However, if you are in a stage where there is no trap, just use them whenever you please. -[From Gamefaqs user HoMeLeSsBoB] Another powerful Kira combo in Kenpo is: f+3 ^ 2 ^ 1,1,CS, b+2. This combo is able to hit croucheing opponents and is good at knocking opponents off of stage death traps. When I was practicing with it I did around 40% damage, but HoMeLeSsBoB says that he was doing around 43%. In any case, this combo is still pretty powerful. -Combo's from Mew2King: These are all good and quite powerful. ---47% - 7 hits - (Kempo) - Forward 3, Forward 3, 1, 1, CS, Back 2 ---45% - 6 hits - (Kempo) - Forward 3, 1, 1, CS, Back 2 ---44% - 7 hits - (Kempo) - Up 4, Forward 3, 1, 1, CS, Back 2 ---37% - 7 hits - (Kempo) - 2, Forward 3, 1, 1, CS, Back 2 ############################################################################### 6) Fatalities ############################################################################### - When you win the match, you get to perform a Fatality, which kills your opponent. When it says Finish Him/Her just punch it in. Kira's fatalities are not that great though. Fatality: u,f,d,b+3 (distance: About a jump away). This is a good fatality because it is very fast to perform (especially on people who enter the Hara Kiri at light speed). Just do a circle motion on the pad or joystick starting from up, and when you get to back, press attack 3. Fatality: b,f,f,b+4 (Distance: Far) Hara Kiri (you do this to kill yourself if you happen to lose) f,b,u,b+3 ############################################################################### 7) Misc. ############################################################################### -Well, that's it for now. Have fun with Kira, and remember to experiment. I still have lots of things to find out about Kira, so I will try to stay updated, and if anyone else finds out something new or useful (or if I simply left something out) you can email me: tetsusaiga002000@yahoo.com.
